2 Those looking for something new among the abundance of minimalist luminaires on the market will be enthusiastic about HELIODISC. It boasts refreshingly different looks, both in terms of size and design: everything previously purist and reduced now catches people s eyes, inspiring their fully transparent imagination. Metal is replaced by translucent materials. In terms of lighting technology and application, too, Zumtobel is causing a stir in the monotonous world of office luminaires. Fitted with four light sources, the TASK AREA luminaire is clearly a de-luxe model. It is designed to provide state-of-the-art task area-related office lighting of a different kind.

DESIGN HELIODISC HADI TEHERANI AG With HELIODISC we have implemented the concept of a versatile lighting module to give architects and interior designers maximum possible design and creative freedom. Six linear luminaires are replaced by one sun providing the same lighting quality. This increases both the technical and architectural scope. The artificial solar disk is a sensuous lighting object, satisfying people s emotional needs as well. HELIODISC was designed by Hadi Teherani in collaboration with Hans Ullrich Bitsch, Ulrich Nether and project manager Sören Jungclaus.

5 HELIODISC DESIGN 5 It may sound bold to describe a luminaire as having a human character which is expressed by its radiation. Yet lighting visionaries ever more frequently talk about a luminaire with it s own personality. The TASK AREA luminaire presented in this brochure cannot fail to impress with its charisma and spirit. It takes the stage like a self-confident model, interacting with sophisticated and visionary architectural concepts. Thanks to its dynamic design, it casts a spell over any interior. In technical terms, HELIODISC is a multifunctional unit. With its four light sources, it provides a multitude of lighting variations.

7 HELIODISC AND IT S UNIQUE FEATURES 7 Like rubber: the stand and bracket are coated with white structural paint with a coarse finish. Transparent materials make the light flood. From inside to outside: the luminaire head made of visually high-quality polymethylacrylate is structured in the centre (micro-pyramidal optic), then satin-frosted, then completely transparent. The luminaire s fluid, curved shapes do away with rigidity and monotony. The transparent luminaire head makes the sophisticated technical features visible from the outside.

8 Joining forces Four different light sources in one single luminaire Light sources and their effect The innovative LED light source provides direct accent lighting for guidance. Its low energy consumption and long service life also make it an ideal tool for lighting the building at night. The metal halide lamp provides exceptionally brilliant light. Even subtle shades of colour can be recognised properly; it provides excellent luminous efficacy together with correspondingly good shadow detail. A dimmable version with QT-DE halogen incandescent lamp is also available. LED guidance HIT brilliant light HELIODISC uses a total of four different light sources. All of them can be switched on and off separately. Contemporary optics enable the selective direction of light across the interior. None of the lamps alone would be as effective as this ingenious combination. By perfectly matching them into a specific sequence, the benefits of the individual lamps are multiplied, eliminating any potential weaknesses.

9 HELIODISC LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY 9 The TCF compact fluorescent lamp provides extremely intensive light for direct illumination of the visual task. In the process, the quantity of light can be individually adjusted, as the TCF lamp can be dimmed between 1 % and 100 % as required. The MPO (micro-pyramidal optic) attached ensures precise glare control. The job of the circular T16 fluorescent lamp is to backlight the luminaire head. It uses indirect light to present the luminaire as a lighting object. Another merit of the circular lamp is optimisation of the luminance level to provide glare control (UGR 19) as specified in the EN12464 standard. It also shunts out the HIT lamp s ignition time. 10 Variable lighting scenes Abandoning anonymity light with a character When asked for their main needs in terms of lighting, office users first mention the possibility to individually influence the lighting situation. Being in a position to have one s own light which can easily and straightforwardly be matched to suit the respective task creates a sense of well-being. With HELIODISC, light abandons anonymity. The luminaire adjusts itself to the user s personal requirements using innovative control technology. A huge variety of lighting scenes can be created via numerous switching positions. DALI integration provides for extremely easy, intelligent control. Flexibility at work: A mix of direct and indirect light enhances the user s concentration and creates an optimum lighting balance for various tasks.

14 TASK AREA Focussing the light TASK AREA concepts are based on the grid used for the axially oriented design of buildings. At the same time, this innovative lighting concept is geared towards the users specific lighting requirements, focussing the light onto the visual task area. Illuminance levels for the surrounding area may be reduced. This opens freedom to provide multi-dimensional lighting, which, according to studies, enhances people s sense of well-being. In terms of efficiency and economy, too, the arrangement of luminaires according to EN12464 opens up interesting perspectives. Individual TASK AREA concept If a (double) workstation is defined as an independent TASK AREA, the lighting scene can be set to fully meet personal needs. The HELIODISC arranged in this way can be matched o meet the office users individual requirements. Each HELIODISC is fitted with a wealth of technical lighting features ensuring that up to six conventional linear luminaires can be replaced by one single HELIODISC luminaire. The luminaire designed for use in TASK AREA concepts meets all requirements to perfectly illuminate two adjacent workstations in line with all technical lighting quality requirements when implemented in an individual TASK AREA concept and in a large-scale strip concept. TASK AREA strip concept Extending the TASK AREA to comprise several workstations increases flexibility. Within a TASK AREA strip illumintaed by HELIODISC, the desks can be arranged freely.

16 Control and system integration HELIODISC is available in three different control system versions. In the basic version, each of the four lamps can be separately switched on/off. The version fitted with SENSCONTROL is significantly more convenient to use. The high-performance sensor monitors both people present in the room and ambient brightness. Data are processed in two separate channels, one for direct and one for indirect light, and intelligently matched with the user s control commands. This creates a fully automatic lighting sequence, which perfectly matches all four lamps installed in HELIODISC the DALIswitchable HIT lamp is blended with the DALI-dimmable fluorescent lamp, enhancing the lamps properties ideally, always depending on the lighting scenes required by the user, and ambient factors. HELIODSIC designed for system integration uses the DALI standard as the common communication platform. Each DALI luminaire is individually and clearly addressable or dimmable for fluorescent light sources. This ensures that it can be assigned specific functions and tasks by higher-level building management systems.
