3 January Club Report At least 36 people enjoyed a pleasant Sunday at our January club meeting as Wisconsin's frigid weather departed negativity for an afternoon high of 25 F. Show 'n Tell had William Tuscherer showing two woodburned blocks for the friendship canes. Ahmad Pima's beautiful bluegill was completed during Dick Christianson's recent class. Cedric Richeson finally finished a carving - a stick sampler of classic whittling items. Jim Golke caricatured a hungover cowpoke. David Dalke had an amazing turtle dove on a carving of a Bible. Keith Melzer showed a very interesting carved and burned gourd with an oak leaf design.

4 Chippers Club Classes - Features & Benefits Mid - Wis. Chippers Club sponsored and Board approved, carving classes commit to the artistteacher that the club will make the agreed minimum enrollment. This commitment helps bring top caliber teachers to our club. Students benefit by planning their schedules with confidence. Early enrollment helps the instructor plan for the number of cutouts needed. The Club Board frequently offers a scholarship rebate to Chipper Club members in good standing who attend a scholarship authorized, club sponsored carving course. The scholarship amount is decided in advance by the Board for each authorized course. This is one of many club benefits. Betsy Popp Classes Preview Betsy Popp showed models and answered questions about her Bluebird, Fox and Otter classes.

5 Greg Miller 's Habitat Presentation Greg Miller brought his award winning bark carving to our January meeting. Several techniques for constructing habitats were shown including using vinegar/steel wool to simulate aged wood without paint and a plaster rock casting and painting technique. Greg's list of resources is appended to this newsletter. William Tuscherer Wins 1st Place Ribbon in Florida Congratulations to William Tuscherer, who won a first place, blue ribbon in the Masters Class at the Florida Winter National Wood Art Expo for "Halloween Buck." In addition to being Club Treasurer, the talented Tuscherer will be exhibiting his pyrographic art this April at the Mid-Wisconsin Chippers 44th Annual Show, Sale & Exhibition in New London, Wisconsin.

Send your show registration to Paul Wolters, 1273 Meadow Lane, Neenah, WI The Bucket Raffle Friendship Cane Pick up your block at the meeting! Two friendship cane raffle prizes are being constructed with your blocks. "Cane Omega" is an open category. The early returns are giving this cane star power! One block has Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Depp, John Wayne, and Elvis Presley. "Cane Alpha" has a theme: Fur, Fish, Feather, Flora. Choose one, two, three or all 4 for your block! These unique raffle prizes are a big fundraiser for the club! Your club appreciates each member's contribution to these friendship canes. Completed cane blocks should be turned in to William Tuscherer by March 4th so they may be assembled into the final canes. We love to see them at Show 'n Tell too, so don't be shy.
