1 CCCBC Newsletter Central California Cage Bird Club MAY 2008 MEETING The meeting will not be at Mancini Hall this month. The May will be held at the home of Nate & Charlene Stoller. 960 Reynolds Address Blanked Ave. out Ripon at request Ca. of Phone member Our May meeting is going to be an aviary tour at the home of Nate and Charlene Stoller. We will visit their birds, see all their antique toys, and have a bar-b-que. Nate is going to grill some burgers and hot dogs and sausages and the members can bring pot luck dishes to go with the main course. So dig out your favorite bbq recipe or just bring some chips and dip,,,,or just come anyway! We should have wonderful weather for a picnic and the Stoller s have a lovely home and aviary! If you need a ride from Mancini Hall, call Terese at We sure are doing fun stuff at our meetings. We can thank Janna and all the programs she plans for us. April 13 th Minutes Attendance at this meeting included 17 members, two children guests, and three members of the Tuolumne County Exotic Bird 4-H Project from Sonora. The raffle earned $ Business: The next meeting will be held at the home of Nate and Charlene Stoller in Ripon. We will be touring their aviary and having a Barbeque lunch. A map will be included in the this newsletter. It was suggested that the club pay for the hot dogs and hamburgers and provide the drinks and members bring pot luck dishes. Any who want to carpool from Mancini Hall should contact Terese at Oasis Sanctuary in Arizona. By unanimous vote of the membership, the club will be sending a donation to this bird sanctuary of up to $ The board will decide how this money will be spent. Program: A very interesting presentation was given by Michael Mainguth from the Gold Country Avicultural Society. He spoke on the 4-H program on exotic birds started in He is the 4-H leader of the group and he brought with him a member and his co-leader. They brought many examples of their projects, pictures, and two live birds. The program teaches the identification and care of pet birds. The group has visited Cockatoo Downs in Grass Valley and after the presentation, members of CCCBC expressed an interest in visiting it also. Minutes submitted by Sharon Byrne. If You have paid your 2008 dues and have not received the card let me know. Also let me know if there is another family member that would like to have a card in their name. J. D. Carter Editor/Publisher Treasure s Report April 2008 SAMPLE Election of officers is coming up in October. Open offices will include President, Vice President and Treasurer. All of these officers have served their 2 years. Sharon Byrne just started as Secretary, but you never know,,,,she might want to run for something else. We encourage you to put yourself forward if you are interested in running for office. For a complete list of duties, contact Terese for a copy of the by-laws. The Club s current bank balance is $4, In accordance with the by-laws, the books were audited by another member, Chryse Seeman, and everything was in perfect order. Sherry Fisher We want to extend a special thank you to Mike Mainguth of the Sonora 4-H, Exotic Bird Group. He put on a great presentation and brought along one of his 4-H ers, Wakiza Councilman and his co-leader Deb Wilson. Mike is a truly dedicated bird person, as well as a great contributor to the young people of his community. He says It is my hope that others will step up and volunteer with the 4-H youth in their communities in any way they can to promote aviculture. To contact Mike for more info on setting up an exotic bird group of 4-H, to mainguth@miode.com, or call Janna for his number. We are sending complimentary copies of our newsletter to his group for their enjoyment. Terese Davis Things to Look Forward To On September 6th we will, again, be buying a group table at the Sonora Bird Mart. The cost is divided equally among those who participate. It is an excellent opportunity to offer our birds to the public as well as visit with other bird folk and support the efforts of the bird club in Sonora. We did this last year with great success! Remember, too, that our October Bird Show is supported by our advertised-to-the public Bird Seller s Mart at the show and members get first choice of tables. We also ask for donations of good stuff, including birds, for the show s Raffle table and Auction. Donations are also encouraged, frankly solicited, for our August Picnic and Auction so plan ahead to let these opportunities work for you. Janna Place
