2 Urban Art Contest 2018 ed.2 Faenza + Palermo completion of a mural in the cities of Faenza and Palermo, Italy C O M P E T I T I O N R U L E S 1) Competition Organizers and Patronage The Cultural Association Distretto A Faenza Art District, in collaboration with Cultural Association Punta Comune, and with the sponsorship of the Cities of Faenza (RA) and Palermo, is organizing a Mural Competition for the completion of two separate mural artworks. This Competition is part of the activities organized by Distretto A Faenza Art District aimed at promoting quality works of Street Art, and increasing the value of specific urban areas in the historic centre of Faenza and the suburbs of Palermo. All artists may participate by submitting an original mural design for the requalification of specific urban buildings in both cities: a. Building on Via G.B. Mittarelli n.34 in Faenza (RA): primary façade b. Housing complex between Via G. Bennici and Via M. Adorno in Palermo: blank wall facing Via M. Marine NB: see attached fact sheets for description details. 2) Competition Aims The scope of this competition is to complete a mural on each of the two building façades in article 1) on private property (building A fact sheet 1) and on City property (building B - fact sheet 2). Please note that proposals for the two walls may be freely interpreted by the artist/s as a single opera divided into two parts or two separate works based on a theme, of the artist s discretion, which creates a connection between the two cities and spaces. Attached are photographs with detailed views of the areas and building façades where the winning artist/s will paint the murals, allowing each artist to design their work of art specifically for the contexts of this competition. The mural design for Faenza, as with previous editions of the competition and with specific approval by the Scientific Committee, may be contextualized in the Museo all'aperto di opere d'arte contemporanea (Open-Air Museum of Contemporary Art). 3) Entry Conditions The competition is OPEN to all people; there are no limits on age, professional qualifications or educational levels attained. There is no entry fee; all artists must submit a completed entry form and a draft miniature of the intended mural. The miniature must effectively illustrate to the Jury the mural the artist intends to create.

3 Design drafts must measure 50 cm x 70 cm and be submitted on canvas board or digital printed on. However, different support are also permitted at the discretion of the artist. Only one entry allowed by each artist (or team of artists). Proposed design must be unpublished and have never been exhibited or on display. Groups may participate. The artists declare the artwork submitted is an original work and does not infringe the copyright, or other intellectual property rights of any other person. All expenses incurred when creating the mural are the artist s responsibility. The technical sponsor will provide non-monetary support, given that Distretto A is a non-profit organization, which finances all activities through donations, self-financing, and grants. Please note that the competition is not a profit making activity and is organized to promote quality artistic endeavours in urban areas and as a way to improve and requalify urban spaces in the historic centre of Faenza and the suburban area of Palermo. 4) Entry Terms Artists are allowed full stylistic freedom on mural design submissions, with no restrictions on theme as long as it is in good taste and the measurements are appropriate for the intended façade (shown in attachments). The proposed design should be harmonious with its urban context. 5) Submission Deadline Mural design miniatures may be submitted by mail, in person, or by currier and must be received by no later than pm (noon) on 28 February Please make sure there are no identifying marks on your miniature so it is anonymous. The miniature must be completely sealed to cover all closures in the package and contain the following description: Contiene bozzetto per il concorso - Urban ART Contest 2018 ed.2. Submissions that do not comply with the requirements stated in this article or that arrive after the deadline will not be considered. Emiliani Faenza (RA) Italia The application packet must include the ANONYMOUS AND SEALED package containing the miniature of your intended mural and a completely blank, sealed envelope containing, the following: - completed and signed entry form - photocopy of an official ID card or passport (only for the team representative if submitted by an artist team)

4 - photocopy/photo of the artwork (suggested but not obligatory) The judging for this competition is rigorously anonymous so the package, the mural design miniature and the envelope must not contain any identifying marks (signature, name, etc) pertaining to the artist. All artists who violate the requirement of anonymity, in any shape or form, will be excluded from the competition. 6) Completion Timeline and panel of Judges Within 30 days of the submission deadline, the Judges will meet to choose the competition winner. The winning murals must be completed accordingly: a) Faenza: no later than the artwork will be presented during the event Cena Itinerante XI edizione / b) Palermo: no later than the artwork will be presented during the Festa della Musica 2018 at the event giornata dei 1000 Giovani curated by MEI-Faenza during Palermo Italian Capital of Culture / Manifesta 12 Biennale of Contemporary Art. The panel of Judges will be composed of 9 members representing: Distretto A Faenza Art District, Punta Comune, the Cities of Faenza and Palermo with additional Judges selected from the important figures in culture and the arts. The Judges will choose the winning mural design and those deserving an honourable mention. The Judges decisions are final and cannot be disputed. 7) Award A cash prize of 3, will be awarded to the competition winner who will paint two murals corresponding to the designs submitted and the description provided on the entry form. The competition winner will be notified by phone or . Distretto A is not liable for any expenses incurred to complete the mural, but ladders, materials and other supplies will be provided to create the artwork, according to a timetable that will be agreed upon beforehand. The competition organizers will provide accommodation free of charge at designated venues that can house the artists in the local area. 8) Property Rights of Mural Miniatures and Responsibility The mural miniatures submitted to the competition organizers will be secured on the premises of the Association Distretto A until a winner is announced, at which point they will become the property of Distretto A. The organizers will exercise due diligence in securing the mural design miniatures submitted and will not assume any responsibility for eventual damage, breakage or theft. 9) Further Information

5 Requests for clarification or further information about the competition or procedures may be made by phone: (Faenza), (Palermo) or by 10) Privacy Policy All personal information gathered, and stored electronically, during the procedures of this competition will be used exclusively for the purpose of carrying out the competition, in accordance with all laws. 11) Applicant Declaration and Obligation Decisions made by the panel of Judges are final and no correspondence will be entered into. By submitting an entry to this competition, the artist agrees to accept all entry terms and conditions and specifically the timeline for mural completion. Artists are responsible for all expenses incurred to reach the destinations. 12) Intellectual Property of Project Design The intellectual property rights and copyright of the mural proposals belong to the applicant. The competition organizers and sponsors retain the right to use entry proposals at their discretion, in accordance with laws and Author s rights. The organizers and sponsors reserve the right to use, at their own discretion, the outcomes of the competition (miniatures, completed mural, images, etc.) for publicity or to promote the event at exhibits, seminars, in publications or by any means necessary to broadcast the results of the competition, without interference from the artists. The organizers and sponsors will publicise the proposed artworks to guarantee maximum exposure possible for the artists.
