The photos submitted will help build the IAHAIO photo library, a new resource for IAHAIO communication online and off. Please join in to create a jointly crafted portrait of HAI all around the world. IAHAIO is dedicated to advancing the understanding and appreciation of Human-Animal Interaction (HAI) and to providing its members with a forum for networking, collaboration, and dissemination of developments in the field.

2 OFFICIAL RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS IAHAO DIGITAL PHOTO CONTEST 2017 I. SPONSORSHIP AND PARTICIPATION The IAHAIO Digital Photo Contest (Photo Contest) is sponsored by the International Association of Human- Animal Interaction Organizations (IAHAIO, By entering the Photo Contest, all eligible participants (Participants) accept the official rules and instructions outlined herein. Participants who fail to abide by these rules will be disqualified. II. ELIGIBILITY 1. The Contest is open to anyone affiliated with a IAHAIO member organization (member organization employees, volunteers, board members, etc.) excluding Contest organizers and judges. 2. Participants may submit up to 3 photos (color or black & white). 3. Individual photo files must not exceed 3MB. 4. All photographs must be submitted in.jpg format. 5. Participants declare that they are over 18 years old with full legal capacity to take part in this Contest. 6. Participants declare that the photos they are submitting are fully owned, original works that do not violate any third party s proprietary or intellectual property rights. Participants further declare that they have obtained any necessary releases from the individuals depicted in the photos. 7. By entering the Photo Contest, Participants affirm having reviewed, accepted, and agreed to all of the Official Rules and Instructions. 8. All Participants agree to sign and submit in pdf format the attached Participant Agreement. III. ENTRY DEADLINE The deadline for submitting entries to the Photo Contest is Monday, May 15, 2017, 11:59 p.m. (23.59) PDT (Pacific Daylight Time). IV. WHAT TO ENTER All photos entered in the contest should illustrate human-animal interaction (HAI) and are required to feature the following three parties: The person or persons for whom the activity is being conducted The activity leader The animal(s) involved Photos may portray any type of HAI activity geared toward any type of person (elderly, handicapped, ASD, prisoners, children, etc.) and involving any type of pet or domesticated animal (dogs, horses, donkeys, farm animals, etc.).

3 Photos must not violate or infringe upon another person s rights, including but not limited to copyrights. They must not contain any objectionable, inappropriate, slanderous, defamatory, or illegal content. Any photo that fails to comply with these requirements will be disqualified. The Photo Contest organizer may, in its sole discretion and without notifying the Participant disqualify any incomplete, illegible, plagiarized, or inappropriately created photo. V. ENTRY SUBMISSIONS Participants must send their entry or entries as photo files in.jpg format with the signed Participant Agreement form in PDF format (page 4 of this document) by to: > admin@iahaio.org > Subject: IAHAIO Photo Contest name of member organization In the body of the , please indicate the following for each photo submitted: Title Date taken and location A brief yet detailed caption (maximum 2 lines) Your first and last name Name of the IAHAIO member organization affiliated with Mailing address, address, and phone number VI. JUDGING Photos will be judged according to their technical and artistic qualities by a judging panel composed of a professional photographer, members of the IAHAIO Photo Contest committee, and guest judges. VII. PRIZES All winning photos will be displayed on the IAHAIO website. 1st prize: 500 dollars and photo display on the IAHAIO website. 2nd and 3rd prizes: 250 dollars and photo display on the IAHAIO website. Honorable mentions: display on the IAHAIO website VIII. PHOTO USE The IAHAIO reserves the right to use and/or publish any photos submitted by Photo Contest Participants as needed (website, social media, communiqués, brochures or other printed materials, etc.) and free of charge. IX. ANNOUNCEMENT OF PHOTO CONTEST PRIZE WINNERS All prize winners will be notified by by mid-june, Prize winners will also be announced on the IAHAIO website and Facebook page and at the announced at the IAHAIO-ISAZ Conference at the University of California at Davis, June 25, X. PRIZE ATTRIBUTION

4 XI. DISQUALIFICATION The IAHAIO Photo Contest Committee reserves in its sole discretion the right to eliminate any sexually explicit, pornographic, or in any way offensive, discriminatory, or legally unacceptable photo. Participants may not contest any decision made by the Photo Contest organizers. XII. RESPONSIBILITY Photo Contest organizers may in no way be held responsible for any problems that arise during the Photo Contest, be they a result of human error, IT difficulties, or anything else. In the case of extraordinary or unavoidable circumstances, the IAHAIO reserves the right to modify the present Official Rules and Instructions and to postpone or cancel the Photo Contest. The IAHAIO may in no way be held responsible for changes made in these circumstances. XI. OBLIGATIONS By entering this Photo Contest, all Participants agree to the Official Rules and Instructions. Failure to comply with any of these rules will lead to immediate disqualification from the Photo Contest. Any objections to the Official Rules and Instructions will be examined by the organizers and responded to in compliance with the spirit in which the Photo Contest was designed.
