2 challenging Northport Crossing PROJECT scrappy antique quilt that Marianne has long admired was the inspiration for this quilt. With a few changes, she made it fit her style. Marianne likes to make vintage-looking quilts using shirting and reproduction prints. 3 Cutting Measurements include ¼" seam allowances. From each fat quarter, cut: 1 (3 3 8"-wide) strip. From strip, cut 5 (3 3 8") squares. Cut squares in half diagonally in both directions to make 20 quarter-square triangles. 3 (2½"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 18 (2½") squares. From white shirting print, cut: 25 (2½"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 400 (2½") squares. From gold print, cut: 4 (9"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 80 (9" 2") rectangles. 2 (2½"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 30 (2½") B squares. From black print, cut: 3 (2½"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 40 (2½") squares. 1 (2"-wide) strip. From strip, cut 20 (2") squares. From black solid, cut: 4 (13¼"-wide) strips. From strips, cut 49 (13¼" 2½") sashing strips. 8 (2¼"-wide) strips for binding. block ssembly Block Unit Diagrams 1. Referring to Sew Easy: Quick Triangle-Squares on page 5, make 80 print triangle-squares using 2½" white shirting print squares and black print squares. 2. In the same manner, make 720 triangle-squares using remaining white shirting squares and assorted print squares. Referring to Sew Easy: Trimming Oversize Triangle-Squares on page 6, trim each triangle-square to 2". Sew Smart TM It takes time to trim the trianglesquares, but it s worth the extra effort. Your triangle-squares will be exact, and they will fit together perfectly. Marianne 3. Lay out 1 set of 6 matching triangle-squares, 1 set of 3 matching triangle-squares, 1 black Block Unit Diagrams triangle-square, and 5 matching quarter-square triangles as shown in Block Unit Diagrams. Join into rows; join rows to complete 1 block unit. Make 80 block units. NOTE: Marianne matched the triangle-squares and quartersquare triangles in some block units and made other block units scrappy. Refer to the photo on page 29 for color placement ideas. Join into diagonal rows; join rows, matching seams in center of block. Trim corners as shown to complete 1 block (Block Diagram). Make 20 blocks. The Fons & Porter Quarter Inch Seam Marker offers a neat way to mark accurate sewing lines for this method. 1. On wrong side of lighter square, place the Quarter Inch Seam Marker diagonally across the square, with the yellow center line positioned exactly at opposite corners. Mark stitching lines along both sides of the Quarter Inch Seam Marker (Photo ). 2. Place light square atop darker square, right sides facing; stitch along both marked sewing lines. 3.
