This is a good subject and an interesting composition but sadly the whole 1 A 7559 Golden Growth picture is out of focus. If taken hand held you need to keep an eye on your shutter speed. These type of shoots are best taken on a tripod and if you did that then watch your focusing. 2 A 4518 In Flight 3 A 7651 Lip Licking 4 A 3139 Grass Tree 5 A 4254 Sapphire Blue 6 A 7849 Swallow Large Colour Open 7 A 4352 Phalaenopsis Orchid 8 A 5344 Sun Up South Crowdy This image catches the eye. The Heron is sharp and the whites well controlled and the background nicely blurred I would suggest cropping just at the top of the Oyster Catcher's heads as they are unnecessary to the image. This is a lovely image - the eyes are sharp, they have catch lights, the fur is well-defined and there's just a touch of action with that curly pink tongue - well caught. My only criticism would be that the background appears to be over blurred and there is a slight glow around the fox. Great shot of the Aussie bush - well composed, sharp and invites a second look. Perhaps a tiny bit more exposure and a very subtle vignette would just make the image pop. Can be tricky on what looks like an overcast day. You have done well to capture this stunning bird and catch the eye contact. Not sure what your depth of field is but the top half of the bird is sharp and the bottom half, particularly the legs is soft. Also a pity that the lovely sweep of the tail is lost. Delightful image of this swallow - tack sharp throughout, catch light in the eye and the tail made it in the frame. I feel the branch on the right is distracting and its lightness draws the eye away from the bird although cropping it out takes off the end of the tail. I would like to see more space above the bird's head and the shadows on it's head just lightened a tad. What an amazing plant - there's plenty of detail in the centre of the plant but the framing troubles me. I'd like to suggest that you try a square format, lightened the centre a little and slightly darken the surrounding petals with a soft vignette. That would draw attention to that lovely detail. Great location, good timing, lovely composition. The rocks and the water channel lead the eye into the image and up to the figure on the ledge. My preference would be for either a high shutter speed to catch the wave action in the foreground (a bit tricky in low light at sunrise) or even better a slow shutter speed of around 1 second to turn that water into silky flow. Experiment next time with various speeds. Page 1 of 7

Large Colour Open Wow! Impressed with how you have controlled the light - so easy to blow 9 A 8950 Island Sunset everything out with these type of shots. Well composed, sharp and enough detail to make it interesting. This a beautifully captured image and I can feel the concentration. Sharp 10 A 2048 Concentration where it needs to be whilst still conveying the softness of a young child. You held the colours well and I love the cardboard box as a setting. Group B 1 B 1327 Saltwater Beach 2 B 3450 Windsor Mall 3 B 1322 Touk Tout 4 B 2346 Bank By Night Terrific -excellent composition, good exposure, creative use of shutter speed and just enough interest at the ocean's horizon. If you have the software the sky could be a bit more dramatic - a little darker on the right side and a touch of clarity. Lightroom's graduated neutral density filter works wonders to bring out the best in a sky. A nicely handled night shot - great starburst and reflections on the pavement. I'd like to suggest trying a portrait format and cut off about a third from the left hand side as the light in the top left corner is very distracting from the lovely composition on the right. Could also take a tad off the bottom This image is a little confusing to me. The background has the light but the vehicle in the foreground seems to be meant to be the subject but is quite dark, especially the front half. It's tricky to get the exposure right when the background is lighter than the foreground so you really need to use some fill flash (flash on low power) or a touch of light painting. Must say everything is sharp. With a little work this could be a very good image. A bit of a crop on the right to remove the Woolworths sign and again on the left to just before the light on the tree. You will probably end up with a portrait format but the long lines of the light pole, the door and the windows lend itself to that. Often it's worth varying your format when you are out shooting - move from landscape to portrait and see what works best. If you do any cloning then also take out the green light flare in the foreground. Just one more thing - the image has some perspective distortion and depending on your software that can be corrected. Page 2 of 7

1 A 9026 Reading By The Lamp An interesting image with a different point of view. There's some story telling here. Well composed and sharp. You may have been a little heavy with the noise reductionbut that doesn't take away from the overall image. 2 A 2312 Night Walking Cuba 3 A 1116 Night Shift 4 A 4243 Moulin Rouge 5 A 9748 Harbour Lights 6 A 3141 Evening Reflections 7 A 6748 Night Lights 8 A 9750 Pool Cafe Large Colour Set Subject Great shot - not easy to catch the action without blur. I don't doubt your ISO was quite high so again the noise reduction is a lttle heavy. (forgive me if that is not the case). The background and glass arch is beautifully captured. Wonderful image of a glider -certainly a creature of the the night and not an easy subject. It is a fraction soft but overall, good work. Lovely bright image, sharp, well-exposed.not sure where this was printed but there is very definite banding in the image A good attempt at a night image but everything is soft and the moonlight is over exposed. Next time you are at this spot try tightening the composition and ensure the focus locks on an interesting feature. Consider manually focusing. Focus at night is quite tricky. Such a serene image and well captured. It is a bit light for a night photography category but a long exposure just after sunset or before sunrise can appear quite pale.i like it better upside down as there is a darker colour in the water which is more usual for reflections. There is some banding in the printing so if it's commercial have a chat with the printer and if it's yours clean those print heads. I really like this image - everything about it says "night". Its sharp and well exposed. At the risk of sounding like a "cropaholic" you could crop ot a third from the left. There is a big black blob. The story is in the right hand side with the moon, the reflection in the clouds and on the ocean and even in the estuary. See what you think. What a great place to have a café. Unfortunately nothing really appears to be in focus and the noise is also softening the image. Again there is banding in the printing. Group B 1 B 3455 The Campfire One of the only attempts at a Milky Way shot and you have done quite well. There's a lot of interest in the foreground and plenty of detail in the sky. If anything I would suggest dropping the exposure just a little to tone down the campfire and darken the sky. Page 3 of 7

