3 Party with Patrick/March 2014 Which Came First? An optional machine embroidery appliqué design to help in making this project is available at under Party with Patrick embroideries! Instructions 1. Refer to the cutting and piecing page for cutting instructions. 2. Trace the templates onto the paper side of your fusible adhesive leaving approximately ½ between tracings. Trace the dashed stitching and placement lines also, if desired. 3. Roughly cut the templates from the adhesive just outside of the traced line. 4. Place the adhesive templates onto the wrong side of their corresponding appliqué fabrics and fuse in place according to manufacturer s instructions. 5. Neatly cut the appliqués from the fabrics on the traced template lines. 6. Peel the paper backing from the appliqués and arrange them on the background piece. Fuse appliqués into place. 7. Transfer the dashed stitching lines for the chick s tail, legs and beak to the right side of the fabric with a non-permanent pen or pencil, if desired. You can use a light table or daylit window. 8. Place the Sulky Tear-Easy stabilizer behind the block and satin stitch the raw edges of the appliqués, using Sulky Premium 40 wt rayon thread. Using a straight stitch or triple stitch, stitch chick s beak, tail and legs on marked line. Embroider chick s eyes now or wait till quilt is finished to add beads to quilt for eyes. French knots also work well. Remove the stabilizer after stitching. 9. Piece the block, as shown on the cutting and piecing page. 10. Sandwich batting between top and backing with wrong sides of fabrics against batting.quilt as desired. I used a straight stitch, in matching thread, around each appliqué s satin stitching and next to binding. I stitched a large X in each border piece, start stitching 1/4 away from outside edge and sew diagonally to opposite corner. 11. Bind as usual, using 2¼ strips cut from the binding fabric. Visit

4 Cutting All seams are stitched at ¼. 1. From the blue fabric, cut two 5½ x 5½ squares for appliqué background. 2. From the yellow fabric, cut two 5½ x 5½" squares for appliqué background and one 2½ x 2½" square for border. 3. From the purple fabric, cut two 2½ x 40 strips for binding and cut two 2½ x 5½" rectangles for border. 4. From the green fabric cut two 2½ x 5½" rectangles for border. 7 Bunny Bait INGREDIENTS 1 bag microwave popcorn, popped 6 oz. white almond bark 1 bag Easter M&Ms Desired quantities of: pretzel sticks, broken in half peanuts (optional) pastel colored sprinkles 1. In a large bowl, mix the popcorn, pretzels and M&Ms. 2. Heat the almond bark in the microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring after each time, until melted and smooth. 3. Drizzle the candy coating over the popcorn mixture and stir thoroughly to coat. 4. Spread out on a large piece of wax paper, top with a few sprinkles and let cool. 5.
