This unit will focus on the Mayan civilisation. We will learn about the monumental buildings and characteristic stepped pyramids. In addition, we will study Mayan use of mathematics and the accuracy of their calendar. In this exciting new topic, children will learn all about the geography of Spain: from human geography (such as learning about Spain s demographics) to physical geography (learning about the rivers, mountain ranges, borders of the country) we will all be experts by the end! This term we will be learning about the changing power of monarchs. This will link with our key text: The Photo Album, where photos of different times are discovered. During Term 5, the science topic of electricity including circuits will be our main focus. This will link well with our ICT unit of instructions, where we will program lights to go on and off. Venice, canals and water in general will be our focus this term. We will have the opportunity to study rivers, launched on our residential trip to Simonsbath Outdoor Centre. 5 Science Biology: Classification including micro-organisms describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including micro-organisms, plants and animals give reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics. Physics: Light and Shadows; the eye recognise that light appears to travel in straight lines use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye explain that we see things because light travels from light sources to our eyes or from light sources to objects and then to our eyes use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.
