1 around town OCTOBER 2015 Founders Day October 3 rd in Historic Pickens Don t miss the 4th Annual Founders Day Music Festival in Historic Pickens, South Carolina, this Saturday, October 3rd from 2pm till 9pm at the amphitheater in uptown Pickens - free and fun for all! Five bands will provide the entertainment on the Pickens Amphitheater stage beginning at 2pm. Sample the wares of the food and craft vendors as bluegrass music fills the air. Headliners for the event include Volume Five and County Clare. Closing out the line-up are the Sweet Potato Pie Kids, Laurel Fork and New Dixie Storm. Pickens Revitalization Association is dedicated to the enhancement, preservation and sustainable growth of Pickens historic downtown area. 2 The free event, celebrating Pickens music and cultural heritage, will begin at 2:00pm and end around 9:00pm in the evening. There will be a Big Jam to close out the night, open to anyone who wants to jump up on stage and participate while the fireworks go off from Bruce Field. 4 EXHIBITIONS AT THE PICKENS COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART & HISTORY Galeria Mexicana Kay s work on everything from coloring books to pianos to staircases and walls are included in numerous private collections as well as a variety of venues, notably Gringos Cantina, The Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, and at her studio in The Ward Artist Studios, all in Greenville. Kay Larch: Galeria Mexicana is sponsored in part by South State Bank, Pickens Savings & Loan and Robinson Funeral Home, Crematory and Memorial Gardens. The Pickens County Museum of Art & History is funded in part by Pickens County, members and friends of the museum and a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Located at 307 Johnson Street in Pickens, the museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am - 5pm, Thursdays from 9am - 7:30 pm and Saturdays from 9am - 4:30pm. Admission is free but donations are welcomed. Shifting Plates II Shifting Plates II, the second print exhibition directed by Steven Chapp of Black Dog Press and Studio, is a two part print exhibition consisting of 32 original prints by 16 South Carolina printmakers. It is Chapp s intention not only to get a great body of work together for an exhibit but to help inform the general public to gain some insight into the complexities of the printed image. Shifting Plates II consists of a range of printmaking media and techniques that makes for a very informative exhibit. You will see wood cuts and engraving, dry point, stone lithography, reduction linocuts, screenprinting, intaglio from photopolymer, & metal plates and monotypes. Shifting Plates II is funded in part by the Metropolitan Arts Council with funds received from the City of Greenville, BMW Manufacturing Company, Michelin North America, Inc., SEW Eurodrive and the South Carolina Arts Commission. Acker, Lambert, Hinton PA will be hosting the 3rd Annual Water Cooler Classic to benefit the Greenville Area Parkinson Society. The event will be held Thursday, October 8th at 5:30pm at the office located at 859 Pendleton Street, Pickens, SC Teams of four play a two best ball format for the right to represent Acker Lambert Hinton, PA at the finals held in ZEN in downtown Greenville on November 5, The grand prize is a golf trip and lodging for four at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. The Water Cooler Classic is a unique 9-hole indoor putting challenge that benefits the Greenville Area Parkinson Society. The event is open to golfers and non-golfers.
