4 FREE Family Movie Night - Friday, February Waukee Elementary Featuring - Monsters University Feel Free to bring a blanket & wear your PJs & slippers!!! Doors Will 6:15 pm Previews & Movie will 6:30 pm Complimentary Refreshments Provided ~ Sponsored by WE/VMLC PTO News From Nurse Kim in The Health Office Nurse Kim requests parent assistance: It has come to my attention recently that there is a lot of conversation about head lice in our building. My request to all of you is to please go through the proper channels and notify your child's teacher and the nurse of head lice occurrences so that we can do our part to keep track of the number of cases and notify all parents as needed when we are aware of multiple cases in a short period of time at a particular grade level. Thank you! The nurse s office door is always open for donations of Kleenex, Cough Drops, new or gently used underwear and clothes, especially shorts, pants and belts. All sizes are needed. VMLC could really use donations of children's acetaminophen and ibuprofen products, as well as cough drops. Thank you for helping us keep the shelves stocked! There have been several cases of head lice reported at Waukee Elementary and Vince Meyer Learning Center since the start of the school year. While information provided to the school

5 nurse is posted to the WCSD Health Blog site for parent viewing and increased awareness, we assume many cases go unreported or even unidentified. Please be aware that head lice are a community problem, and are present wherever people gather. There should be regular assessment of family members for lice presence, with extra vigilance at times of known incidences. Your child does not need to stay home during treatment, but all children should be reminded NOT to share hats, hair accessories, combs or brushes, coats, etc., at any time, but especially with known presence of head lice. Children should be treated with an appropriate product ONLY if live head lice are identified on them, and then follow-up checks-- and treatment if necessary--must be done until the child is free of all live lice, and any nits that are within 1/2 inch of the scalp are removed. With cooler weather and the increased use of hats we are attempting to make families aware so that their members can be checked carefully in the home environment and treated if necessary, with appropriate continued care and monitoring until the child is totally clean. If there are concerns with locker sharing and mixing of head gear and other items, feel free to send a garbage bag or other large bag that your child can put his/her coat, hat, etc., into while not in use. Don't hesitate to call or with any questions or concerns. I can provide information as needed, and also may have coupons available for some products to help defray cost. Head lice information and care/treatment tips are available on my blog site, as well. From the WE web page, click on "Staff", then click on the "Blog" link next to my name.
