1 Uploading Images & Spporting Text Gidelines for applications to: BSc Immersive Systems Design

2 How is my application assessed? Stage 1: Admissions staff from the programme yo have applied to will view the images yo have ploaded and read yor Spporting Text and UCAS Personal Statement. The criteria on the following pages is sed to assess yor application.

3 Assessment Criteria Ability to apply practical skills. Ability to apply analytical and conceptal skills. Ability to commnicate abot yor work and to pt it into context. Ability to demonstrate an interest in one or more of the following skills: Virtal Reality 3D modelling (software) and visalising in 3D (models, sclptre) Games development (2D/3D) Programming Creativity (comptational, other media)

4 Ability to apply practical skills We want to see yor practical skills and how yo explore and se different media and materials: This cold be demonstrated in a variety of ways inclding drawing / painting (analytical / abstract), 2D/3D work, etc. This cold be evidenced by ploading photographs of yor sketchbooks, development work, preparatory sketches and final pieces. Several small images cold be groped together in one slide.

5 Ability to apply analytical and conceptal skills We are interested in the concepts and ideas behind yor work and how they progress and develop; from the initial starting point / sorce of inspiration throgh to a finished piece of work. This cold be evidenced by ploading photographs of sketchbook pages / notebooks / worksheets development sheets and also finished pieces.

6 At least 5 ot of the 10 images ploaded shold show development work i.e. sketchbook pages or development sheets. These shold be mainly made p of yor own work, we do not want to see lots of secondary sorce material (magazine ct ots, print ots from the internet, photocopies from books). The remaining 5 images shold show a range of work and yor abilities and interests; these images may inclde work in progress, sketchbook pages, screen prints or final pieces of work. These images, again, shold be mainly made p of yor own work, we do not want to see lots of secondary sorce material. Yo shold also inclde some independently generated work, i.e. self directed work which yo prodce otwith yor crrent school /college /other corse crriclm which demonstrates yor own personal interests.

7 In order to show the development of ideas throghot a project yo may wish to show several drawings, screen prints/pieces of work together within one image; yo cold do this by photographing several pieces of work together at once or by photographing several pieces individally and sing Photoshop (or a similar programme) to combine into one image. This can be particlarly sefl when trying to show work that cannot be photographed at the same time i.e. a series of pages in a sketchbook or steps in the development of a 3D model.

8 Ability to commnicate abot yor work and to pt it into context We are interested in how yo commnicate abot yor work, the projects it reslted from and the ideas and sorces of inspiration behind it. Use yor Spporting Text to tell s abot the pieces of work and what inspired yo, how yor ideas develop throghot the project and elements of the project yo consider to be the most sccessfl. (Please do not se this statement to list the materials and software sed)

9 Ability to demonstrate an interest in (Virtal Reality, 3D modelling, Games prodction, Programming, Comptational Creativity) We are interested in finding ot more abot yo and the VR, 3D and game artists/designers that yo are looking at or are inspired by or experiences yo have played. We want to know what or who has motivated or inspired yo to apply for the specialist pathway (e.g 3D Modelling, Games and Virtal Reality) Yo shold inclde yor reasons for applying to Glasgow School of Art and information on what yo hope to gain by stdying the programme. Yo shold se the Spporting Text and yor UCAS personal statement to address the areas above.

10 Spporting Images and Files Each one of the 10 ploaded images shold contain examples of different work. If yo wish to inclde different angles of the same piece of work or detailed sections please do so within one image. Before yo finally sbmit yor application, check each image to ensre yo are happy with the size and level of detail yo can see as this will be what admissions staff viewing yor application will also see. Maximm size of 200kb per image Resoltion of images shold 72dpi.

11 Interview (Stage 2) Applicants selected for interview will be asked to bring their portfolio of work to the interview. This shold normally inclde the work sbmitted in the ploaded images/files and any additional work completed in the intervening time period. Please bring sketchbooks and not jst final pieces of work. The portfolio interview is a two-way process: for yo to gain a better nderstanding of the GSA and yor chosen programme and for GSA staff to view yor portfolio and ask yo qestions abot yor work and yor interest in yor chosen specialism. The portfolio interview will normally last abot 20 mintes and will be condcted by 2 members of staff. Applicants from otside the UK will be offered a telephone /Skype interview and may be asked to spply additional work in lie or a portfolio.
