2 Level of difficulty: intermediate Designed in Lyonesse linen/wool blend 4-ply yarn, Drift is the perfect cover up for a summer s day. Sonja was inspired by her love of top down garment construction and a desire to create a shawl equivalent. The lace construction is worked in the round with raglan increases and magic loop technique and the design includes simple charts. Drift is fun to knit and the construction and yarn lend this garment a contemporary feel. Finished measurements 165 cm by 49 cm, c. 65 inches by c. 19 inches after blocking Pattern Designed For: Yarns Lyonesse, 4-ply (50% linen, 50% Falkland Islands Corriedale/Merino wool; 174 meters / 190 yards per 50g) The illustration uses Jade (green): 5 balls Notions two pairs of 4.5mm (US7, UK7) circular knitting needles (80 centimetres / 32 inches) four stitch markers darning needle to sew in ends Gauge/Tension 16 sts and 30 rows over 10 cm by 10 cm, 4 inches square, stocking stitch after blocking Pattern Notes This shawl is worked in the round with raglan increases. It starts with a provisional cast on which is almost immediately picked up. The first few rows may be a little difficult to work, so we recommend using two circular needles. Once the first raglan increases in Section 1 have been worked, you may wish to switch to using magic loop technique with just one circular needle. 4 Next Round: p1, *k to 1 st before m, p2* repeat twice more, k to last st before end of round, w&t last stitch The rest of the shawl is now worked on the right side of the fabric Round 1: k1, M1R, *k to last st before m, M1L, k2, round, M1L, k1 (8 increased, 588 sts) Round 2: k1, *p to 1 st before m, k2* repeat twice Repeat these 2 rounds 1 more time to 596 sts Work round 1 once more (8 increased, 602 sts) Care advice: Hand wash in cool water using a liquid wool wash. Spin dry. Do not tumble dry. Spread to dry on a towel or drying rack, hand pressing garment to shape and correct size. Garments may be hung to dry on a hanger or over a clothes or ceiling airer once they have been spun, but with a hanger you may get hanger marks and a larger item may grow if too damp before hanging; and with bars you should move a little several times to avoid marks. Stocking stitch and lace garments may benefit from light pressing (never press rib areas as they will lose their stretch!). Store folded. Lace Edging and Cast Off K next round, increasing 3 sts evenly on each longer section, 6 sts in total (6 increased, 608 sts) Begin working from Chart B After working all rows of Chart B cast off loosely: we used Elizabeth Zimmermann s Sewn Bind Off, and weave in all ends.
