The Circle for January is Austin Jorgenson, Don Borchereding,and Dave Nelsen. (Circles should send Clare their programs as quickly as possible so they can be included in the Downtowner.) Stay alert for signup opportunities online at The major expense so far this month was $450 for the Adopt a Family program. Co-Presidents, Mary and Linda along with their helpers, went shopping. It sounds like they had a great trip. Thanks to them for this effort. 100% of members have now paid their dues. THANK YOU FROM YOUR CLUB! Herb Riegler was speaker this past Thursday. It was very appropriate that a man in his 90 s and a WWII veteran should be there. There aren t many veterans of that war still living. Herb was introduced by Dan Carlson. Herb was a pilot, a very young pilot, of a C-37 cargo plane. He related his experiences in the south Pacific. When asked what kind of armament they had on board, he answered an emphatic NONE. His type of aircraft was for transporting troops and supplies, mostly the latter. They were never intentionally sent into a combat area. Herb related one time that they discovered a Japanese Zero hiding under their tail. He never did anything, so they figured that he was lost and using Herb s aircraft as a guide. Herb s mind seemed remarkably sharp for a man of that age. His memory of incidents was amazing Thanks for your service, Herb - 1 -

Parking is free at rear of hotel & under the structure. Meetings last about one hour. 3 Did you know? Del Lawson recently lost a brother. Our condolences. Charlie Graham recently had a birthday and Clare Warren has one next week. Don Borcherding is working on getting a Social Hour set up on TUES. DEC. 11 AT THE FORAGER 4 PM Come and see if it happens. Last month was enjoyed by several. A time to enjoy members, significant others, and anyone else. You ll be able to have a meal at the Forager, if you choose. Emily Wandler was the only Student of the Month to show up this month. Emily is daughter of Chad and Kristie Wandler. She has been selected as the Kiwanis Student of the Month for November by the Mayo High School Physical Education/Health Department. Emily is a hard worker and always shows kindness and leadership in class and on the team. She is a member of the Mayo volleyball team and earned a scholar athlete Big 9 conference award as well as the Kitty Kat bomber award for putting the team above herself. Her coach states that Emily has a very positive influence on her teammates. Emily volunteers at the Waters on Mayowood. She plans to attend a 4 year college, either studying interior design or care for the elderly. **Amanina Rashid was absent, but was the 4 H student for this month. She is a senior at Century High School. ****It s time to buy and sell Hockey Festival tickets. We always hope members will buy a couple of tickets even if you don t go. You can give your tickets to Colleen. She has a good way to distribute these. Bill Kalmes has the tickets for sale. Bill has the work schedules. Please sign up for 2 shifts. ****Bonnie reported on the reading program in full swing. We will detail results as we go along.
