Quilters' Sew-ciety was founded in 1977, and provides a means for quilters to exchange ideas, further the art of quilt making and promotes the joys of quilting. Also visit our Facebook page at December 3, 2018 Joint Meeting Minutes Rita Radil, President, welcomed everyone to the December meeting. She shared a few reminders for everyone: silence cell phones, wear your name badges, and membership dues are $35 ($1 if you forget your badge) and guests may attend meetings for $5 each meeting. Minutes: A motion was made to accept the November afternoon minutes by Kelly Rudich and seconded by Dawn Pruitt. Motion carried. A motion was made to accept the November evening minutes by Kathy Gaines and seconded by Norma Sherwood. Motion carried. Program: Circle of Friends singers was our entertainment. They sang Christmas songs and it was enjoyed by everyone attending. This group consisted of 7 people including our very own Ann Brenke. Gift Exchange: Eleven people participated in this towel exchange. Four people participated in the block exchange. Show and Tell: 14 quilts, 11 wall hangings, and 10 miscellaneous projects and approximately pillowcases. UFO: Jeanne Willson and Becky Mann were the winners of this drawing. Lotto blocks: The lotto blocks were won by Dawn Pruitt. Prize Drawings: Mary Severson and Crystal Monson Thank you: Thank you to Kathy McMullin and Marie Wilson for making arrangements and helping with the treats for the evening. 2 Education and Programs January 7: History and Art of Batik in Indonesia Pam Geerdes, Jamie Kouba and Carolyn Jensen: These QS members traveled to Java and Bali to learn the history and modern techniques used in the production of batik fabric. They will present slides of the process as well as travel photos from the islands they visited. For a special show and tell, members are encouraged to bring their favorite batik quilts. Susan Lommen and Jeanne Willson 2019 Program and Education Chairs Library News Thank you to everyone who supported the Quilters Sew-ciety Library by purchasing books and magazines at the December joint meeting. This support will result in some new books for the library in the next month or so. 3 2019 Quilt Show Announcements Announcements 1. Tonight, we are asking you to help determine the name of your 2019 quilt show by voting for one of the 8 suggested names. Ballots are being passed out. Place an X or check mark next to the name that you most like for our show name. Most of the name ideas that were submitted were inspired by this show's raffle quilt - "Under Celestial Stars." After you have marked your ballot, fold it in half and pass it to the end of your row and they will be collected. We will announce the winning show name at the January meeting and in the January newsletter. Thanks for your help on this. 2. WE NEED YOU. There are still 5 key show committees that do not have chairs. For the 2019 quilt show to take place, we need a full slate of committee chairs in place by the end of January when we will need to make a firm financial commitment to our quilt show site. Please consider helping out by chairing a committee or even co-chair a committee. The positions still open are: Hostesses Volunteer, Signage, Publicity, Quilt Registration, Refreshments. This was Gloria Bahr s last meeting as Program Coordinator in Thank you all for your patience and cooperation throughout the year. I have enjoyed the position and the programs and meeting our speakers has been a highlight in my life. Don't miss any of our programs in The program schedule is being arranged by your new Program Coordinator, Susan Lommen who will be assisted by the Program Coordinator Elect., Jeanne Willson. They have a great schedule planned for the coming year. Thanks to all of you who participated in the UFO Challenge and the Gift Exchange. Isn't it great to complete a long forgotten project? See you all next year. Kathy Gaines is collecting strips 2 1/2" or narrower for the Sit and Sew at the state show. ( Quilting For Others) She is also collecting 10" squares for the Heart String blocks. She is hoping to continue the project even after the state show to supply the Jeremiah Program with enough quilts for the facility when it opens in late She will provide a laundry basket and sign near the door every month to collect things. Quilt of Valor: Since the SE Minnesota Quilters Group began in April 2018, we have presented 10 quilts. We have 5 pending and 1 cancellation. A huge thank you to the long arm quilters who have volunteered their time and talent to long arm quilt for us. If you have announcements to post on the Power Point display, please contact Judy Plank. It will be put on the next meeting s posting. Classified Ads/Notices for Members For $3.75, members can submit up to 20 words for a classified ad/ notice. This will have the same deadline as everything else for the newsletter by the 15 th of each month.
