1 SOUTH PUGET SOUND WOODTURNERS SPSW Chips & Shavings November - Larry Taylor LARRY TAYLOR Larry spent 40 years as a printmaker, hand printing (etching, serigraphs and lithography) limited editions for artists. Looking for some relaxation, about 25 years ago he bought a cheap lathe, and returned to the turning he loved in High School. It has been downhill ever since. Larry is currently owned by a 2436 Oneway. Larry has been selling at the Olympia Farmers Market for 11 years. He has learned that what most would consider production turning has allowed him to improve his skills to the passable level. Always willing to push boundaries, he has concluded that there are only two rules for his turning: Be safe, and have fun. It is that time of year again to renew your membership. Membership is still only $35 for the whole family. The money we get from the annual membership is the largest portion of our annual funds It pays for hall rental, equipment, and a myriad of other requirements during the year. Membership gives you great demonstrations, mentors to help you improve your turning skills, the Sawdust Sessions, your newsletter, and a fantastic website. You can pay your membership at the meeting by cash, check, or credit card. Or, you can pay online using PayPal. While you are at it you should also consider joining the AAW. Their magazine alone is worth the price of the membership. 2 Pg. 2 Letter from the President Thanks to the Veterans As I sit to write this note for the newsletter it is only a few days till Veterans Day. We take this day to say Thank You and show each veteran the respect that every member of the service deserves. Let us not forget their dedication and sacrifices, nor the burdens endured by the spouses and families of our brave service men and women. November is the month that we introduce the members that will be serving on the BOD for 2016 with your approval. I was recently asked if a new member could be on the board. I told the person that of course they can, there is no minimum time to be eligible and that new members often bring great new ideas and energy that help keep the club moving forward. Speaking of forward momentum, have you noticed all the latest and greatest improvements to our spswoodturners.org and the expanded library that features countless books and thousands of videos covering every aspect of woodturning. A big thanks to Tim Spaulding and John Jacobs for all their hard work. Hopefully my wife will understand that I was doing research for the last 2 hours instead of cleaning house like I promised. Dues for 2016 are being collected and remain at the low price of $35 or less than 10 cents a day. Only 2 more months remain to buy the winning ticket to our 18 Rikon band saw raffle. Setup and delivery are included. Be safe, make shavings and have fun! See you on the 19 th Pat Raffle We have been gifted a Rikon bandsaw. The Rikon is an 18-Inch bandsaw driven by a 2-1/2-horsepower, 220-volt motor. It has cast iron wheels. We have started a raffle for it. We will also be inviting other clubs to participate in the raffle.
