2 Abbreviations: K2tog- knit 2 stitches together pma-place marker (color A) pmb-place marker (color B) sm-slip marker yo- yarn over kfb-knit in front and back of the stitch (makes an increase of one) twisted rib-*knit 1 in back, purl 1* across section Jasmine is a topdown, seamless sweater with a simple lacy collar and a sweet lacy sleeve inset. There are little ribbed gathers in the back (optional) to add some shaping and a foldover hem for a crisp finish! After the initial placing of the markers, you ll be working Jasmine by repeating two rounds: an increase round, and a round where all the stitches are just knit. It is in the increase round where you ll work the lacy inset for the sleeves. There are a couple of set-up rounds, to make it easier to place markers (colors A and B). Begin with size 8 needles, cast on 82 (88, 94, 100) stitches. Place marker and join to knit in the round (being careful not to twist stitches). Knit the first round, placing markers as follows: Knit 16 (17, 18, 19) right back -place marker A (pma) Knit 9 (9, 11, 11) right sleeve-pma Knit 32 (36, 36, 40) front-pma Knit 9 (9, 11, 11)-pmA Knit 16 (17, 18, 19) place beginning of round marker On the next round you will make 8 increases (one before and after each marker A ) and place 4 additional markers (marker B) to mark the center 7 sleeve stitches: Work one increase round, while placing markers for sleeve lace as follows: *Knit to one stitch before the marker, kfb, slip marker, kfb. 3 Now, all the markers are in place. Knit one round. Round 1: *knit to one stitch before the marker A, kfb, sm, kfb* repeat for the entire round: AT THE SAME TIME: work the lace inset in the sleeve, beginning with round 1 (just slipping markers B, as they are only there to remind you to work the lace pattern) Lace inset for sleeve: Work the lace insert as follows. *note that rows 1 and 3 occur on the increase rounds, and that rows 2 and 4 are all knit rounds * round 1: slip marker, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, knit 1, slip marker round 2: (no increases, here, just knit the whole round) round 3: slip marker, knit 1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, to, k2tog, yo, slip marker round 4: (no increase, just knit the whole round) Round 2: Knit all stitches Repeat rounds 1 and 2 for a total of 19 (22, 24, 26) times (38, 44, 48, 52 ) rounds Remove the sleeve stitches as follows: Knit to marker A, remove marker, using darning needle and waste yarn, slide the sleeve stitches to waste yarn. (make a note of which lace repeat you were on, so when you pick up the stitches to finish the sleeve, you ll know where to begin) Cast on 3 (3, 4, 4) stitches, replace marker, cast on 3 (3, 4, 4) more stitches. Knit across the back stitches, repeat for other sleeve and underarm, being sure to keep a marker at each underarm. Knit all rounds until piece measures 8 (9, 10, 10) inches from underarm or desired length to begin the ribby shaping in the back. (Ribby shaping should center along the small of your back). Mark the center 40 (40, 52, 52) stitches using the side markers as your guide; ie: total stitches in back = A A minus 40 (40, 52, 52) = B B divided by 2 = C [the number of stitches to knit before and after you place your ribby markers ] Copyright 2010 c2knits.com Jasmine Ver 1.0 Page 2 of 4

4 Work the first round of ribby stitches as follows: Beginning at side marker, knit C, place marker *knit 2, k2tog* across 40 (40, 52, 52) stitches, place marker. On the following rounds, work the ribby stitches in twisted rib (see abbreviations) for 2 On the last round, when you get to the ribbed section, *knit 2, kfb* across section, (bringing the stitch count back to the original number, you can remove the markers now. *option* for additional increases around the hip area, you could choose to *K1, kfb* thru the ribby section, creating additional stitches around the bottom. Continue knitting all rounds for 4 (4.5, 5, 5) inches or desired length. Purl one round (this will be the folding round for the hem. Knit for one more inch, then bind off loosely with a #9 needle. Using darning needle and yarn, hem loosely. Collar: With wrong side facing and # 6 needle, pick up 82 (88, 94, 100) stitches. Place marker. Knit one round. Work lace pattern for 1 as follows: round 1: *k2tog, yo* entire round round 2: knit all stitches repeat rounds 1 and 2 for lace pattern Change to #8 needles and work an additional 2. Change to #9 needles and purl 3 rounds, bind off LOOSELY in purl. Sleeves: Slide sleeve stitches to #8-16 circular needle, pick up 3 (3, 4, 4) stitches under the arm, place marker, pick up 3 (3, 4, 4) more stitches. Working in the round and maintaining the lace pattern, work for 5 (5, 6, 6) inches. Then work a decrease round as follows: Knit to 3 stitches before the marker, k2tog, k1, slip marker, k1, k2tog. Work for one inch, then work another decrease round, repeat until a total of four decrease rounds have been made. Switch to #6 circular needles, work 3 purl rounds, bind off loosely in purl. Repeat for other sleeve. Weave in loose ends and block! See blocking note below Blocking note: when blocking Jasmine, stretch and pin the collar, to help make it drapey. Also, squishing together the ribby pleats in the back will make them even more drapey!! Try your next Jasmine in short sleeves, with a nice cotton/bamboo blend for a great summer look!!
