Continuing onto the Rotary year the club s focus will be on the following projects: International: Continuing our support and assistance with Donations In Kind and RAWCS with regular visits to deliver donations and assist with packing of shipping containers for other Rotary District projects happening in countries like East Timor, PNG End Polio Now Gala Dinner: This will be a significant event in the next Rotary year where we are aiming at raising $35,000. Bill Gates has confirmed he will match this. Scooter Project: With current number of 42 scooters in our fleet (Valued at $100,000) we will continue to provide access for those in need with these valuable and much needed mobility scooters. Hope Island looks to be starting up the northern arm of Scooter project and we will hand over 6 scooters to get them started.

We will raise funds throughout the year to inject into this organization The Sanctuary: Women s and Children Refuge: Continued support of this sanctuary with donations of goods, raising funds for furniture and equipment required for this incredible place. ANTI ICE Campaign, Mental Health in the community Annual Donations: we have given to local and international come to approximately $30,000, as well as a further $30,000 in grants we ve managed to secure and distribute to community. Apologies: Mick, Andy, Lynda, Catherine, Morgan, Paul, Brad Chairperson: PP Anthony Zirilli Anthony gave us all a brief rundown of the board meeting, and advised us that Rotarian Sharon Mitchell had offered her resignation to the board. Her business venture Drink Less program is taking off and she will not be able to commit any time to Rotary at the moment. Guests: The Sanctuary Women and Children's Refuge: Simone Patterson PP Karen Thomas: Rotary Club of Mudgeeraba Taylor Kane Rachel Spencer Items on the Day Bren spoke of the importance for us to be involved with and support our daughter club Rotary Club of Palm Beach by attending the 40 Birthday celebrations of Rotary Club of Palm Beach our daughter club. Being held at Mirrors Restaurant Monday 20 June, 6pm. Only $25 per head. Please booking details see below Bren also mentioned that we would be working with them on the Annual Rotary Antiques Fair which has been a successful fundraiser for the club raising $100,000 s of dollars over the last 30 years. As they are a small club and could do with some help. Johnny Bueti gave us an update on End Polio Dinner: committee has been busy behind the scenes locking in guest speakers, auction items for the night. The ball will be held at Marriot Surfers Paradise on 1 st October 2016.

Speaker Coordinator Shobha encouraged all Rotarians to get in touch with her in regards to being a guest speaker and doing a The person behind the badge talk. This is a great opportunity for members to get to know you and your vocation. Jackie King our ANTI ICE campaign chair is doing a great job with committee members and we hope to have our own community forum and awareness night in the coming months. Stay tuned. After the traffic incident in Burleigh with an ice addict this week, ICE is a problem affecting us on our very own doorstep. Jo and Jacqueline mentioned that if any member needs help on how to log in to club runner to get in touch with them to get access and passwords. Jo K will get a hot sheet on how to with some information for all members and send out in next 2 weeks Reminders and other Business Bren goes to Brisbane every other Thursday to help out at RAWCS. 4 Guest Speaker The Man Behind the Badge: Richard Spencer Richard entertained us with his very eventful life spent his life in the UK First car was a go cart 1974 got married to his first wife and paid 25 pounds for his first car which was aptly called the Wasp (a bright yellow number) At age 19 he bought a factory to build control panels for cars, his love of architectural engineering and design later leading him to some incredible places and spaces working on control rooms for Central Electrical Grid, nuclear power stations, Caspian Sea pipeline. Son Kevin from his first marriage (who is now 34) recently been in a horrific traffic accident and is recovering nicely now. In 2000 married his second wife Lisa bought a 1750 listed building as their first home and also his very own Aston Martin 2003 Waterloo Station installation of first industrial plasma 2005 worked on National Grid revamping and designing the control grid that supplies electricity to the whole of UK (was in a secret location due to threats of terror attacks from IRA) and also built a second and identical in operation to the first in another location in the advent of terror. Business always prided itself on discipline of time and deadlines to complete jobs and projects and has received bonuses of large sums because of this. In 2005 moved to Australia (Christine Cook his mother s name which became a bit of a joke in the family) Loves living here on the Gold Coast and loves his cars and his family. Contact: Trevor M is leading the charge so a few members did mention they may be able to assist; any help is greatly appreciated. We are trying to get the Rotaract Club to help out as well

5 Feast by the Sea Sunday 24 July, Justins Park, Burleigh Heads. Volunteers needed to assist with this incredible beachfront event. With proceeds raised on the day and $5 per ticket going directly to Rotary Club of Burleigh Head to support The Sanctuary Women s and Children s Refuge.
