1 PERSONLIZTION GUIDE PURPOSE t Initials, Inc., we recognize the uniqueness of each individual and each life journey they are all different just as they should be! We want our products, and your personalization, to represent each person s story in a special way. nd, with FREE personalization our Creative Partners have a unique gift to offer every customer, and every customer has a unique opportunity to create something all their own! We take great pride in the fact that even our company name tells the world what will look best on their product Initials, Inc. our products have been specifically designed to look best when representing an individual s initials (Single Initial or Monogram). However, as we expand our life stories, there are personalization requests that may involve more than a Single Initial or Monogram maybe a family last name, nickname, phrase, quote, sports team, etc. We love seeing the enthusiasm to bring every area of who you and your customers are to life on a personalized product. nd we love that we offer FREE personalization too! WHT PERSONLIZTION LOOKS THE BEST ON N INITILS, INC. PRODUCT? We have found the best personalization is a single initial or monogram. These typically scale a bit larger and are more visible on the product. However, on certain products you can also choose a 1 Line or 2 Line personalization, and on select products you can add an Icon for $7! The options are endless and the process is fun! There are endless opportunities to enjoy our FREE personalization and there are areas that we want to call special attention to so you and your customers can make the best selection for your personalized product. Initials, Inc. Spring & Summer
2 WILL LL PERSONLIZTION REQUESTS BE FULFILLED? There are legal and policy related reasons why we cannot fulfill certain personalization requests. We cannot personalize with trademark text that has been registered with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Trademark and/or copyright infringement can occur when someone uses a term or phrase that causes confusion with a registered trademark. If you have specific questions around potentially trademarked or copyrighted personalization selections we suggest you check the United States Patent & Trademark Office at: The trademark will be listed as LIVE if it is live and CNNOT be used, or DED if is no longer in use and CN be used. Please ensure you are checking all pages of this link as it may appear to be DED and listed on a subsequent page as LIVE. If it is noted as LIVE on any page it CNNOT be used. Please note that this website is updated daily so something may be DED today and LIVE tomorrow as trademarks are continually updated. This process is outside of our control. gain, we are not permitted legally to produce a known registered trademark which is why we suggest staying with a single initial or monogram as they are how our products look best. SPECIFIC TYPES OF PERSONLIZTION THT RE NOT PERMITTED: 1. FMOUS TRDEMRKS Trademarks which are known for other companies or other direct selling companies. For Example: Coke, Nike, von, Mary Kay, etc. are NOT permitted. 2. FMOUS PERSONL NMES The names, nicknames or associated indicators of famous athletes, actors, characters or celebrities should be avoided unless this is the name of the ordering Customer. For Example: Lady Gaga, Sting, Tom Cruise, etc. are NOT permitted. 3. COLLEGITE & PROFESSIONL SPORTS Team and school names if it clearly refers to a professional or collegiate athletic team. For Example: Georgia Bulldogs, Roll Tide, Boston Red Sox, Miami Dolphins, etc. are NOT permitted. Sports team personalization is permitted if the use refers to an amateur sports team. For Example: Bulldog Nation, Tigers, Grayson Panthers, Go Raiders, etc. RE permitted. 4. SSOCITIONS & INSTITUTIONS ssociations and institutions control the use of their names through licensing agreements and monitor for trademark infringements. We must be careful when a personalization request includes the name of an association or institution. For Example: Harvard, Phi Mu (sorority), DS (Direct Selling ssociation), etc. are NOT permitted 5. VULGRITIES Obvious vulgarities or acronyms for phrases containing vulgarity that are objectionable to the values of Initials, Inc. are prohibited. The acronym would be allowed if it is genuinely the initials of the customer named on the order. *If a product is ordered and represents a personalization type that is prohibited it will ship blank. The customer will be allowed to choose another personalization option and return the item to Initials, Inc. for personalization at their expense. Initials, Inc. Spring & Summer
3 We all want to ensure your customer s personalization choice will look nice on the product they selected. lthough our products have been specifically designed to look best when representing an individual s initials (single initial or monogram), we also provide additional personalization options. There are a few things you will want to take into consideration when selecting personalization: SIZE CLSSIFICTIONS Initials, Inc. has 5 product size classifications which determines the personalization area, or the space, in which we can personalize (embroider) a particular product. The 5 categories are: 1. SMLL 4. X- LRGE 2. MEDIUM 5. OTHER 3. LRGE Once you have identified the size of the product s area that can be personalized, consider the personalization that will look the best. Then, select the font that will look best for your size product. Be sure to consider the thickness of each letter on the print you ve selected. Thicker fonts are more legible on busy prints, and thin fonts can dazzle on a solid color. Lastly, decide on the thread color that creates the look you are striving for: monochromatic, dramatic, etc. SPECIL CHRCTERS Some fonts feature their own special characters. Others rely on the default special characters listed in the catalog. Special characters are not with monograms, and are limited to what is shown in the catalog. ICONS ll icons (except Family Crest) measure 3.5 H. Family Crest icon measures 3.75 H. Icons require a 1 Line personalization style. 1 LINE VRITIONS Letters matter in personalization. Even in our 1 Line personalization, results can vary...a lot! From the font you select, to the individual letters you choose, it all makes a difference. Be sure to review each letter in your selected font so you know you re choosing a personalization you ll love! FONTS In this example using the font Frilly, you can see how a simple name can look very different based on upper or lower case letters. Kelly Kelli kelli KELLI DESCENDERS Letters that descend below a baseline are called descenders and can impact the way your personalization fills the space. Most of the time (but not always) a descender (like f, g, j, p, q, y, and z) causes your personalization to get smaller. va Baxter aronmichael Mya delyn Chesterfield 1 LINE VS. 2 LINE The personalization area is different for 1 Line and 2 Line, and can impact the way your personalization appears. nabelle nabelle Caroline WILLIMS þ PERMITTED ý NOT PERMITTED 1 LETTER VS. 1 LINE The personalization area is different for 1 letter and 1 line, and can impact the way your personalization appears. CHRCTER WIDTH Characters are automatically sized and centered by their overall width. Some letters like F, K, L, J, R & P can appear off-center because the character is assymetrical, or not evenly balanced on each side. SYMMETRICL Evenly balanced on left and right SYMMETRICL Unevenly balanced on left and right SYMMETRICL Evenly balanced on left and right SYMMETRICL Unevenly balanced on left and right Initials, Inc.
