The materials chart above gives 3 twin size options, including one for the photographed quilt shown here. Each option is based on the finished width of the rows (2", 3" or 3 3 4"). Similar materials charts and examples for queen, throw, and crib sizes and 2 table runners follow on the following pages. The chart below gives dimensions for cutting patches A D by option size. By keeping the fabrics in the same order in row, print will form a column once the rows are joined. Column X prints are used at the beginning and end of row; column Y and Z prints alternate between the column X s. Follow the same general instructions for all sizes using the appropriate option column for your selected size. For batting dimensions, add 4" to 8" to the finished size of the quilt. 2Materials and Cutting The 75"x 87" twin quilt shown above uses option 2. See the Fabric Selection Tips box for helpful hints in choosing fabrics. Arrange the fabrics in the order to be sewn column X prints at the beginning and end, column Y and Z prints alternating in the middle. Refer to the cutting chart; using the dimensions in the option 2 column, cut the appropriate number of patch A s D s. For efficient use of fabric, cut the largest patches first. fabric selection tips Large scale prints work best in the larger patch sizes (option 2 or 3). Pre-cut 2½ strips can be used for the option 1 sizes. If you choose to use a stripe print, decide before cutting the patches whether you want the stripes to be all vertical or all horizontal. Make one section (first 4 rows) before cutting all of the patches. Be sure there is adequate contrast with fabrics in adjacent columns.

3Making the Quilt Top Keeping the fabric order the same and referring to the example diagram below, arrange patches into rows 1 4; there will be enough patches for an extra row 1.

Sew the patches into rows. Crease or lightly mark the patch centers at the bottom edge of A and D patch in row 1 and top edge of C patch in row 2. Matching creases (or patch centers) and row ends, sew the rows together. In the same manner, add a row 3 and a row 4 to complete a section. Repeat to make the appropriate number of sections (as indicated in the chart). Sew the sections together in the same way; add the extra row 1 to the row 4 of the final section. 4Quilting and Finishing Layer and baste together the backing, batting and quilt top. Refer to the quilting placement diagram; quilt wavy lines in the columns as shown. Quilt a straight line along the edge of column X as shown. Bind the quilt.
