2 Light measurement: The TS-11 Luminance Photometer fully complies with CIE recommendations for road tunnel lighting control. Typically it is mounted at a tunnel approach road, and aligned to the tunnel s entrance portal. It continuously measures the average luminance within a 2º angle over a standard range of - 6,5 cd/m2. (Other ranges available on request) The luminance data is converted to a 4-2mA output and transmitted to a host controller for ON/OFF switching of luminaries in the tunnel entrance threshold zone. Light measurement detector: Luminance levels are determined by means of a metal/glass encased silicon diode photocell. The cell is practically temperature independent, the correction being less than +/-1º within 5ºC from the 25ºC calibration temperature. The receptor is perfectly linear within the measuring range and its response to light is virtually instantaneous. Optical filters are used to provide measurements of luminance to the required standard human visible spectral response. 3 Siting of TS-11: To avoid interference in readings caused by road or car debris, the sensor should be mounted at a height of about 4 metres. Upon various factors e.g., average traffic speed, vehicle driver stopping sight distance etc. a mounting distance of the photometer is generally accepted at 12-2 metres from the tunnel entrance. 4 Lighting control: The Mayer Light Switching Controller is simple to programme for ON/OFF switching of up to eight stages of luminaries. Up to eight optically coupled relay switching stages can be set independently to progressively switch on/off stages of luminaires in accordance with changes in luminance levels monitored by photometer installed at the tunnel s exterior approach road. 5 Stage switching relay contacts are volt free, normally open and rated at 24V 6 amp. Cable connection is made via a gland to screw terminals and the recommended cable to use is armour coated BELDON TYPE 8771 (or its equivalent) with conductor resistance of less than 1 ohms/km. The controller is contained within a housing of mild steel protected to IP66 Standard and designed for wall mounting within an interior control room. An alternative housing is available where installation is required recessed into a road tunnel instead of control room. The cabinet front opening panel is hinged and incorporates a viewing window.
