1 Artistic Appearances Representational - Abstract - Nonrepresentational Expressionistic Cultural Styles, Iconography and Appropriation
2 Four paintings of figures by Pablo Picasso. These are good examples in demonstrating his development. Picasso has been one of the most influential artists of the 20 th Century.
3 A representational image in art can be defined in two different ways. First, is a realistic or naturalist appearance. Which painting represents the most realistic or natural look to your eye?. Secondly, a representational image can also have a stylized appearance to it. Stylized can have slight alterations or modifications. An artist can sometimes be recognized for their style. Does one of these images demonstrate a stylized appearance? What has been modified?
4 Abstraction, as another form of an artistic appearance, modifies, simplifies, distorts or fragments objects, yet still provides an essence of the object. Simple shapes or geometric forms can assist in abstracting an object, figure or landscape. Abstraction is still something in the natural world. Abstraction aims to slow the eye and mind down for a moment. Makes a viewer look and look again. You might think it is one thing and it could be something else.
