During one of Pierre Jr. s Computer Science degree courses at UC Riverside, he was inspired by the concept of decentralization. Taking out his first credit card for $2,000, he began constructing a growing system and writing a business plan to become the first farmer in his family. Today Go Green has become one of the largest organic-hydroponic producers in the U.S. Pierre has been recognized at the White House by President Obama as a Champion of Change in The Future of Agriculture. Go Green s mission is to setup relatively small farms across the country to grow organic produce locally. Their HappyLiving brand means organic, sustainable, and year-round quality. Tour Stop #2: Liberty Public Market - Liberty Station Think Seattle s Pike Place Market or Barcelona s La Boqueria, San Diego s new Liberty Public Market in historic Liberty Station brings together the cuisines and culture of the region. It is best described as a bustling market in an old Navy building with hip eateries, bars, and specialty food and craft vendors. Enjoy a private tour of the market and then select your favorite artisanal vendor for eats and treats. *Lunch on your own at Liberty Public Market. Tour Stop #3: 2Plank Vineyards Urban Winery - Sorrento Valley 2Plank Vineyards is a boutique urban winery dedicated to producing small volumes of the highest quality of wine. They source grapes from some of the finest vineyards in California, to create food-friendly wines that are great for sipping or aging. The urban winery is a recent phenomenon whereby a wine producer chooses to locate their winemaking facility in an urban setting within a city rather than in the traditional rural setting near the vineyards. Eric Larson San Diego Farm Bureau Executive Director Fixing California s Water Eric Larson is the Executive Director of the San Diego County Farm Bureau. He has held that position since January 1997.

4 Eric Larson San Diego Farm Bureau Executive Director Fixing California s Water Eric Larson is the Executive Director of the San Diego County Farm Bureau. He has held that position since January Eric began working in San Diego County s agricultural industry in Previous to joining Farm Bureau he spent 13 years as the general manager of an agricultural marketing cooperative. Eric currently serves as a director of the Southern California Water Committee and is on the executive committee of the San Diego Food Systems Alliance. In addition to his work in agriculture, he served two terms as a member of the Carlsbad City Council and is a past director of the Carlsbad Municipal Water District, the San Diego County Water Authority, and the Encina Wastewater Authority. Nan Sterman KPBS A Growing Passion Let Me Tell You a Story California native Nan Sterman is host, co-producer, and writer of the award winning TV show, A Growing Passion, which celebrates the growing world; from farms and nurseries to backyards ands schoolyards, to native habitats and more. Nan is a garden designer, author, botanist, and an award-winning garden communicator. She is dedicated to the transformation of planted landscapes from overly thirsty and resource intensive to climate appropriate and sustainable. Her efforts combine age-old techniques with modern technologies. Nan has worked towards this goal since the 1970s when she was involved in the first wave of the sustainability movement. Early on, she was trained at the Integral Urban House, a demonstration retrofit Victorian home in Berkeley, Ca. She went on to earn a botany degree from Duke University, a Masters in biology from UC Santa Barbara, and a Masters in instructional design from San Diego State University. Karen Archipley, Co Founder of Archi s Acres Community Roots Karen Archipley, Co Founder with her husband Colin of Archi s Acres B Corp and Archi s Institute for Sustainable Agriculture (AISA) in partnership with Cal Poly Pomona. Archi s Acres is a small scale Hydro Organic farm in San Diego County, mostly known for their living basil and now their packaged basil in Stores throughout Southern CA. Karen heads up the recruiting of students and identifies employment opportunities and entrepreneurship assistance for AISA graduates as well as marketing and Sales of Archi s Acres produce and AISA graduates products. Karen believes in Don t get mad, Get Involved thus, she is on the Board of CCOF, in addition is President of the CCOF Pacific Southwest Chapter, Board of San Diego Farm Bureau and Community Outreach Committee of Farm Service Agency. Archi s Acres planted the First Lady s Garden in 2013, and was recognized as 2014 Champions of Change for Veteran Entrepreneurship.

Value: Ranking 12th in the nation, San Diego boasts top crops in nursery, flowers, avocados, tomatoes, citrus, chicken, eggs, mushrooms, succulents, and strawberries. 68% of San Diego County farms are 1-9 acres and nearly 19% are operated by women. San Diego County has more certified organic growers than any other county in the nation with more than 400 certified organic farms and San Diego County is home to 44 certified Farmers Markets throughout the county. San Diego County growers represent $1.8B in farm gate value, translating into $5B in county economic value.
