1 Fleckney School Newslette Octobe 2017 Dea Paents, Govenos and Fiends, This half tem appeas to have flown by. We ae vey pleased to see how well the childen have settled this tem into thei new yea goups and classes. We have intoduced a new spelling scheme into KS2 this yea which compliments the phonics being taught at Foundation KS1. The childen have esponded to it eally well and benefitted fom egula and igoous spelling sessions fist thing in the moning, evey day. As you know we have also tialled a moe infomal fist paents evening of the yea. This is followed by the etun of the appointment vesion in the Sping tem and then the witten epots in the summe tem. Obviously, the teaches ae available to see you thoughout the yea as and when issues aise. I hope you all have a estful half tem beak. It won t be long befoe Yeas 1 and 2 begin eheasing fo thei Chistmas poduction! Best wishes M Leah Havest Festival What a wondeful Havest Festival we had in Octobe, celebating all that God has given us. The childen wee asked to bing in tins, catons and packets and we wee ovewhelmed with ove 350 food items being donated. The chuch looked amazing. At the sevice, some of ou Yea 4 childen ead Jesus paable about the ich, selfish fame and a few of ou Yea 6s acted out a dama to show what this would look like today. Ou Yea 3s talked about the Open Hands chaity which povides food, and so much moe, to less fotunate people in Leiceste and the suounding aeas. Fathe Philip s talk helped us to emembe those who ae suffeing futhe afield. Afte the sevice the food was collected by voluntees fom Open Hands, Leiceste who wee vey gateful to ou big-heated Fleckney folk fo contibuting so geneously to this wothwhile chaity. Ms Femme

2 Page 2 Fleckney School Newslette KS2 Fuit Tuck Shop We ve had a fantastic stat to this yea s KS2 tuck shop which is now called Healthy Heaven. The Yea 6 voluntees undewent taining at the beginning of tem and since then they have been vey busy making postes, deliveing assemblies and oganising the stock. They ve been doing a geat job of selling the snacks at beak times and I m sue the othe KS2 childen have been enjoying tying them. Miss Pante Application fo Fist-time Admission to Pimay School 2018 All paents need to apply to County Hall fo a school place fo thei child, even if they live in ou catchment aea. If you child is 4 yeas old befoe 1st Septembe 2018 and theefoe stating school fo the fist time, the closing date fo applications is 15th Januay Paents ae encouaged to apply online at whee you will find an online application fom and guidance notes. This is quick and easy and an ed eceipt is sent so you can be sue the application has gone though. Fo moe infomation, contact School Admissions on o admissions@leics.gov.uk N.B. Applications eceived afte the closing date will be dealt with afte those eceived on time; if the closing date is not met it may not be possible to offe you child a place at thei local school if all available places have been filled. We ae aleady looking fowad to the next academic yea. We will be welcoming new paents and childen into ou Foundation Stage at ou Open Aftenoon on Thusday 9th Novembe. They will have the oppotunity of seeing the Foundation Stage and meeting the staff. They will also have a tou of the whole school, to look at ou excellent teaching facilities and view some of the childen s wok on display. Yea 1 Fie Sevice Visit On Wednesday 27 th Septembe, Yea 1 wee visited by a membe of the Kibwoth Fie Sevice. The childen leaned about fie safety and pacticed Stop, Dop and Roll. We had a fun time leaning impotant skills. Miss Bennett

3 Page 3 Fleckney School Newslette Book Fai We ae holding a Scholastic Book Fai in the school hall and we hope that you and you child will visit togethe on the following days: Wednesday 25th Octobe (afte school) pm Thusday 26th Octobe (befoe school) am Fiday 27th Octobe (afte school) pm Fo evey 1 you spend, 60p is given to the school as commission and we will use this commission to put books into ou classooms and libay. Childen in Need We will be suppoting Childen in Need again on Fiday 17th Novembe. Futhe details will follow afte the half tem beak. School Kitchen Awad We ae extemely pleased that ou school kitchen has ecently been inspected and again has been given a 5 sta ating by a Leicesteshie County Council Envionmental Health inspecto. Many thanks and congatulations to all the kitchen staff on thei Yea 1 Louis Baille Day On Fiday 29 th Septembe Yea 1 took pat in a Louis Baille Day and we wee vey excited to have a visit fom Jan Tune, a membe of the Fleckney community who is without sight. The childen leaned all about the life of Louis Baille and how he invented the Baille code. In the aftenoon Ms Tune and he guide dog, Gina, came into to see the childen and talked about what it is like to be blind. Ms Tune ead them the stoy of The Guffalo fom a Baille book and bought in games fo the childen to play and made the childen name cads in Baille to take home. Miss Bennett

