There, we learned about a bunch of different birds and even saw a turtle pond! We learned about rehabitization and what steps and precautions the staff have to take to make sure that the animals can transition back into the wild safely and progress there too. Learning about these things was really cool and it was a great experience. Even though I was bait to bugs, it was worth it! Til the next one, Bucs!
2 Buccaneers Win First Home Game By John Grimesey The HOB Buccaneers completed a sweep of Sigsbee Charter Tuesday night with a rather thrilling win in the girls game that was followed by a slightly more routine matchup resulting in a win for the boys. On the girls side, a layup by Olivia Gibson gave Sigsbee a lead with just over three minutes to play. The Bucs handled the pressure, however, by scoring the last eight points and taking the victory. The Bucs were led by Trecia Whetstone, who dominated inside play and ended the game with 12 points. Please let me know if you have any questions! erin.heil@keysschools.com ex The boys used heavy defensive pressure by guard Jamari Walker to take an early lead and held on throughout. Andy Desir led the way with 16 points and matched up well against Sailfish big man Andre Ottoa standout Buccaneer on the football field. Both the boys and girls will be on the home court again this Saturday starting with the girls game at noon with the boys following afterward. Key Largo School will be the opponent. KLS will then play Sigsbee in the HOB gym to complete a full afternoon of quality basketball encompassing four games. The concession stand will be open and the Buccaneer Grill will be activated providing burgers and dogs during all games.
3 Students Rewarded for Participation in Fall Reading Challenge Stay tuned for details about the Winter Break Reading Challenge coming soon! The History of Hanukkah By Ocean Coulson and Keona Gerwig HOB Jackets With Key West temperatures dropping, students are reminded to wear the school uniform at all times. HOB logo hooded jackets are available at Ramona s Conch Creations for $20.00 (without a zipper) or $22.00 (with a zipper). They are available in most of the uniform colors and are the only jacket allowed at HOB. Hoods should not be worn in the school building. The classrooms can be cold even in the fall and spring months, so please purchase your jacket early in the year. No other jacket may be worn. Polar Pals Gift Shop By: Ariana Martin and Nathalie Espinoza Every year the Jewish community converges to celebrate the holiday of giving, and the commemoration of the Second Temple of Jerusalem who rose up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors of Seleucid Empire in the Maccabean Revolt, brave enough to have their tale passed on through Jewish legend: Hanukkah. The holiday is observed each year, according to the Hebrew calendar. Hanukkah beings on the 25th day of the third month, referred to as Kislev. The celebrations last for eight days. This year, Hanukkah began on December 2nd and ends tonight, December 10th. Throughout the course of the eight days, participants of the holiday light one candle of the nine present on the menorah, every day. Alongside this, each day after lighting a candle they would get some sort of present or object. This is a special holiday filled with lots of meaning and emotion. The Polar Pals Gift Shop is a place for kids to buy gifts for other people or themselves at school. Middle school students can go every morning before school and Thursday during recess/lunch. Elementary students can go with their class during their regular Art class. Students have to bring actual money to the shop. Items cost between $1-$18. There are lots of gifts like toys, pens, putty, jewelry, pillows, etc. This all starts on Monday, December 10th in Mrs. Goins s room, So come to the Polar Pals Gift Shop December 10th and find something to make someone smile!
