Notes from the Quilter I used two layers of batting for this quilt, a bottom layer of Pellon Legacy 80/20 blend, and a top layer of Hobb s Wool. For thread, I chose Superior So Fine! for the top of the machine, and Superior Bottom Line for the bobbin. I began by measuring the blocks and drawing the quilt top using Art and Stitch software. I printed an image of the quilt top, and then, working on a light box, I covered the image of the quilt top with another sheet of paper so I could sketch ideas for quilting designs. Once I decided on a final quilting design, I created the motifs to be quilted with the Pro Stitcher using Art and Stitch software. I prepared the quilt top by pressing well and trimming all stray threads, then loaded it on the Studio Frame. Using magnets and foam, I manipulated the quilt top fabric to get it square and flat. I did some stitching in the ditch using the Pro Stitcher mark feature, and stitched the outline of the quilting design using digitized Art and Stitch patterns and some ruler work. Next, I decided on the background fill motifs, and filled the background area with quilting. I roll the quilt back and forth on the takeup bar and backing bar while doing this work. I prepared pink polka dot binding, sewed it to the front of the quilt on my domestic machine, and stitched it down on the back by hand. My fingers are still sore!

The pink/peach unit centers create cohesion, while the assorted prints in the arcs provide variety and depth. Knowledge of foundation piecing (paper piecing) is required for this pattern.

To prepare piecing Templates A and B, trace on template plastic, including seam lines, grain lines, and match points. Cut out directly on outer lines.

Make small holes at match points using awl or large needle. Place templates on appropriate fabrics; mark around templates. Cut out fabric patches and transfer match points to wrong sides of each. Referring to Foundation Master and Cutting Instructions for patch placement, foundation piece 144 arcs total (Diagram I). Trim excess fabric and paper from edges along outer dashed lines. Do not remove foundation papers until instructed. B Make 144 total Diagram I Make 144 total Diagram II 2 Referring to Diagram II, sew A and B to arc, aligning match points, to make pieced square. Make 144 total. Remove foundation papers. Hint: If you have trouble removing foundation papers, lightly spray back of unit B A with water and allow to rest for 10 minutes before removing papers. Test first using lightest fabric to be sure water does not transfer foundation ink to fabrics. 3 Arrange and sew 4 rows of 4 pieced squares each as shown in Diagram III.
