1 The Postage Stamp Country Roads Quilt Guild January 2016 Kathryn s Klips Happy 2016 dear quilt guild friends. We are getting that winter blustery weather that gives us all the time indoors to do our favorite hobby, QUILT!!! We had a very well attended dinner in December with a brief business meeting. The committee did an amazing job, once again. The guild gifts included the handmade ornaments; three different color marking pencils and a small clear plastic 6 inch box (containing a focus fabric). The focus fabric is meant to be an inspiration for each of us to make a 9 inch (finished) block for a quilt we will make for one lucky guild member to keep. You pick the design and fabrics you wish to mix with the floral and make sure at least 2 square inches of the focus fabric is in your block. One of us will treasure the quilt creation. If you missed the December dinner and want to participate there are still some pieces of this fabric for you. Here is to a bountiful 2016 with much time to sew and quilt and learn from each other. I pray each one of our members are healthy and full of happiness this year. 2 December 2015 Meeting Minutes by Kathryn Our year end Christmas dinner began at 6 pm on December 10, Diane C sent the cooked and sliced ham, as promised, with her grandson (handsome and helpful) but was unable to attend herself, having had surgery that very day. Susan P, the Christmas party chair and with the help from other committee members, decorated tables with a Country Christmas theme. Each Mason jar was filled with lights and greenery with a greeting in different languages. The ugly duckling basket, contributed by Debbie S, contained fat quarters that guild members contributed. Each fat quarter was exchanged for a ticket to win the entire basket. Linda R was the winner of all of them! Laura S passed around a basket of papers for each to share a memory from their past to help guild members get to know one another better. We shared as we ate and then got to the business meeting. One rule was no dessert until you shared a memory of your past. The November meeting minutes were approved as was the November treasury report. Our secretary Jane was unable to attend due to a death in her family. Therefore, the names of those who motioned to accept and seconded are MIA at this writing. Once our feast came to an end; there was a candlelight song played and sung by the brave ones Silent Night. Karen facilitated the gift exchange with a Christmas story moving the gifts left, right and all around the circle. Once gifts were opened, each one shared what they had received. 4 Winter Drink Recipes From Betty: Spiced Tea 6 quarts of water 3-4 cups of sugar (I use the lesser amount) 1 or 2 tsp. whole cloves 1/2 stick of cinnamon 3 lemons (strain juice) 15 tea bags or 20 tsp. of instant tea Place spices in small spice bag. Heat the first four items to almost a boil; add strained lemon juice and tea. Bring to a boil and let stand a few minutes. Serve hot/warm or chill in refrigerator and serve over ice for iced tea. The tea recipe makes 35 cups. You can always half it if you don't want to make the whole amount. From Linda: Gliihwein or Mulled Wine 1 bottle of Red Wine Sachet of German mulled wine spices and 2 TBSP sugar Make your own mulled wine spice 2 TBSP sugar or sugar candy, ½ cinnamon stick, 3 cloves, 2 orange slices, 1 TBSP rum (optional) Heat all ingredients in pan almost to a boil; do NOT let it boil. Let stand min. It will knock your socks off.

Opening reception Sunday, December 13 5:30pm 7:30pm Organized by the International Quilt Study Center and Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska, this exhibition features a selection of historical and contemporary quilts chosen for their expressive qualities and sophisticated use of design elements. They include traditional quilts made to be used on beds, many of whose makers are no longer known; quilts from the Amish and from African-American traditions. There are also studio quilts from the beginning of the art quilt movement to the present day. There is even a ralli from Pakistan, an example from a rich, non-western quilting tradition.
