We will send out an or flyer, when appropriate, as a gentle reminder about happenings and events, we will also use our app as a reminder tool. Sometimes this could be 24 hours beforehand. Please also check our website calendar. Please note the days that support your child s faith journey and help them to attend celebrations that are not necessarily during school hours. Mass at St John Vianney is at 9am every Sunday.

2 Dear Whanau, Wow, but time really does fly when you are having fun! Book Week at Monte was such a great success again. Adults and children alike had so many opportunities to really get stuck into literature in such a variety of ways. We were blessed with fantastic, passionate authors and readers who shared their enthusiasm with us through story telling, art, reading and dressing up to accommodate our Pirate theme. The tamariki were really engaged by all the effort that was put into this week. A MASSIVE thank you once again to all our community and grandparents who supported us in so many ways; from volunteering their help in the library and time spent at school, baking and making delicious kai for grandparents morning to purchasing and donating books to our ever growing collection of great reads in our library. You are all nga whetu! The winners of our book characters were so hard to choose, because so many of you go to so much effort sharing your favourite characters! And the posters that the children made for our library competition were stellar! Tino pai everyone! On the Saturday after book week our very dedicated teaching staff participated in some professional development at May Road school. The day was titled Carrying the Tapa. Even though this was at the end of a very busy week and on a weekend, our staff are really dedicated to making a difference to our learners; so were there with great enthusiasm, knowing that what we were gaining an insight to was going to benefit ourselves, our community and most importantly our Pasifika tamariki. Each individual in our school is valued as a unique person created in God s image and becoming immersed and familiar with what makes our children tick and what difference their culture makes, is very important to us as a staff in our world of education. We were assured and affirmed that as teachers we are performing really well in a culturally responsive way in many aspects our school values and core teaching aligns and dovetails with Pasifika values and we were enlightened as to why things are the way they are sometimes, and what we can do to grow and improve as a joyful learning multi-cultural community. The next day after Mass, we went up Mt Roskill to celebrate with the wider Puketapapa community by our Monte choir group and Kapa Haka group performing at the Matariki Manu Aute Kite Day. Another memory making moment that our children will have knowing how much our different cultures are valued. After this past week I can truly say I am so proud and joy filled to be principal of a school with great staff and community. Please remember Confirmation Sunday on 2 July at 2pm. The colour was pink. And my hair was plaited. My socks were white and red and green. I had a bow on the side of my hair. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking because she has a horse in her house. That is funny. By Neriah dinosaur. On my back it was spikey green and on my body it was blue. I had lines on my body. I had white teeth. I like dinosaurs. I have a book called Dinosaur Farts. When I push the buttons it makes noises. By Kingston I was Rapunzel and I had a jumper and a flower too. The colour was pink and purple and I had red and white shoes. My mum gave me a dress. I have a book about Rapunzel. I like Rapunzel because she has long hair and I like long hair. By Faith In Book Week, I was Harry Potter. I am black and I have a wand. I like Harry Potter because he can fight back and he can do spells. By Treyden On Book Day, I dressed up as Harold from Captain Underpants. I wore a grey top and black pants. I had black shoes and a blue hat. I wanted to be Harold because I love Captain

5 Underpants the book. Harold is the best friend of George. It was a fun week. By Samuel I was Captain Underpants. I had white undies and a cape. I liked my costume. I have a book about it. I like Captain Underpants because he saves people. By Joshua Black Ninja and I had numchuckers and also a book. The book was a 6 th edition book. I was wearing white shoes and a mask. I like Ninjas because they do crime fighting. By Angelo Green Ninja. I had a Ninja sword and I had a Ninja book. It was a green Ninja book. Ninjas are cool! I wanted to be a Green Ninja because I love green Ninjas. They are cool and they destroy bad guys. By Noah It was book week. I was Spiderman but I was mixed up and I took a Click! On my jumper I had an A! My cape was blue and my mask was red. It had a spider web on it. I liked my costume. I like Spiderman because he can catch things with his web and he can fly. I wanted to be a Ninja because I like swords. By Siahn I was George, a kid from Captain Underpants. I had a white T-shirt and black pants. I had a striped tie. I made a ring. It was white and red. I wanted to be George because I had a white T-shirt like George. By Eddie I was James from James and the Giant Peach. I had comic book shoes. I had some green shorts and I had a blue T- shirt and a blue jumper. I had a big orange peach. I wanted to be James and the Giant Peach because I have a book of it. My favourite part is when he goes inside the peach. By Emerson I dressed up as Captain Stilton. My costume was grey and red and also white and blue. I had a belt that I could float out into space. I had a black nose and whiskers. I had special boots to go out into space. fraidy mouse. By Alekos On Book Week, we got to do a book parade. I dressed as Tintin.The spotty shirt was the inside shirt. I had a vest too. I had black shoes. I wanted to be Tintin because he has a gun and he likes people. By Oliver Smurf. I was blue and white. I was wearing face paint. I had a blue face and I had white shoes. I wanted to be a Smurf because I like Smurfs. I am going to get a Smurf book out from the library. By Yuvan I was Clark Kent. He is Superman. He also wears glasses. When he turns into Superman, he rips his T-shirt and you can see the symbol. I like Superman because he can fly and he saves people.
