6 ABSTRACT The focus of this study is the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on student course registration and result compilation in Library and Information Technology Department, Federal University of Technology Minna. The purpose of the study is to identify the contributions of ICT to the development of the existing system of students record management among others. Survey research design was adopted in this research work using questionnaire and interview as a method of data collection. The questionnaire was administered to 110 respondents consisting of 10 academic staff and 100 students of the Department of Library and Information Technology. Out of the 110 questionnaires administered, only 90 were properly filled, returned and used for the study. The data collected were analysed using frequency counts and simple percentages and tables were provided where necessary. The findings revealed that ICT facilities can help improve students record management. It is equally revealed that automation can solve the problems regarding student record management and can be used for present and future application. The findings also revealed that the students and academic staff of the department are not satisfied with the existing system of students record management because it is too slow and easily subjected to human error. However, the study also revealed lack of competent staff/skilled manpower and lack of constant electricity supply/standby generator are the major factor militating against the adoption of facilities. The solutions to those factors militating against the adoption of facilities were also identified. It was recommended that automation of students record should be approved by the epartment and adequate ICT facilities should be provided for the automation. It was also recommended that the academic staff in the department should be adequately trained on the use of the automated system of student record management.
