1 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS LABAN THEATRE The Bonnie Bird theatre is intended to provide a first class environment for an audience of 296 to watch contemporary dance performed by both student and visiting companies. The theatre is used for licensed public performances. The seating, on a single raked tier gives a good view of a 10m playing area on the stage, which may occasionally be increased to an 11m square. Because of the specialised nature of the theatre, there is no trap room or opening in the stage floor, and there is no orchestra pit. 4 The Generic Rig. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the high turnover of both in-house and visiting company work, the theatre is set with a generic rig; inclusive of light, AV, sound and stage dressing. This rig is designed specifically for dance and has proved suitable for most basic requirements. We would ask that where possible visiting companies add to, rather than moving or changing equipment that is a part of this generic rig. Anything that is changed without prior arrangement with Trinity Laban Production Department MUST BE REINSTATED AS A PART OF THE VISITING COMPANY GET OUT. Where necessary the theatre may be entirely re - rigged to meet visiting company requirements. Although it should be made clear that this requires an extensive get in and refit; which could only happen when specified in advance, and as part of the contractual agreement. Floor Usually laid: Spare: Canadian strip maple wood sprung dance floor Black Harlequin dance floor covering whole stage/ wings Grey Harlequin dance floor 13m wide x 14m deep The floor is intended foremost as a bare foot dance surface, as such it is NOT possible to screw or fix anything into the floor. No structures or substances that may cause damage or markings will be allowed. Black soled shoes that would leave scuff marks are not allowed on the grey floor. White soled shoes especially Converse that will leave marks are not allowed on either floor. 5 Single Purchase Counterweight Flying System The stage area is not fire separated from the auditorium and there is no safety curtain. There is an overall steel grid above the stage, but its height does not permit full flying out of view. Instead a single purchase counterweight system, located stage right, provides suspension. There are two areas over the stage where the grid is raised. These allow for 4 bars downstage and 6 bars two thirds of the way upstage rigged with house curtain and backcloths to be raised out of view with the careful use of masking borders. Any scenery onstage or stored backstage must be constructed only from materials accepted by the London Fire Brigade for use on open stages: Non combustible/inherently non flammable materials Timber hardboard or plywood rendered flame resistant by process of impregnation Durably flame proof fabrics, self-extinguishing plastics, materials having flame resistance The Theatres maintained emergency lighting must remain on at all times Electrical Equipment: Pyrotechnics: Any Electrical equipment brought into the theatre must comply with current regulations issued by the Institute of Electrical Engineers. Please be prepared to provide PAT certificates on request. Application with risk assessment and an outline of use must be made to Trinity Laban s Head of Production at least 1 month prior to your first performance
