1 NEEDLES AND THREAD OCTOBER 2018 Donna s Dewdrops! Well, it's another Quilt Show under our belts! I really enjoyed the show this year and hope you did too! I am amazed at all the talent in this and the nighttime guild! Beautiful job! Now, I have to get busy with all those panels I bought--such inspiration to turn these into quilts and wall hangings--guess I need lots of snow this winter to get them all done--wait--did I just say that?? I can't believe it is October already--time to get those Christmas gifts finished up--what is your favorite quilted gift to give? 3 NORTHLAND QUILTER S GUILD Minutes of September 6, 2018 General Meeting The meeting was called to order by Robin Musgrave in the absence of Donna Brattin, President. Robin welcomed members and asked if there were any visitors. There was one visitor. Membership: Nancy Bellis 68 members were present. There are currently 134 guild members. Nancy has twelve membership cards that have not been picked up. She has prepared a draft of a revised membership form and has made it available for input. The guild is working on forming mini groups for new members. Minutes/Treasurer's Report: The Treasurer s report and the minutes from the previous meeting were approved as written in the newsletter. Old Business: - Pat Peterson s grandsons and their dad are now setting up for each monthly meeting. The new mic stand was purchased and is now in use. New Business: None COMMITTEE REPORTS: Treasurer: Michele Midtbo Nothing was reported. Programs: Robin Musgrave Robin introduced today s program presented by our guild member, Jane Bromberg, who spoke on using photos as inspiration for quilts. October s speaker will be the Queen of Applique author and instructor Kathy Delaney. Publicity: Mary Rohrbeck Nothing to report. Historian: Jo Forsythe Nothing to report. Hospitality: Carol Barnes/Daphne McClure/Denise Dodd Members were thanked for bringing snacks. Library: Trudy Coogan - She has received the latest Missouri Star Block magazine. Memory Makers: Dolores Swenson - There are no quilts to baste this month. Miniatures/Silent Auction: Helen Tidics, Judy Mulvey, Rita Fenn - Members were thanked for their contributions. Two ribbons from last month s display judging had not been claimed. Helen asked who made the two quilts so she could give the person the ribbons. The person was identified. Newsletter: Mona Meyers Nothing was reported. Opportunity Quilt: Joann Borchelt We still have tickets to sell. Quilt Show volunteers for the Opportunity Quilt are still needed for a couple of times. 3

4 NORTHLAND QUILTER S GUILD Minutes of September 6, 2018 General Meeting, Page 2 Quilt Show: Joy Behrens and Trish Rogers We are in need of king-sized pillow cases for next year s show for the large quilts displayed. Anyone with specific responsibilities for this year s quilt show and who would like to do the same for the 2019 show, should let Trish know. The theme for our 2019 quilt show will be Hearts and Flowers Galore. Volunteers are still needed in several areas. A specific need is for trucks with drivers to transport items from storage to Salvation Army. Salvation Army will provide shuttle service both Friday and Saturday for guild members to/from offsite parking. Everyone is strongly encouraged to use this so there is parking available for show attenders. There are many new vendors this year which should add interest. All members are required to purchase show tickets. These can be purchased today or at the door on the day of the show. Quilted Blessings: Teddie Broughton Nothing was reported. Quilt Boutique: Celeste Wegner/Mary Ann Robker Lunch will be provided for all who are working show setup Wednesday. Volunteers for the boutique will be given a task list to provide direction. There will be no pre-sales in the boutique but everyone is welcome to view the items in advance. Celeste gave a preview of some of the items that will be on sale. Regional Quilt Festival: Roberta Waterfield Members were reminded to begin planning/work on miniatures for the Regional Quilt festival Retreat: Final payment is due today. Scrap Quilt: Jan Kramme Jan showed the completed scrap quilt. Members will be able to purchase tickets to win the scrap quilt in the December drawing. Tickets will sell for $1 each or 6 for $5. Sunshine & Shadows: Shirley Justus Nothing to report. Sewing Bee & Challenge Committee: Roberta Waterfield Sewing Bee and Challenge participants will meet September 27. Announcements: A thank you card was received from the family of Ruth Cave for our guild s memorial contribution. Sew and Share: Nine members showed finished quilt projects. The meeting was adjourned. Continue to bring me your completed tops and or quilts. I will accept any size. Thank you. Teddie Broughton QUILTED BLESSINGS October 25th is the last Sew Bee this year. Hope to see many of you there. I will also have the first project for next year's sew bee, it's an Easter wall hanging. Anyone wanting to make this can pick up the supply list at the October Sew Bee. This will also be the last time this year that Dave will be there to clean sewing machines and sharpen scissors for you. 6 2018 UPCOMING PROGRAMS: We are getting close to Halloween and costumes, so it is just fitting that our October speaker is looking for her Crown! We will have Kathy DeLaney with us and her topic is If I m the Queen of Appliqué, Where is My Crown? Coming up in November is a Trunk Show featuring art quilts from SAQA Studio Art Quilt Trunk Show titled Artful Expressions. Robbin Musgrave, Program Chair The Sewing Labs I am teaching the jelly roll rug class at the Sewing Labs. Many ladies have asked about it and now is your chance to find out how to make the rug. I will be teaching it on November 5, 12 and 19 from 1 to 4 pm. You may register through The Sewing Labs. I can answer more questions at our October meeting. Teddie Broughton 6
