1 Falling Flakes Stocking Skill Level: Beginner Designed By Rachael Gander Sewn By Rachael Gander Use the quilt-as-you-go method to create this festive stocking. This stocking is fast and fun to make. Fabrics Needed Exterior fabric Exterior fabric Lining fabric Materials Needed Pellon TP971F Fusible Thermolam Plus Ribbon for hanging loop ½ yard 2 fat quarters ½ yard ½ yard One 6 piece Tools Needed Sewing machine and related supplies Rotary cutter and related supplies
2 Assembly Step 1. Print pattern pieces found on pages 6 through 8. Check gauge. Align and tape the pieces together. Cut out the stocking pattern. Step 2. Cutting instructions. Cut one 15 x 20 rectangle of exterior fabric for back. Cut seven 5 x 15 rectangle of exterior fabrics for front. Cut two 15 x 20 rectangles of batting. Step 3. Pin one rectangle of batting to the wrong side of the 15 x 20 rectangle of exterior fabric. Quilt as desired. Set aside. Step 4. Trim the seven 5 x 15 rectangles of exterior fabric as shown in photo at right. Note measurements in photo. Step 5. Place the wrong side of the first piece on the remaining 15 x 20 rectangle of batting as shown. Pin to hold. Quilt as desired. Falling Flakes Stocking Page 2 of 8
3 Step 6. Place the second trimmed piece right sides together with the first piece, alternating narrow and wide ends as shown in photo. Align raw edges. Stitch using a ¼ seam allowance. Step 7. Press seam towards second piece. Quilt as desired. Step 8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until all seven pieces are sewn and quilted. Step 9. To assemble the exterior, place the stocking pattern on the wrong side of the front exterior. Trace around the pattern. Falling Flakes Stocking Page 3 of 8
4 Step 10. Place the exterior back and front right sides together and pin. Cut along the top edge of the stocking through all layers. Step 11. Stitch around the stocking on the drawn line. Step 12. Cut away excess. Clip the seams along the curves. Step 13. Turn right side out. Step 14. Fold the lining fabric in half, right sides together. Step 15. Trace the stocking pattern onto the lining fabric. Pin around the seam lines. Step 16. Cut along the top edge of the stocking through all layers. Step 17. Stitch around the stocking on the drawn line, leaving an opening for turning. Step 18. Cut away excess. Clip the seams along the curves. Falling Flakes Stocking Page 4 of 8
5 Step 19. Fold the ribbon in half. Pin to the right side of the exterior stocking. Step 20. Place stocking exterior inside the stocking lining with right sides together. Align stocking opening at the side seams. Pin around the opening. Step 21. Stitch using a ½ seam allowance. Step 22. Within the seam allowance, zig zag over the ribbon to reinforce. Step 23. Turn right side out through the opening in the lining. Step 24. Stitch opening closed. Step 25. Push lining down inside the exterior. Falling Flakes Stocking Page 5 of 8