4 Page 4 Fleckney School Newslette Intenational School Awad (ISA) GOOD NEWS! Fleckney Pimay School has been awaded e-acceditation of the Bitish Council s Intenational School Awad (full acceditation). This awad ecognises the school s wok caied out in the aeas of; global citizenship; moden foeign languages; collaboative woking with oveseas schools; and global leaning. The e-acceditation element to the awad shows evidence that Fleckney also suppots a numbe of othe schools in the development of global knowledge, skills, values and intenationalisation. Ms Galpin FSA Macmillan Coffee Aftenoon The FSA aised the amazing sum of at the Macmillan coffee aftenoon on 29th Septembe. Thank you to the FSA fo oganising this event and to all the paents and childen who suppoted it by baking and puchasing the wondeful cakes. Safety - Impotant Remindes The safety of all ou childen is of paamount impotance. Theefoe paents/caes who bing childen to school by ca must not: stop on the yellow lines outside the school entance pak on the school diveway pak on any of the pavements nea the school obstuct the designated cossing aea nea to the Foundation Stage Unit. We also ask that you pak consideately and do not obstuct diveways of neighbouing houses. Unfotunately, some of ou neighbous have had thei cas damaged by inconsideate diving. We have a good elationship with ou neighbous which we wish to maintain. Fleckney School and the Police seek you coopeation in esolving this issue by equesting that paents pak sensibly and with due consideation fo othe oad uses. Please do not walk though the school ca pak with you childen cas o delivey vans/loies could be enteing o leaving the ca pak at any time of the school day. We ae always excited to hea fom childen about thei pets, howeve, may we take this oppotunity to emind families that dogs ae not pemitted on school pemises, due to health and safety egulations. Please could you efain fom tying dogs to the school gates when picking up and dopping off you childen Similaly, we ecognise that some childen ide to school on scootes unde paent supevision, this is a wondeful way to pomote ou Healthy Schools status, although fo the safety of all ou pupils, may we emind you that they must not be idden onto school gounds. Any scootes bought to school must be paked inside the gates and collected when you leave. Finally, we equest that school childen and thei siblings do not play on the climbing equipment befoe o afte school.

5 Page 5 Fleckney School Newslette Yea 3 Sikh Gudwaa Visit On 10th Octobe ou Yea 3s enjoyed a tip to the Oadby Gudwaa. They leaned a lot about Sikhism; the Guu Ganth Sahib; the five Ks; Sikh people s love of hospitality and the impotance in Sikhism of equality fo all. The childen and teaches especially enjoyed shaing the Langa delicious wam spicy vegetaian food and cha! Ms Femme Yea 4 Boswoth Battlefield Visit On Monday 2nd Octobe, Yea 4 went to Boswoth Battlefield and Heitage Cente and we had an amazing time. We went to Boswoth Battlefield to lean lots of inteesting facts. This was an amazing expeience. Fist we obseved amou and shap weapons. The guide told us about the peasants, the ich and thei jobs. Next we had a guided walk, we leant about the flags and that Heny Tudo was Welsh and Richad III was Bitish. Afte this we went to anothe aea and acted out the battle. This was fun yet the battle would have been guesome! In the Heitage Cente we looked at food and saw massive weapons. We tied a fake long bow. I would definitely ecommend going because the day was packed with facts, fun and excitement. Callum 4HS Yea 5 Space Month Yea 5 have had a fantastic, space-oientated month. We had a visit fom D Jonathan Nichols fom Leiceste Univesity who deliveed an inspiing pesentation about space. All of Yea 5 (including the teaches) wee shocked when we watched a video about the size of some of the biggest stas compaed to the size of ou planet. D Nichols bought along a special guest as well, D Suzie Imbe. Suzie won the ecent seies, Do You Have What It Takes? In this show, potential astonauts wee pitted against each othe in a seies of space challenges. We loved meeting Suzie and we ae hoping she has inspied the next cop of space exploes in Yea 5. We also had a supeb tip to the Space Cente whee we enjoyed leaning about the diffeent aeas of space by playing inteactive games and looking at items of space equipment. M Scanage
