He received his B.S. in mathematics from Towson State University in While serving for 20 years in the Air Force, he taught mathematics for three years at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and economics for three years at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He also served in the Pentagon as a division chief from 1985 to 1988 while earning a Ph.D. in economics from New York University in 1986; after which he joined the faculty of Wofford College, where he's been ever since. Dr. Machovec's first book, on competition theory, was published in 1995 and won an award from a national organization of pro market economists. He is currently putting the final touches on two books. One that deals with the causes of our current recession, and the second is a reflection on little known German contributions to economics and human action.
