The control gear is housed in a trackbox. This model is designed for use with cool-beam reflector lamps. The new SOLAR generation SOLAR II, made of high-quality die-cast aluminium, is an advanced development in design and lighting technology of the SOLAR/SOLARTRON spotlight range, which has been successful for over a decade (photo left). 9 SOLAR II DESIGNS 9 The bigger brother, SOLAR II M, is designed for lamps particularly recommended for retail and presentation applications. Used in conjunction with the various reflector optics and a wide range of accessories such as filters, lenses and glare-reduction tools, QR 111 and QT 12 low-voltage lamps and 35 W and 70 W metal halide lamps, to always provide the right light in shops and stores. SOLAR II L, with an external diameter of 154 mm at the luminaire head, is particularly suited for use in areas with high-ceilings such as showrooms, shopping centres, exhibition halls and large car showrooms. In these locations, where high luminous flux is needed, the powerful spotlight can display its strengths to the full when fitted with 70 W metal halide lamps or the new generation of small SDW-TG highpressure sodium vapour lamps rated up to 100 W. The high-quality die-cast aluminium housing creates an exciting interplay between hightech hardware and soft lines, with the ultimate compact design giving the spotlight its lightness. The spotlight body design ensures optimum heat balance in the luminaire. In addition, the AirFlowProtection System, developed using the latest technology from the field of fluid mechanics, results in effective air exchange with the surroundings. Heat generated inside is drawn directly outside through convection holes incorporated in the elegantly curved design of the spotlight. This increases the operating reliability of the heat sensitive electronic ballasts, and also extends the service life of the lamps significantly. Hot Spot really cool The high-tech features are hidden in the detail. The new AFPS concept with its convection holes elegantly streamlined into the design ensures optimum heat exchange. The graphic shows the air flow lines and the path through the spotlight housing. The greater the red component, the warmer the air.

Dynamic lighting scenes with SOLAR II Today s shopping experience is based on varied, lighting scens that constantly shift the ambience for a shop, brand or product by selectively controlling changes in the intensity, colour and direction of light (Active Light). SOLAR II M with DALI adapter and LV halogen lamps can be integrated easily in digital lighting management systems via a newly developed DALI track. Its control gear can communicate via the DALI control line with every individual spotlight up to 64 spotlights per DALI group and selectively adjust the light level with continuous dimming control. Not only can one play with the brightness to great dramatic effect, but it is also possible to choreograph lighting scenes using colour filters in SOLAR II spotlights. A further benefit: Since all SOLAR II M DALI spotlights are individually addressable and allow flexible assignment, changes can be made quickly and simply to suit modified room layouts.

This is why all four optics have been designed so that interchangeable reflectors that can be fitted and removed again without any tools whatsoever.

16 Encore! Encore! Encore! SOLAR II can do even more thanks to a wide range of accessories Convenient handling, for instance when replacing reflectors, lamps and attachments, was a core issue when developing SOLAR II. This is why all four optics have been designed so that interchangeable reflectors that can be fitted and removed again without any tools whatsoever. Spring clips hold these reflectors in the rigid front ring, which in turn is fixed onto the spotlight housing by a spring catch. Filtered light for improved lighting quality Protective glass panels, colour and IR/UVA filters, lenses and honeycomb louvres from the comprehensive range of SOLAR II accessories are inserted in a retaining device in the front ring. These are fitted by releasing the spring clips from front ring and reflector, and then placing the filters, lenses or glass covers in the front ring. This ensures that the attachment fits flush in the luminaire housing so that it does not detract from the overall appearance of SOLAR II. A two-piece antiglare hood is also available. Its ring fitting is inserted in the front ring like the other attachments, so that the hood itself can be attached using a snap-fit device. In order to reduce fading of light-sensitive exhibits in particular in display windows and museums UVA reduction filters are recommended for artificial lighting. The following factors determine the degree of fading: Sensitivity of the illuminated object Illuminance level on the object Spectral composition of the light Period of illumination The sensitivity of a material or discoloration is graded on a scale of 1 to 8 in DIN standard , where grade 8 means very high light fastness. The permitted exposure time approximately doubles for each higher light fastness grade. Since any artificial light exhibits a weaker fading effect than daylight at the same illuminance level, the safe exposure time is extended compared with unfiltered daylight by the factors given below. We recommend fitting combined IR/UVA blocking filters when using halogen and metal halide lamps for illumination in order to reduce discoloration, embrittlement and deformation of heat-sensitive exhibits, in particular in display windows and museums. Even when using lamps fitted with UV filters by the manufacturer, the combined filters should still be employed for extremely light-sensitive exhibits. The combination of IR and UVA absorption has been chosen in order to suppress directly the catalytic effect of the UVA radiation emitted by these lamps. These filters are generally not necessary when spotlights and luminaires are fitted with halogen lamps having cool-beam reflectors (QR-CBC lamps). Applications include the illumination of animal-based products or items containing protein, such as foodstuffs, leather goods and furs, the lighting of art works particularly those using natural dyes and paints and the illumination of highquality microelectronics.
