1 HOME ARTS ENTRIES ALL ENTRY FORMS MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 10, Adult $2.00 per entry Junior (ages 13-17) $1.00 per entry Youth (ages 5-12) $1.00 entry Person(s) with Disabilities $1.00 per entry Open Division Home Arts PRICE OF ENTRIES The Home Arts is aimed at the homemaker, hobbyist, and group organizations. The Danish System of judging is used. Each item entered is graded on its own merit rather than in competition. Awards given are 1 st 3 rd, Best of Class, Best of Show & People s Choice. All the Communities of Pima County, and nearby friends and families are invited to enter their items of interest in competition at The Pima County Fair. GENERAL RULES All entrants must be Southern Arizona residents; winter visitors are eligible and welcome. Due to the family atmosphere of the Fair, artwork deemed inappropriate or containing nudity will not be permitted. The Pima County Fair and its agents assume no responsibility for loss, theft, or damage to any artwork during the periods of receiving, exhibition, return or storage. Every precaution will be taken to guard against such loss or damage. The Pima County Fair reserves the right, both final and absolute, to interpret all rules and regulations and to arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and differences in regard there to or otherwise arising out of or connected to the Pima County Fair. Articles previously entered into the Pima County Fair are not eligible for competition again. The exhibitor is solely responsible for deciding on the proper class and lot number for each entry. We will do our best to reclassify improperly classified entries. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ANY ITEMS BE RELEASED BEFORE THE CLOSE OF THE FAIR. Receipts issued on receiving day must be presented to redeem artwork.

2 HOW TO BECOME A WINNER Cakes: Pies: Jams: Jellies: Conserves: Appearance, texture, crumb and taste. Appearance, flavor, texture of crust and filling. Crushed fruit, not strained or sieved, cooked with sugar until the mixture is thick. Natural fruit flavor must be preserved. A translucent semi-solid mass which holds its shape and at the same time quivers when slightly shaken. Preserves the true fruit flavor. A mixture of several fruits, cooked to jam-like consistency. Addition of nuts and/or raisins are optional. Preserves: Whole small fruits or pieces of larger fruits cooked in syrup until clear and thick. The fruit is firm and retains its shape. Marmalade: A clear, jelly like preserve with fruit suspended in small, thin pieces. Clear, thick syrup. Pickles/Relish: All cucumber and mixed pickles must be firm and crisp. Sweet pickles should be firm, yet tender. Natural color of product, clearness of liquid, uniformity of pack, and clear (not cloudy) liquid covering contents are allimportant. Flavor is essential in this class. DO NOT OVERCOOK. Fruit: Vegetables: Ripeness determines the color, taste and texture of canned fruits. Uniformity of pack, and clear (not cloudy) liquid covers the contents. Here again, the product must be fresh and true to color to determine the taste. Clear (not cloudy) liquid covers the contents. Miscellaneous Foods: Perishable Foods: Quick Breads: Appearance, texture, and flavor. Appearance, texture, flavor, and blending of herbs & spices. Shape, volume, texture, grain, and flavor.

3 Yeast Breads: Outside shape: Loaf well proportioned, no bulges, bumps or cracks (except where characteristic). Inside texture: Tender, elastic, crumb, moist, not doughy. Crust: Golden brown, smooth and tender. Volume: Light, but not airy in proportion to taste. Grain: Fine, thin-walled cells, no air bubbles. Color: Light cream with no light streaks. Flavor: Sweet, nutty, pleasant yeasty smell. After all entries have been judged a small sticker in the shape of a ribbon is placed on the Entry Tag to show off the beautiful art work or food item being displayed. All ribbons that are awarded will be given out on releasing days. JUDGING All judges are chosen for their high qualifications in their field. In competition, the details are all important. They are asked not to judge on individual likes or dislikes, but have standard rules and regulations to judge by. If your entries do not receive an award, it does not mean they are not edible, or in the case of hand work, that they are improperly made. Judges are instructed not to award ribbons unless exhibits are deemed worthy of merit. All foods, with exception of canned meats, vegetables and soups, will be tasted during judging. Items are judged before the final display and judging is not open to the public. Items may be moved after judging to other areas for security or safety. ARTS, CRAFTS, NEEDLE WORK, ETC. 1. Degree of difficulty. 2. Choice of material used, including trim. 3. Workmanship and assemblage. Skill of construction. 4. General appearance and appropriateness. The total look. 5. Creativity. 6.
