1 MOORESVILLE CENTERPIECE QUILTERS 2016 Issue 1 January 2016 The Mooresville Centerpiece Quilters Guild meets the second Monday of each month, at 10:00 a.m., at the South Iredell Senior Center, 202 North Church St., Mooresville, NC (lower level of the Charles Mack Citizen Center) MCQG Mailing Address: P.O. Box 852, Mooresville, NC MCQG Blog Address: From our President Good Morning Quilters! Like many of us, I had company this past week. I had to move all my quilts, finished and unfinished, off one of the guest beds. It reminded me that I still have five quilt tops that need quilting. Being piled on top of one another, they have gotten lost! I also used my cutting table for wrapping packages since it is just the right height. I have now put away paper, ribbon, and fabric that has been on the table a clean slate for a new year. Hopefully, I can get at least one of those five quilt tops quilted. How about you? What is on your agenda for quilting in 2016? Happy New Year, Diana P.S. Please note that our Guild mailing address has changed as we have a new post office box. Thanks, Jean Cable jean.quilts@yahoo.com Comfort Quilts Our first 2016 workday will be Monday, January 25 th. The project for the day will be adapted from a novel by Carol Dean Jones, The Rescue Quilt. If you have small, fancy-cut fabrics of animals, please bring them; the other fabrics will be supplied by the Guild. The prints for this can be any kind of animal, and not limited to dogs. We will try to supply individual block kits rather than top kits for this project. Happy New Year 2016 wishing you happiness and good health along with many hours of enjoyable sewing. Looking forward to sharing workdays with you all, Pat B.

3 January 2016 Mooresville Centerpiece Quilters Page 3 MCQG 2016 Quilt Show The dates are set for our 2016 Quilt Show! It will be held Friday and Saturday, October 28 th and 29 th, 2016, with set-up on Thursday, October 27 th. The location once again is the Talbert Recreation Center at 210 Talbert Pointe Drive, Mooresville, NC We will have our first committee chair meeting following our January Guild meeting. Please make every effort to attend, and bring your lunch so we can start the meeting as soon as possible. Starting in January, some supplies and fabric to use for making boutique items will be available at Sew & Sews, the third Monday of the month. Following are the rules for our sweatshirt project, which was introduced at a recent guild meeting:. It has to have been made in the past four years.. You may cover/embellish the sweatshirt as much as you wish, but the fabric must be cotton and the sweatshirt must show as the lining. It can be a jacket or pullover style. I will start working on drafting the patterns for our special project (also introduced at a recent meeting): They Couldn t Vote, They Got the Vote, You Should Vote. As soon as the kits are ready, I will pass them out. They will each be one block and there are 24 blocks. More information on this later. A special display will be antique or special types of sewing machines and supplies used for sewing and quilting. If anyone has anything we can use, please let me know. After our January meeting, the rules and due dates will be ready for distribution to members. When you get them, please read them carefully and take note of the due dates; no late entries will be accepted. And please return your completed forms as soon as possible to make it easier for our chairwomen and their committees to prepare for quilt show set-up. Thanks so much, Barbara Howard P.S. Quilt Show Committee Chairs: Please don t forget our first Quilt Show planning meeting following the January 11 th Guild meeting. Bring your lunch so we can get started ASAP! Membership Thank you to everyone who turned in their membership renewal forms at the Christmas Luncheon (and what a great party!) You still have January and February to turn in your membership form and your $20 (cash, or check made out to MCQG ), to be included in the new Handbook. I will be doing some calling in January to make sure no one is missed. Remember, you can also mail a completed form and check, to me only (address below) or call me at home or on my cell any time if you have any questions. A form is once again included with the ed version of this newsletter, which you are asked to fill out completely and legibly so we have current and correct information for all members. Many thanks, Sandy Bruce 135 Sandreed Drive, Mooresville, NC Phone: or (cell) Busy Bees We did not have a workday during the month of December but instead enjoyed a very nice lunch and great fellowship at Pomodoro s Restaurant. This seems to be the time of year when we think of those who make our jobs easier. On that note, I would like to extend a huge thank-you to those who attend Busy Bees regularly and make quilts for the Special Needs Nursery at Lake Normal Regional Medical Center: Thanks to Dorothy, Barbara H., Kathy M., Hazel, Kathie S., Cathie S., and Marie -- and one member who doesn t attend workdays but contributes regularly to our stock: thank you, Judy C.!!! And finally, a special thankyou to Cathie Solomonson, who washes, labels, and delivers the quilts to the Nursery. Without all of your contributions, we would not be able to carry out this worthy cause. Please remember that kits are available at each Guild meeting, which you may pick up and return completed over the next month or two. Kits vary in design, quilting requirements, etc., so you will be sure to find something you like. Looking forward to another successful year!!, Carol Benson