Large Colour Set Subject This also a good shot - there's a suggestion of movement yet no blur. Fills the 2 B 5639 Ferris Wheel - Spun Gold frame beautifully. 3 B 9877 Cracker Night I can see what the photographer was hoping to achieve but sadly the focus has been lost and the image is blurred. It's very difficult to get good fireworks shots without a tripod. Practice whenever you can and it will come good. 4 B 8942 Lightning Over The Manning 5 B 2351 Hanoi 6 B 7841 The Sydney Icons At Night Lightning is always a challenge and I'm pleased to see this challenge met.the sky looks great and the reflections in the river are perfect but there is that big black blob. I think some cropping is needed to improve the composition. You are going to hate me but I'd crop from the bottom up to the bright refections in the river and from the left almost to the multiple lightning forks. At the risk of being really annoying I'd tone down that purple a tad. At first glace this image is quite striking - love the couple in the rain with the blurred traffic behind. BUT why is the face between their heads and in the queue behind them quite sharp? Also perhaps crop a little in from the right to remove the tail of the scooter. Advance Australia Fair - it says it all! Its well focused, well lit and eye catching. Just crop a little from the bottom, especially the dark section. This is a panorama so it needs to be in a pano format. Page 4 of 7

Striking image, well focused, shadow line leads the eye into the frame.tones 1 A 6445 Lean On Me well handled although the blacks are a little blocked in the underside of the rock. 2 A 3152 Bad Hair Day Good portrait of an Emu. The sharpest focus has hit the lower part of the neck. This can happen when we focus and recompose, especially when shooting with a shallow depth of field. Also the eye would look better if it was open. 3 A 3250 Roster Tail Nice action shot - well caught ot the right moment.good focus, There is a greenish cast to the print and perhaps there is some heavy cropping. 4 A 7546 Two Of A Kind A very nice street scene and the monochrome tones handled well.good depth of field, 5 A 8649 Abandoned Outpost This image has great potential - it's gritty and you wonder about it's story. I'd like to see a different composition-more room on the right and a little less foreground. Also the blacks need to be opened up. If you use Lightroom the shadows slider would deal with this. 6 A 9761 Whale Encounter That is a very close encounter and gives an idea of their size. The blurry heads are a distraction so I'd crop them out. The whale is also soft but with a little selective sharpening you could just give him/her a lift. Think I've seen that tattered dorsal fin 7 A 2146 Laelia Orchid 8 A 4241 Dune Mono Open 9 A 6550 Whiskers 10 A 8660 Ant In The Rain This is a beautiful image of the orchid. Incredible focus and a lovely composition, It would also suit a square format. This is another monochrome that has a greenish hue but that may be a result of the printing process. Another image with good potential. The foreground is well captured and there is a Z of grasses leading you through the image. It's a great sky but it's a smidgen soft. I don't know what software you might have but Lightroom's graduated density slider with a touch of clarity, dehaze and a drop in exposure would have this image jumping off the page. Eye contact, sharpness and great depth of field. Whether it be this seal, your cat, puppy or bird this is what is wanted in animal portrait photography. (and people for that matter). The tones of grey and a touch of black are wonderful, I did see the ant before I read the title. Well focused, good lighting and love those drops of water and streaks of rain. Page 5 of 7

Mono Open What a great version of the bridge. The framing provides interest and it's not 11 A 1122 Taree Landscape just another bridge photo. Good focus, terrific composition and well handled monochrome. 12 A 2037 Useful Tree An interesting example of ingenuity in years gone by. It has been captured in very contrasty light which detracts from the quality of the image. Imagine a misty morning, the clutter hidden in the haze - but I digress - we often have to work with what we have and this image tells a story. Page 6 of 7

Mono Set Subject 1 A 8924 Ferris Wheel This one makes my eyes spin - sharp, fills the frame, good night shot. 2 A 1288 River Walk I love the composition but alas the image is quite soft. Did you use a tripod? Sometimes at night even a tripod doesn't help unless you use 2 second delay, a remote or mirror lockup. 3 A 7823 The Ship A magnificent ship and a dynamic composition but you know what I am going to say - the whites are blown out. Not sure if you are shooting RAW or JPG but if RAW you should be able to recover the detail. Page 7 of 7
