1 Volume XXXV Number 7 Page 1 September 2015 September Program Andi Perejda has been quilting for more than 20 years. She has won numerous awards for her work, and is a master quilt judge for NQA. Her workshop is "Circle of Illusion". If you're planning to attend, you have prep work. A picture, supply list, and instructions for the prep are on the Guild website. Thayone September Puzzler How many words can you make using the words "quilters guild?" Restrictions: No proper names or plural forms of words are allowed. Do not use the following words: quilt, quilter, quilters, or guild. Rules: Make a list of all the words you can make using only the letters in "quilters guild." Bring your list to the September meeting and turn it in to Betsy for a chance to win a fat quarter! Our Mission Statement Orange County Quilters Guild is one of Southern California's oldest quilt guilds. The Guild is a non-profit organization formed to promote cooperation and the exchange of ideas among those interested in or engaged in quilting; to encourage and maintain high standards of design and technique in quilting; to instruct members in methods and techniques of creative quilting; and to inspire personal achievement.

2 2 Greetings Quilters! And now a word from our President. Well, how about that heat? UGH! I think it almost melted us at our August meeting, but in spite of it all, we had a great turn-out and a wonderful program! Larry and Mindy Gonzalez brought their amazing products to sell, but what was really terrific was Larry s lecture and slide presentation. He talked to us about preserving and caring for fabrics, old and new, and about how to clean them without causing them harm. Who knew that Grandma s cedar hope chest could be an enemy to a precious heirloom gown or a quilt? And who knew that Larry and Mindy s products could often rescue those damaged items from disaster? I think everyone who was there at the meeting learned something new and useful, and we re all taking another look at how we will store and care for our fabric and keepsakes from now on! Thank you, Thayone, for arranging the program for us. Speaking of programs, I think we are all really looking forward to having Andi Perejda as our Guest Lecturer and Workshop Leader this month! Have you all seen her Circle of Illusion quilt? Check it out on our website under Workshops, or visit Andi s own website for more tantalizing examples of her work! If that doesn t inspire you to try something different, I don t know what will. Andi is a very accomplished quilter in every way. She has won many awards for her work, which ranges from very traditional styles to art styles. She is known for her hand-quilting and applique skills, but she is interested in everything about quilting. She s also a highly-respected Master Quilt Judge. I can t wait to meet her, and I hope you will all try to come to our meeting on Tuesday and take her workshop the following day. We are very honored (and lucky) to have her! As summer draws to a close, I know we are all thinking ahead to Fall and Winter holidays and what they will bring. Many of us are going to be working on quilts to use as gifts or as decorations for our own homes. I hope you will all bring your work in to Sew and Tell as your projects are completed so that we can all share in the fun! It s very inspiring to see what everyone makes, and I think it never hurts to get new ideas from our friends. And don t forget, we will have a Quilt Show in 2017, so keep making those quilts now and plan to display them at our show then. Sew well and be well, My Friends! Betsy

I got nine completed quilt tops back at the August meeting for kids. Three of them were made from start to finish by generous members and they were absolutely adorable. I also got three cute tops turned in from members. Thank you so much. I m trying to quilt at least ten quilts a month of varied sizes, although I was only able to get seven quilted and bound. Several of you gals are really coming to the table with quilting help, hand sewing and piecing so that s making up for the slack. Please note that you don t need to have a long arm to help with the quilting. Many of these kids quilts are sized such that they can be quickly pin basted and quilted on a domestic machine using a walking foot and just plain stitch-in-the-ditch. Several of the gals are doing just that too and the quilts are very cute. Be brave and just try it. You gals that help me (you know who you are) you ROCK!!!! The kids are going to be so happy. Thanks for sharing your time and talent! P.S. I will be leading this effort through March of 2016 and then it s time for another leader. While it s a bit of work, just doing your best is what it s all about. Think about it. Is this your gift??? Happy Quilting, Pam Gayle Philanthropy/Quilts for Kids
