1 Language Arts/Reading 9, 10, Lesson Plans Language Arts Comprehend a variety of textual/informational and functional materials. Follow directions in textual/informational and functional materials to produce an outcome. Contrast idioms with literal meanings. Identify directions that are embedded in a passage. Use the organizational structure of printed functional and informational materials. National/Other Standards: Standard 3-Students apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts. Standard 7-Uses reading skills and strategies to understand and interpret a variety of informational texts. Standard 8-Uses listening and speaking strategies for different purposes. Each student will work on Alabama Alternative Assessment extended standards goals in English/Language Arts. Use picture/symbol informational and functional material. Follow directions using picture cues. Follow directions that are embedded in a passage to produce an outcome. Compare the organizational structure of functional and informational materials. Monday: Comprehend a variety of textual/informational and functional materials. Tuesday: Answer questions using tables and charts. Wednesday: Contrast idioms and their literal interpretation. Thursday: Identify persuasive techniques in functional and informational material. Friday: Identify characters attitudes. 5. Extension: How will students apply or extend the learning (homework, research project, writing, etc) Per each student's Individualized Education Plan. Text, find, table, chart, idiom, functional, character, attitude.

2 Social Studies 9, 10, Lesson Plans Social Studies Describe developments in Italy and Northern Europe during the Renaissance period with respect to humanism, arts and literature, intellectual development, increased trade, and advances in technology. Contrast effects of economic, geographic, social, and political conditions before and after European explorations of the fifteenth through seventeenth centuries on Europeans, American colonists, and indigenous Americans. Explain the transition of the United States from an agrarian society to an industrial nation prior to World War I. Compare the development and characteristics of the world s traditional, command, and market economies. Each student will work on Alabama Alternative Assessment extended standards goals in Social Studies. Describe the contributions of the Renaissance with respect to humanism, arts and literature, intellectual development, increased trade, and advances in technology. Explain how European exploration impacted indigenous Americans and American colonists. Identify groups of Western settlers, including areas of conflict and cooperation and trading practices. Explaining how the desire for growth potential, labor supplies, product supplies, and adaptive capability influence a country s choice of economic system. Monday: Use a technological invention i.e. such as a computer, microwave oven, etc. Tuesday: Define war Wednesday: Identify a social issue/concern i.e. Pollution/environmental concerns, racism, etc. Thursday: Define goods and services. Friday: Identify ways people travel in the community, state, country, or world. Technology, war, pollution, environment, goods and services, travel.

3 Science 9, 10, Science Identify the composition of a solution (e.g., components of Kool-Aid, salt water). Identify the purpose of basic scientific instruments (e.g., stopwatch-measure time; thermometer-measure temperature; microscope-view small things; graduated cylinder-measure liquids). Identify ways a plant responds to growing conditions. Identify a simple food chain (e.g., grass gets energy from the sun, grasshoppers from grass, snakes from grasshoppers, and hawks from snakes). National/Other Standards: [S1] PHS (9-12) 7: Relate velocity, acceleration, and kinetic energy to mass, distance, force, and time. [S1] PHY (9-12) 4: Describe quantitative relationships for velocity, acceleration, force, work, power, potential energy, and kinetic energy. [S1] CHE (9-12) 4: Describe solubility in terms of energy changes associated with the solution process. [S1] CHE (9-12) 5: Use the kinetic theory to explain states of matter, phase changes, solubility, and chemical reactions. Each student will work on Alabama Alternative Assessment extended standards goals in Science. Describe what happens when selected solids are mixed with water. Select the appropriate scientific instrument(s) to conduct an experiment. Explain how plant growth responds to changes in the seasons. Describe what can happen when a food chain is interrupted. Monday: Recognize a chemical and a physical change in matter (e.g. chemical- rusting iron, burning wood, cooking eggs; physicalcrushing a can, melting ice). Tuesday: Identify safe laboratory procedures. Wednesday: Identify ways a plant responds to growing conditions. Thursday: Identify ways the environment affects animals in an ecosystem. Friday: Describe the relationship between action and reaction (i.e. for every action there is a reaction). Physical, laboratory safety, plant, grow, environment, ecosystem,

Identify examples of points, lines, and parallel lines. Demonstrate the concept of greater than, less than, and equal to with numbers. Determine the capacity of containers using non-customary units of measure. Each student will work on Alabama Alternative Assessment extended standards goals in Math. Use different combinations of coins and bills to equal a specific dollar amount. Demonstrate the concept of greater than, less than, and equal to using symbols (>, <, =) with numbers. Identify examples of points, lines, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines. Determine the capacity of containers using customary units of measure.. All learning modes will be utilized. Will utilize technology such as the Promethean board to address all learning styles. Monday: Represent functional relationships by solving number sentences (e.g = 5 + or 8 + = 12, and 5 + = 12). Tuesday: Determine perimeter of a rectangle, triangle and square when given the dimensions. Wednesday: Demonstrate knowledge of properties of geometric shapes by displaying the most efficient way of placing shapes into a given space. Thursday: Compare the perimeter of 3 areas when given the dimensions. Friday: Identify examples of points, lines and parallel lines. Relationships, perimeter, geometric, area, point, line
