ICMT offers a forum to discuss state-of-the-art technologies and emerging application trends, and provides great opportunities for professional interactions and networking in a friendly and hospitable setting. The first ICMT was convened in Santa Clara, USA, in 1996, and subsequently in Yokohama, Hsinchu, Pusan, Singapore, Kitakyushu, Taiwan, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Mexico City, Ulsan, Sudbury, Cebu City, Osaka, Melbourne, Tianjin, Jeju Island, Taiwan, Tokyo, Dalian, and Hochiminh City. 3 SPONSORS Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) was established in 1957 and has been recognized as a center of excellence among technological universities in Vietnam. Prior to the country reunification in 1975, the university was the only institution to produce engineers in the Southern Vietnam. Website: After 11 years of development, as one of the only three national hi-tech parks and one of Ho Chi Minh City's five focal projects serving as the driving force for the city's development until 2015, Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) has become a trustworthy destination for hi-tech investment in Vietnam. Located in District 9 of Ho Chi Minh City, SHTP was established on October 24, 2002 by the Government on an area of 913 hectares. Website: Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City was founded on 27 January 1995 by government decree 16/CP on the merging of prestigious universities in Ho Chi Minh City. On February 12th, 2001, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai signed a Decision no. 15/2001/QĐ-TTg on the reorganization of this university system. 5 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Associate Professor Tan Tien Nguyen Keynote Speech Title: "The Development of Mechatronics Technology in Vietnam: Current Status and Trends" Biography: Dr. Tan Tien Nguyen was born in Vietnam on June 29, He received the B.S at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Hochiminh City University of Technology, Vietnam in He received MS. Degree and Ph. D degree at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Pukyong National University, Pusan, Korea in August, 1998 and August, Currently, he is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam. His fields of interest are Robust Control, Nonlinear Control, Welding Automation Process Control and Automation in Industry. Professor Okyay Kaynak Keynote Speech Title: 1. "Mechatronics in 21st Century" 2. "How to Write Good Technical Papers" Biography: Okyay Kaynak received the B.Sc. (first-class honors) and Ph.D. degrees in electronic and electrical engineering from the University of Birmingham, Birmingham, U.K., in 1969 and 1972, respectively. From 1972 to 1979, he held various positions within the industry that included 3.5 years in Saudi Arabia, working as a project engineer. In 1979, he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. He has served as the Chairman of the Computer Engineering and the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Departments and as the Director of Biomedical Engineering Institute at this university. He has hold long-term (near to or more than a year) Visiting Professor/Scholar positions at various institutions in Japan, Germany, U.S., Singapore and China. He has recently been awarded the prestigious 1000 People Program professorship at Harbin Institute of Technology, China. His current research interests are in the fields of intelligent control and mechatronics. He has authored three books, edited five and authored or coauthored more than 400 papers that have appeared in various journals, books and conference proceedings. Dr. Kaynak is a fellow of IEEE. He is or has served on the Editorial or Advisory Boards of a number of scholarly journals. He was the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE/ASME Trans. on Mechatronics during Dr. Kaynak is active in international organizations, has served on many committees of IEEE and was the president of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society during He received IEEE Third Millennium Medal (2001), IEEE/IES Anthony J. Hornfeck Service Award (2005) and IEEE/IES Dr.-Ing. Eugene Mittelman Achievement Award (2011). Most recently, he has received the China Friendship Award (2016) and Humboldt Research Prize (2016). v

6 Professor Makoto Iwasaki Keynote Speech Title: Robust Full-Closed Control-Based Vibration Suppression for Positioning Devices with Strain Wave Gearings Biography: Makoto Iwasaki received the B.S., M.S., and Dr. Eng. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan, in 1986, 1988, and 1991, respectively. Since 1991, he has been with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology, where he is currently a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. He was a Japanese government Research Fellow with the Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany, from 1997 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2003, and with the Technical University of Munich, Munich, Germany, from 1997 to As professional society contributions of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), he has been an elected Administrative Committee (AdCom) member of IEEE/Industrial Electronics Society (IES) in term of 2010 to 2019, a Technical Editor for IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics (TMech) from 2010 to 2014, an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (TIE) since 2014, a chair of Technical Committee on Motion Control of IEEE/IES ( ), a Management Committee member of IEEE/ASME TMech (Secretary in 2016 and Treasurer in 2017), and a Co-Editors-in-Chief for IEEE TIE since 2016, respectively. He has contributed as many committee members for IEEE/IES-sponsored conferences, such as a general co-chair of IEEE/IES ICM2014-Nagoya. He is IEEE fellow class 2015 for "contributions to fast and precise positioning in motion controller design". He has received the Best Paper Award of Trans of IEE Japan in 2013, the Best Paper Award of Fanuc FA Robot Foundation in 2011, and the Best Paper Award of IEE Japan Trans on Industry Applications in 2010, respectively. His current research interests are the applications of control theories to linear/nonlinear modeling and precision positioning, through various collaborative research activities with industries. Professor Sang Bong Kim Keynote Speech Title: "MIMO Robust Servo Controller Design Using Polynomial Differential Operator" Biography: Dr. Kim received his Bachelor/Master degrees of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Pukyong National University, Korea, in 1978/1980 and Doctor of Engineering in Control Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, 1988, respectively. He has served as a professor of the Department of Mechanical Automotive Engineering of Pukyong National University(PKNU), Korea. His current interests are in the field of Mobile Robots, Manipulators and Sensorless Vector Control of Inverter, etc. He has published more than 600 papers appeared in various journals and international conference proceedings. vi

Assistant Professor Quang Truong Dinh Keynote Speech Title: "Sustainable Vehicle Technologies: A Research and Development Perspective" Biography: Associate Professor Quang Truong Dinh, Assistant Professor in Energy Management and System Control, Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK. Dr. Quang Truong Dinh received the B.Eng. degree in Mechatronics from Hochiminh City University of Technology, Hochiminh, Vietnam, in 2006 and the D.Eng. degree in Mechatronics from University of Ulsan, Ulsan, Korea in With the University of Ulsan, he took a Post- Doctoral Research Fellow position in and then a Research Professor position in He has joined the WMG University of Warwick from Before being promoted to the Assistant Professor in Energy Management and System Control, he was a Research Fellow and a Senior Research Fellow in WMG in and , respectively. He has done extensive research in the areas of control theories and applications, fluid power control systems, energy saving and power management systems, low carbon technologies for transports and construction sectors, and smart sensors and actuators. He has published more than 50 articles at high quality journals, 70 conference papers, 2 book chapters and 3 patents. He has received a number of awards, including the Best Student Paper Award (ICCAS 2007), the SICE International Scholarship Award and Finalist Awards (ICCAS-SICE 2009), the Best Conference Paper for A Young Researcher Award (ICMT 2009), the Best Conference Paper for Outstanding Paper Award (ICCAS 2010), and the Best Conference Paper for Outstanding Paper Award (ICCAS 2015).
