c Let It Be Toled Prescott AZ Chapter An affiliated chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters Volume 21, Issue 4 April 2019 Just remember, April showers brings May flowers. April is also Easter time and the Easter bunny. April reminds me of spring and soft colors and the fields full of wild flowers. We have six backpacks painted so far. We have had many members working on the center piece and the backpacks for SDP. It is a wonderful to see so many members pitching in to paint these. Thank you Judy for a wonderful Paint In. Not only did we practice strokes but we were able to paint two pieces and get them done. Everyone did a beautiful job. We did miss a few of our members and hope to see you soon. Don t forget our charities: Memory Boxes and SVdP. Sincerely, your president, Pat Kaminsky

The project can be viewed on our website Contact Sherry Cooke-Hurm for more information and to sign up. The meetings begin at 10:00 am and are on the first Saturday of each month with a number of exceptions. They are held at Mountain Artists Guild, 228 N. Alarcon, Prescott. Paint-ins follow the meetings and cost only $5.00. Happy Birthday to Our April Gal Kate Toth April 11 To wish you a year of happy days and a world of good cheer, too, because it s your birthday and because you re you! Birthday Raffle: This is a monthly fundraising raffle so please paint something to auction. Refreshments are provided by birthday girls and all who wish to contribute goodies.

CALENDAR AT A GLANCE 2019 April 6 May 4 June 8 & 9 (2 nd Sat Sun) July 13 (2nd Sat) August 3 September 7 October 12 (2nd Sat) November 2 December 15 (SUNDAY 1:00pm) Easter Egg Exchange and Chickens and Flowers on Percolators taught by Bonnie Dominguez Flowers taught by Cheryl Jacobson Seminar and Potluck with Karen Hubbard Potluck and Colored Pencil Parrot taught by Sharon Carlson Potluck and Colored Pencil Iris taught by Pat Kaminsky Lunch Box Auction & Cross taught by Judy Lopez Fall Design taught by Judy Lopez Ornaments taught by Marcia Mallicoat and Jody Glaser Christmas Party and Ornament Exchange Exchanges Share your amazing talent! We have two more exchanges this year Easter and Christmas. Easter exchange needs to be on an egg shape and will be in April. Christmas is an ornament to exchange at the Christmas Party in Decmber.

THE MARCH PAINT-IN WAS ALL ABOUT STROKEWORK The March Paint in was a focus on strokework. We focused on strokes with a #4 round brush. We practiced many, many strokes on tracing paper before we moved on to the actual projects. Yes, two projects! The first was Spring Strokes by Jamie Mills Price and Judy Lopez. A blended background that featured daisies and a rose. The second was an ornament. Pinecones by Lori Larkey, taught by Judy Lopez. We learned how to use soft strokes to create the curves of the pinecones. The realistic pine needles surrounding the pinecones made it complete. And a little sparkle for snow! There were eight artists in attendance. Which was amazing, since many of them had only just returned the night before from the Las Vegas Painting Convention! Everyone did a great job! The artists were rewarded with wonderful baked goods.

PAINT-INS APRIL The April paint-in will be Spring Birds and Flowers on a percolator taught by Bonnie Dominquez designed by Shara Reiner. MAY The May paint-in will be flowers designed by Sandy Aubuchon taught by Cheryl Jacobson. The surface is 6 wide x 14 tall including the routed edge with the painting area being 5 ¼ x 11 ¼ and is available at Michaels (use your 40% coupon), or a surface of your choice. If your piece is taller than 14, there is a pattern available for a larger piece. Cost for supplies is $5 to cover the cost of a special brush to be used on the project which Cheryl will order and have for you in May.

SILENT AUCTION The Silent Auction was a clip board with a real cutie on it painted by Marcia Mallicoat. The lucky winner was Pat! Those signed-up thus far: April May July August September October November Bonnie Dominguez Jo Pruett Cheryl Jacobson Jody Glaser Bev Morn Sandy Smith Tava Ekstrom-Lang

OUR FIFTH ANNUAL FUNDRAISERS! We will be at St. Germaine s again this year and probably do two others. Keep tuned and when we get dates and times, we ll let you know. Some have already begun painting and we need everyone to paint for it. So get those brushes moving! Items completed in March:

LIBT will be hosting a seminar with Karen Hubbard on Saturday and Sunday, June 8 & 9, :30 am 4:00 pm At Mountain Artists Guild 228 N. Alarcon Street, Prescott, AZ Please arrive at 9am, as teaching starts at 9:30pm. Cost for each day will be $40.00 with no additional cost for non-members. Hi, for this year s seminar we are fortunate to have Karen Hubbard teaching us two of her designs. You don't want to wait long to sign up for this exciting seminar. We have 10 signups already and space for only 20. The Saturday project is also a brand new design of Karen's never taught before. It is a cute white squirrel on a 10" plate with a pinecone trim all around the rim. We will be ordering the plates for those who want them for $ each, this order needs to be placed on March 4th. The Sunday project is called Moss Raccoon design which can be viewed on Karen's website, Hubbard s Cupboard. I will know surface size needed after Las Vegas Convention. I will be receiving the samples of these two pieces at the Las Vegas Convention from Karen to show and obtain better pictures that will then be updated on the website when I return. For now the pictures shown below are what I have. Pot Luck each day. Water and snacks provided by LIBT Any questions or call me- Bev Morn Seminar Chair Karen Hubbard s Bio: I have always been interested in art and drew and painted a lot as a child, even taking painting classes at the age of 10. I began painting in my 20s, then took 10 years off to raise three daughters, returned to painting in 1974 and haven t stopped since. I painted mostly with oils to begin with, then gradually began to work with acrylics. I wanted to be

able to paint very realistic wildlife and developed my now well-known technique for painting fur and feathers, using a round pure sable brush. I generally paint on very smooth surfaces such as wood or Masonite. In 1988, I earned my CDA (Certified Decorative Artist) certificate from the National Society of Decorative Painters. I have taught at conventions and seminars extensively in the US and Canada and Japan, New Zealand, England and Italy for more than 30 ears, have won many Blue Ribbons and honors with my paintings. I live in Eugene Oregon. Karen Hubbard Saturday Sunday

The lucky winner of the brush in March was Judy! Show and Tell Pat shared beautiful pieces she painted with acrylics and colored pencils. Show and Tell Las Vegas Convention These are pieces from classes Jo took at the Las Vegas Convention. She will bring them in again after they are completed. This was her first time there and she did awesome!

These are the pieces from classes Pat took at the convention. They are exquisitely done and she got them all completed in class! These are the pieces from classes Jody took at the convention. They are beautifully painted as far as she got in class. She will bring them in again after they are completed.

All but the stocking on the right are pieces Judy Lopez painted in Vegas. They are strikingly done. The stocking is a piece she shared to show how stoke work can be used. The others that went to Vegas, Bev, Sandy and Cheryl, will bring in their pieces as they are completed. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CHARITY Thanks to all of you who have contributed to our charity and keep the food coming! Helping feed people in need is such a worthy cause. SOCIETY OF DECORATIVE PAINTERS PROJECTS SDP has asked Chapters to paint back packs for underprivileged children and to design and paint a centerpiece for a table at their convention. Pat and Sandy brought in backpacks they painted. Pat s backpacks Sandy s and Pat s backpacks
