Choosing the right Chainsaw The size of yor chainsaw is important! Using a chainsaw with minimm 3 horsepower (48 cc s, 18 + bar w/ 3/8 chain) is best, becase it ensres a commercial-grade cltch that althogh it may sometimes slip nder a heavy load, the cltch will not brn p. Maximm chainsaw size is 100cc s or 7 horsepower. Electric chainsaws and smaller gas chainsaws will give satisfactory performances with lighter loads only. If yo have prchased a model DH3-WD Direct Drive version, then yor saw mst have an accessible otboard sprocket. Most modern saws are bilt this way. If yo have prchased a model DH3-WU Universal Drive version, then yo can mont yor Lewis Mlti-Drill on any chainsaw. Chainsaws mst be properly maintained and serviced (see yor chainsaw owner s manal or check with yor local chainsaw dealer). Please ensre that yor chainsaw s throttle and cltch are in proper working order becase they directly affect the safe performance of the Lewis Mlti-Drill. The operator assmes all risk when sing an engine with more than 100cc s or 7 horse power. 1

3 Operating Tips TIP #1 - Never let yor Lewis Mlti-Drill gearbox rn dry!!! Nearly all gear damage occrs in a DRY GEAR BOX. Any oil or grease is better than none at all. The gear box was filled at the factory with 10 onces of 80/90 weight gear oil. To check oil level, trn gearbox on its side as shown in photo. Remove oil fill plg and then slightly tip gearbox towards yo, oil shold start to drip ot if oil level is correct. TIP #2 - Keep all nts and bolts tight. Use Loctite to insre that bolts don t vibrate loose. TIP #3 - In case of a jam: Stop the engine. If the drill is jammed, yo cold damage yor Lewis Mlti- Drill or yor chainsaw if yo contine to power p the saw. Jst stop the engine and free the drill or ager, then restart the engine and resme drilling. Damage is more likely to occr with larger chainsaw engines. TIP #4 Noise Levels: The sond level prodced by a Lewis Mlti-Drill is negligible. Nearly all noise and vibrations emanate from the drive engine. To determine relevant engine noise and vibration levels, see yor chainsaw owner s manal. Note that in certain applications, the Lewis Mlti-Drill may dampen the engine noise and/or vibration levels. TIP #5 Be Safe! Wear gloves, eye and ear protection and do not operate this nit while nder the inflence of alcohol or drgs. This Lewis Mlti-Drill Owners Manal is general in natre. 4 Assembly & Monting Instrctions STEP 1 for DH3-WD Direct Drive 1.Remove bar and chain from yor chainsaw, retain bar-monting nts Remove the spring clip from yor saw s otpt shaft, then remove the large washer and drive sprocket. Re-install spring clip bt not large washer or sprocket. 3. Assemble Direct Drive System: In the spplied plastic tbe find the correct 3/8 thick disk to fit the spline on the otpt shaft of yor saw. Then find the ½ thick master disk. Line p the holes and bolt the two halves together sing the spplied screws. TIP: Use Loctite to insre screws stay tight. In some cases the spplied L906A spacer is reqired to lengthen the adaptor. If needed this spacer shold be sandwiched between the 3/8 disk for yor saw and the ½ master disk. Use the three longer screws. 4. Bolt spplied monting plate onto yor saw sing the bar-monting nts that yo retained. 5. Slide assembled Direct Drive onto Lewis Mlti-Drill inpt shaft (3/8 master disk side fits mlti-drill). Attach assembled Mlti-Drill to monting plate sing the spplied nts and washers. Use Loctite. Insre adaptor assembly slides over spline on saw, se saw s chain adjster screw to insre adaptor remains in-line. 6. When the Lewis Mlti-Drill is bolted tight to the saw, the adaptor shold have approximately ¼ of back and forth play. This allows everything to float properly. If yo have more than ½ of play yo may want to se the spplied spacer to insre proper contact with the splines. Step 2 contines on Page 5

5 STEP 1 Alternate for DH3-WU Universal Drive 1.Remove bar and chain from yor chainsaw, retain bar-monting nts. 2. Bolt spplied Universal Bar onto yor Mlti-Drill sing the spplied lock washers, flat washers and nts. 4. Wrap spplied ctter-less chain arond the sprocket on the chainsaw and then arond the sprocket on the Mlti-Drill and fasten with spplied connecting link. Then replace side cover on chainsaw, adjst chain tension sing the adjster screw, and permanently tighten monting bolts. If the ctter-less chain is too long, then grind off rivets to remove links as necessary. 3. Bolt the Mini-Bar assembly on yor chainsaw sing the retained bar-monting nts. Adjst minibar back sing the chain adjster if yor saw is so eqipped or jst slide the mini-bar towards saw handle and temporarily sng bolts. 5. Slide spplied chain gard over Lewis Mlti-Drill stds and secre with 2 flat washers and nts, as well as 1 bolt and washer on rond end. 6. Bend brace to sit and attach with inclded nts and bolts for added spport. See Item 31 on Page 8. Step 2 contines on Page 5 4

6 Assembly & Monting Instrctions STEP 2 for DH3-WD Direct Drive and for DH3-WU Universal Drive 1. Install handle: Remove the three 3/8 bolts from the top of the Lewis Mlti- Drill. Keep nit pright as oil will leak ot. Position handle where desired and replace bolts. Use Teflon tape or liqid thread sealer to reseal the bolts. 2. Screw the spplied 1 Drive Adaptor into the otpt shaft of the Lewis Mlti-Drill ntil threads are almost tight. Then line p the flat spots with those on the Mlti-Drill. 3. Slide the spplied Drive Sleeve over the two flat spots and tighten set screw (se Loctite). Failre to se the Drive Sleeve may reslt in the Drive Adaptor threads becoming extremely tight and difficlt to remove. 5 Yo are now ready to attach yor ager or drill and get to work or go play! Step 3 Attach yor ager to the Lewis Mlti-Drill All Lewis Agers come with a no tools reqired swivel pin that is easy to install or remove even with gloves on. Simply pop the retainer spring off the end of the retainer pin and remove from ager, line the pin hole of the Lewis Mlti-Drill with the one in the ager, then replace the retainer pin and stretch the retainer spring back into place..

12 Lewis MDC001 5/8 Drill Chck Package comes with the chck, key and MD 039 X ½ NF drive adaptor. This package comes with all yo need to attach the drill chck on to yor LEWIS MULTI-DRILL. Accessories Lewis Drive Extensions allow yo to drill a deeper hole with an ager by extending its shaft length and they are available in 2 sizes - the 12 inch and the16 inch - c/w 1 inch drive hb and MDP01 retainer pin. MDX16 ager extension MDX12 ager extension Lewis Drive Bshings allow yo to se the Lewis Agers on a power head that has a rond otpt shaft that is smaller than 1 inch. We stock 7/8 and ¾, other sizes available on reqest. MDB x 7/8 MDB x 3/4 Lewis Retainer Pins These replacement retainer pins are strong, bilt from C 1045 hardened material. They make it easy to change or remove an ager from yor Lewis Mlti-Drill. MDP01 Retainer Pins Lewis Drive Adaptors allow yo to se yor Lewis Mlti- Drill on many other attachments. Lewis Mlti-Drill comes with an MD 039 x 1 adaptor that fits all Lewis Agers. MD 039 x 1 MD 039 x 7/8 MD039 x ¾ MD039 x ½ NF If yo wish to rn another brand of ager with the Lewis Mlti- Drill and it has a rond drive hb that is smaller than 1 or reqires threads, then yo will need an optional drive hb.
