2 Quilt by Tony Jacobson. Fat Quarter Friendly Intermediate Size Options Included Strippy Pyramids Combine colorful strips of fabric with a crisp white to make this cheery pyramid quilt. Use the handy Fons & Porter 60 Pyramids Ruler, or make your own triangle template. Size: 64" 79" Materials NOTE: Fabrics in the quilt shown are from the Ticklish collection by Me and My Sister for Moda Fabrics 18 fat quarters* assorted prints and solids in blue, purple, green, orange, and white 3¼ yards white solid Fons & Porter 60 Pyramids Ruler or template material 5 8 yard blue stripe for binding 5 yards backing fabric Twin-size quilt batting *fat quarter = 18" 20" Cutting Measurements include ¼" seam allowances. Border strips are exact length needed. You may want to make them longer to allow for piecing variations. If you are not using the Fons & Porter 60 Pyramids Ruler, make templates for A and B triangles from the patterns on page 5. From fat quarters, cut: Strips ranging in widths from 1¼" 2¼" for strip sets. From white solid, cut: 10 (5¾"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 90 A triangles, 6 B triangles, and 6 B triangles reversed. 8 (4½"-wide) strips. Piece strips to make 2 (4½" 71½") side outer borders and 2 (4½" 64½") top and bottom outer borders. 6 (2½"-wide) strips. Piece strips to make 2 (2½" 63½") side inner borders and 2 (2½" 52½") top and bottom inner borders. From blue stripe, cut: 8 (2¼"-wide) strips for binding. cutting triangles 1. Join assorted fat quarter strips randomly to make a strip set at least 6" wide (Strip Set Diagram). Make 30 strip sets. 2½" Strip Set Diagram 2. Make 6 Row In the same manner, join 7 strip set A triangles, 8 white A triangles, 1 strip set B triangle, and 1 strip set B triangle reversed to complete 1 Row 2. Make 6 Row 2. Quilt Assembly 1. Lay out rows as shown in Quilt Top Assembly Diagram. Join rows to complete quilt center. 2. Join border segments end to end to make one long strip. Quilt shown was quilted in the ditch in strip set triangles and middle border, and with meandering in white triangles (Quilting Diagram). 3. Queen-Size Queen Assembly Size (88" Diagram 98½") From white solid, cut: 21 (5¾"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 184 A triangles, 8 B triangles, and 8 B triangles reversed. 10 (4½"-wide) strips. Piece strips to make 2 (4½" 92½") side outer borders and 2 (4½" 88½") top and bottom outer borders. 9 (2½"-wide) strips. To cut pyramids (triangles), cut strips in desired width (for Strippy Pyramids cut strips 5¾" wide). 2. Referring to strip width numbers along lower section of Fons & Porter 60 Pyramids Ruler, find the line on the ruler that corresponds to the width of your strip. 3. Beginning at left end of fabric strip, place ruler atop strip, with line on ruler along bottom edge of fabric strip. Trim along left slanted edge of ruler (Photo A). 4. Cut along right slanted edge of ruler to cut one pyramid triangle. 5. To cut second pyramid triangle, rotate ruler so solid line is on top edge of strip and angled side of ruler is aligned with slanted edge of strip. Cut along slanted edge of ruler (Photo B). 6. Continue in this manner to cut required number of Pyramids (Photo C).
