Bus leaves at 11:00 a.m. Let s get a head start on fall, and enjoy a nice ride to Yates Cider Mill, and have some fresh apple cider, and donuts. Sign Up!! Be sure to check out the sign-up book located in the Theater Room for special announcements, and sign-up sheets for outings. Seats go quickly! New sign-up sheets are usually placed a week in advance to outing. Brain Neurobics Brain Neurobics is a workout for the mind. We will be doing memory games, and doing different activities that stimulate the brain. Come check it out on Friday, September 10 a.m. in the AC!! Honoring Grandparents We would like to wish all the grandparents in our community a happy Grandparents Day, which is the first Sunday after Labor Day. Grandparents make a real difference in the lives of their grandchildren. We salute your contributions to family and the community. Have a great day! Grandparents Day Picnic! Please join us in the dining room on September 11th from 12:00 to 2:00 for our Grandparents Day Picnic! There will be entertainment provided by Savannah, who will sing, and tap dance, and also a clown will be here to do face painting, and make animals out of balloons. Be sure to invite your family, friends, and grandchildren; we have a lot of fun stuff planned for this event!! Come Together September is Intergeneration Month, a time for generations to connect through communication, celebration and education. Older adults can offer wisdom that only comes from life experience, while younger people provide new ideas and perspectives. Spend some time with each other and see how much you learn! Be on the lookout for conversation starters on DR tables! Welcome, Laura and Dr. Mark Wilkerson!! Laura, FNP-BC, began her career as a licensed registered nurse in 1997 working in Neuro-ICU in Saginaw, MI. She worked in a level 1 Trauma Center in 1998 as an emergency room nurse before pursuing her desire to further her education and obtain her Master s Degree in Nursing. Laura has a lot of experience as she worked as a nurse practitioner in family practice, and then later doing house calls seeing patients who were no longer capable of making it out to the doctor. Laura s commitment to higher level in-home care is her driving force with Advanced Medical House Calls, PLC. Her husband, Dr. Mark Wilkerson, is currently a Clinical Instructor for the University of Michigan and an Assistant Clinical Professor for Michigan State University. He has received many academic honors and teaching awards. He also works as an attending emergency department physician for the University of Michigan at Hurley Medical Center. In addition, he is the Medical Director for STAT EMS and AMD Urgent Care in Clio. Laura and Mark are both compassionate in providing comprehensive care in your own home. 5 6 Fun Times Had!! Showing off their visors that they made in crafts!! Welcome, Pat Vigna Pat was born in West Virginia. He moved to Detroit when he was 17. Pat served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and then became a draftsman. He owned a business with his brother Bob. Pat and his wife LOVED to travel; they traveled to every state in the U.S., except for Hawaii. He loves to play pinochle and bowl. He has 4 children, 7 grandchildren & 18 greatgrandchildren! Please welcome Pat. A Warm Welcome to Delores Decker Delores was born on August 8 in Highland Park, Michigan. She worked for Uniroyal Tire Company. Delores really enjoys reading; she belongs to a book club at her church. Delores likes to spend time with her friends, and go out to dinner. Her dog is named Beau, and you might have seen her taking him for walks. He is a cock-a-poo! Welcome home, Delores! Come join us for a fun time at Beanbag Toss on Monday, Sept. 2:30 in the LR! Residents having a blast at balloon volleyball! Meet James & Shirley Lindeen James and Shirley, who met in Nebraska, just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. They have 2 children and 1 granddaughter. Shirley taught at many public schools and at the University of Toledo. Walter was a college professor, and is currently writing a book called 18 Recessions. They have a cat named Merlin. When you see them walking by, be sure to say hi and welcome them. Therapy in color... very relaxing!

6 7 What s New! James Jim Hall Jim was born in Finley, Ohio. He moved to Detroit, MI, when he was in the first grade. Jim served in the U.S. Navy as an Air Craft Mechanic. He was a member of the News & Free press Hikers Club, a club where the members would meet up from all over the United States, and go hiking, and hang out together. He had met a lot of different people during that time. Jim likes to tell the story of when he and his friends built a piper cub coupe airplane all by themselves. Jim enjoyed snow skiing in the 40s and 50s. Today he enjoys reading, visiting with others, watching TV, and exercising. Welcome Home, James!! James Jim Constand Jim was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. While he was still active in the Navy, he sang in the Welsh Choir in Wales. Jim has been all over the world and has seen so much while he served in the Navy, and he states that he had sang a lot of songs during that time. James enjoys talking about the two restaurants that he owned and operated in downtown Detroit near the river. You may have eaten at one of them... Grecian Gardens, and/or Jim s Garage. Today Jim enjoys watching movies and meeting new people. Words from James, I enjoy life, I m a happy person, and I like to make people happy. Be sure to stop and say hi to Jim! Coupon Basket! We have several residents that use coupons when shopping that will appreciate it!! Salvation Army Day! This is your opportunity to get rid of the things you don t want, or need anymore that you don t know what to do with! The last Friday of the month (September 30), I will be collecting items to take directly to the Salvation Army store. Please bring your items to AR2 room before the 30th!!
