Learn more about the importance of these wonderful fabrics in Balinese culture, learn how expert dyers create their effects, and see examples of traditional sarongs and contemporary batiks used in wearable art, quilts and more. This trunk show is illustrated with fabrics, quilts and garments. Anyone that would like to join us for dinner in Clarkesville is welcome. Thanks to Linda Lloyd for housing June Colburn! As of printing, 8 spots are left for this class. June Colburn is a national speaker and has taught color theory for AQS participants and EXPO shows. Her classes always sell out and we at Mountain Laurel Quilters Guild anticipate this class will also sell out. June is bringing completed works that demonstrate color theory and kits for us to complete and take home. Come equipped to take pictures for your future reference. No sewing required. President's Message June Colburn Kits The kit includes between 50 and 60 separate fabric color swatches, an 8-page workbook, and a file in which participants can keep their finished pages for future reference. What a great luncheon we had! Our hostess team really did a great job, THANK YOU, Diane Turner, Judy Bratt, Ruth Spencer, Gail Routt and Terry Wright. We as a group are very BLESSED to have such great and talented ladies. 2 Minutes for Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild May 16, 2017 Members arrived to see a beautifully decorated room done in spring colors. Maryann Prue said a blessing before everyone enjoyed delicious foods prepared by everyone. Those wearing hats participated in the parade of hats. Winners were chosen by the ladies in attendance. Those who won baskets of quilting goodies were: Sissy Anderson, Mary Ann Ames, Silke Cliatt, Maryann Prue, Shirley Wilson, Shirley Trepte, Sharon Ruth, Judy Bratt, Sharon Mascagni, Gail Routt and Ruth Spencer. Many beautiful quilts were shown for show and tell and donation quilts. Maryann called the meeting to order and thanked Diane Turner, Judy Bratt, Ruth Spencer, Gail Routt and Terry Wright for decorating the room and organizing the hat parade and gift baskets. The minutes and treasurer s reports were approved as printed in the newsletter. Attendance 51 members and one new member Sharon Mascagni were present. Claire Hiscox won the president s gift. Basting Call Marge Striggow by Friday if you need quilts basted next month. Newsletter Gail Routt had the new rosters at the meeting, Gini will have those left and extras at future meetings. Gail asked for newsletter articles by Friday and requested they have newsletter in the subject line so she doesn t miss any. She read a very touching letter from Joan Briggs who lives in Florida and turns 82 on July 12. Joan made a donation for raffle tickets and newsletter mailing cost. She is a beloved former member who lives too far to join us. QOV Sharon Ruth reported on the presentation of 4 QOV quilts to veterans at the Veterans Jamboree last Saturday. Several guild members went with her. The quilts were so appreciated. Raffle Quilts Jane Threlkeld reported we sold $408 in raffle tickets for both quilts at the Airing of the Quilts in Franklin last Saturday. Kathy Lewis organized it and set up the booth, Kathy Ingmundson, Marge Striggow, LuAnn Luedtke and Bev Mannes helped, braving gusting rain at 3:30 in the afternoon. We need tri-fold cards for the next sales events Jane will get them printed. We need places to take the hummingbird quilt; Bev will look into the Dillard BBQ. The winner for the beautiful silk art raffle quilt was drawn Shirley Wilson is the very lucky winner! Workshops Janice Chiaffredo and Jane Threlkeld showed the sample of the circles in a square workshop project we will do Friday, May 26. Spaces for June Colburn s June 21st workshop are still available. A winner of the kit will be drawn from the early sign-up slips at the workshop. June Meeting Claire Hiscox spoke of the June Colburn program on June 20th and encouraged everyone to invite guests. It is free for members, $10 for each guest. UFO Challenge Sissy Anderson had number 6 drawn for the UFO project this month. Newbees will be making a water bottle carrier at their meeting at Maryann Prue s house on June 7. Bee Artful will work with Adele Steele to start a joint landscape quilt project at the June 13 meeting at 1st UMC Clarkesville. Bee Sharps will meet at Bethel Baptist in Tiger June 1. QOV workshop will be May 24 at Bethel Baptist Church in Tiger. Quiltfest will be in Birmingham June birmingham-quilters-guild-quiltfest-birmingham-alabama-june-2017.html Misty Mountain Show will be September in Blairsville. QuiltFest-2017 Copies of the Georgia Register were available. New Business There was a good bit of discussion about whether we should have a raffle quilt every year to help with program and workshop expenses. Maryann also asked whether we should arrange a third day at 1st UMC for extra meetings and got input from a few members. The board will meet in June to further discuss these items as well as changes to the bylaws and policy and procedures and present proposed changes for these documents at the June meeting. They will be published in the July newsletter and voted on in the July guild meeting. Members can phone or Maryann with their input on these issues before the board meeting. Sunshine Diane Erickson is in Emory for treatment after her bone marrow transplant. The meeting was adjourned at 1:50. 3 I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that sent cards, called and gave hugs and comfort to me and my family when my mom passed away! I've always heard that friends divide your sorrow and you truly prove it so! Mother visited the guild several times and was always so impressed with you all! Thanks again!
