2 This classic vest has a split hem, hanging slightly longer in the back than at the front, and elegant lines of broken rib that continue up the side of the body. Knitted seamlessly from the bottom up, this pattern comes with lots of options for making it your own, including a V-neck or scoop neck version. This pattern is also available for both 4-ply and DK weight s. Please note that this vest is designed for wearing with a shirt or blouse underneath. If you wish to wear it as a top you may like to decrease the depth of the armholes, by working fewer rows before beginning the neck shaping. 4 INSTRUCTIONS 1. BODY 1a. FRONT RIBBING Using longer circular needles, cast on 81 (91, 99, 107, 115, 121, 129, 135) sts using a Tubular Cast On, or Long Tail Cast On if preferred Work in 1 x 1 Broken Rib as follows: Row 1 (WS): sl1, [k1, p1] repeat to end Row 2 (RS): sl1, k to end Repeat these Rows until piece measures 8 cm / 3 inches from cast on edge, ending with a RS row Break and place stitches on hold 1b. BACK RIBBING Work as for Front Ribbing until piece measures 10 cm / 4 inches from cast on edge, ending with a RS row Break 1c. MAIN BODY SET-UP Note: in the following steps, the front and back pieces are joined. Two unique markers are placed to mark beginning of the round and other side With RS of Back Ribbing facing, cast on 1 st using the Backwards Loop Cast On, PUM2 (side marker) Transfer held sts from Front Ribbing on to left needle with RS facing, k1 [p1, k1] repeat to end, PUM1 to indicate beginning of round, cast on 1 st using the Backwards Loop Cast On 164 (184, 200, 216, 232, 244, 260, 272) sts Note: now front and back are joined, pattern continues in the round 1d. MAIN BODY Note: In this set-up round, markers are placed to separate side ribbing from the main body, with 9 (13, 13, 17, 17, 21, 21, 25) sts of ribbing on each side. 9 5. FINISHING 5a. JOIN SHOULDERS Turn work inside out and return 13 (13, 13, 14, 15, 15, 16, 16) held sts from right front and right back to needles. Beginning at the neck edge and using long tail of from back piece, join right shoulder using Three-Needle Bind Off Repeat for left shoulder 5b. BLOCKING Weave in all ends, and gently hand wash garment and block to measurements 5c. ARMHOLE BANDS Set-Up Round: With RS facing and beginning at underarm after held sts, join and PUK sts evenly around armhole edge, taking care to pick up an odd number of sts, transfer held sts from underarm to left needle and p1, [k1, p1] repeat across these sts, PM to indicate beginning of round Round 1: [k1, p1] repeat to end of round Repeat Round 1 until band measures 2.5 cm / 1 inch wide Cast off 5d. 10 CARE INSTRUCTIONS Gently hand wash your finished project in lukewarm water using a liquid wool wash. Press between two towels to remove excess water; do not tumble dry. Spread flat to dry, pinning or hand pressing to correct size.
