Claire Hiscox President's Message Thanks to all who participated in the Silent Auction. Special thanks to those who donated things, those who purchased items, and to the ladies who were my runners, Linda Hynninen, Claire Hiscox, Sherrie Cramer, and Janice Santoro. Let s not forget our treasurer Kathy Lewis. It was a great success and you all made it possible. THANK YOU THANK YOU. Mission Statement The purpose of the guild is to promote and perpetuate the art of quilting. The work of the guild is designed to benefit and educate those interested in preserving, continuing and advancing this art. The guild is a Not-for-Profit Educational organization. Workshop News for March 23, 2018 Digital Sew Day!! In March, we are doing something a little different for a workshop. You are asked to sign up to work at home for the day. BULLOCH HALL QUILT GUILD Is Hosting The National Park Service Centennial Quilt Show Travelling Exhibition Great American Cover-Up Quilt Show March 9-18, 2018 Contact: Holly Anderson quiltholly@bellsouth.net Bee Artful are carpooling on March 13; Contact Hilary Johnson Our website is very up-to-date with lots of information about meetings, programs, workshops and bees. 2 Minutes for Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild February 20, 2018 President MaryAnn Prue opened the first meeting in the new community hall at 12:30 pm. Many beautiful quilts were displayed and talked about at Show and Tell along with several donation quilts and Quilts of Valor. Bee Artful displayed the landscape quilts they had made last year, which will be on show at the March Expo. Minutes and Treasurer s Reports: Approved as printed. Membership: Gini Cawood reported 52 members present. There were no door prizes today because of the silent auction but Marge Striggow won the President s door prize. Basting: Marge Striggow said there will be basting before next month s meeting. Please call her if you have a quilt that needs to be basted. Books and Tools: $5.00 was collected from members who did not have their name tags. Achievement: Janice Santoro asked that members please fill out the sheet listing all the quilts they show that day. Donation Quilt: Jane Threlkeld thanked everyone who has signed up to help at the Expo March A list was made available for members to check their shifts. Jane is collecting members $10 donations and ticket stubs. If you haven t picked up your packet, please see her. Sunshine: Peggy Saum had sent a sympathy card to Claire Hiscox. Please let her know if a card needs to be sent to either guild members or a sewing buddy. Programs: Claire Hiscox thanked everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers at the passing of her mother. At the March meeting, Frances Arnold from the Cotton Patch Quilters will be presenting a trunk show entitled Viewing the World through Quilt Colored Glasses. Workshops: Friday, Silke Cliatt will be teaching us how to make beautiful pins. March will be our first Digital Sew Day and in April Hilary Johnson will be showing us 2 blocks and incorporating them into something special. Old Business: Diane Turner presented the report of the Audit Committee. No problems were found and their certification will be kept with today s minutes. A quilter on the east coast of North Carolina had sent information on her long arm quilting services. If interested in sending your quilts to NC, see MaryAnn Prue. New Business: The Executive Board met and are proposing some minor changes to the By-Laws and Policies and Procedures. These changes will be printed in this month s newsletter and questions will be taken at the March meeting. MaryAnn will be on vacation next month so Diane Turner will run the meeting. You may also call one of these ladies with your questions, and/or changes. Bee Buzziness: Bee Creative will be meeting the 1 st Wednesday of the month at Mary Ann Prue s home. Bee Artful are going on a road trip to the Bulloch Hall Quilt Show in Roswell Tuesday March 13. If anyone from the guild would like to go, please contact Hilary Johnson. They are carpooling. Bee Sharps will be on a retreat Feb 26 Mar 2. Today s Program: Our annual silent auction bought out lots of unwanted items that other members were only too happy to purchase. 3 Treasurer s Report February, 2018 FIBER ARTS in the VALLEY At Sautee Nacoochee Center Friday, May 4 & Saturday, May 5, 2018 All day event with food, music and Llamas. There will be workshops to attend. We also need helpers and Vendors. Applications on website: FOR SALE Janome 6600P I have many extra bobbins, the special presser that come standard with the machine, besides the regular walking foot I have two others. One is a ¼ inch walking foot, also a stitch in the ditch walking foot. Everyone at the May meeting will get to vote. Prizes: 1st, 2nd & 3rd place Size Requirements: No smaller than 18 square and no larger than 28 square. (They don t have to be square but they do need to be somewhere between those sizes.) Members can submit as many entries as they wish. You can use your submission from the guild s show at the Georgia Botanical Garden in January, If your entry goes to the Botanical Garden, you also need to mount a hanging sleeve and rod (with your name on it).
