35 Celebrating YEARS WSC UPDATES JULY 4TH CLUB CLOSURE Wheaton Sport Center will be closing at 6pm on Thursday, July 3. WSC will be CLOSED on Friday, July 4th.

Children who pass the swim test are invited to stay under the care of our Aquatics Lifeguard Staff. Swim test is offered during Supervised Swim hours.

BACK TO SCHOOL BASH Member Appreciation Event Tuesday, August 19 Members come and enjoy hot dogs, ice cream sundaes, bouncy house, balloon artist, face painting, & business partner expo!

3 35 Celebrating YEARS WSC STAFF Remembers BY CHRISTINE LITAVSKY, AUTHOR AND LONG TIME WSC MEMBER HASSAN DALLAL Talking to Hassan Dallal is a privilege; his life journey is one everyone should hear. His fascinating background makes it hard to focus only on his Wheaton Sport Center career, but I will do that here and hope for future opportunities to write more about him. Hassan has been working at WSC since 1992, when --although he was employed full-time with United Airlines -- he began working parttime at WSC at the request of Rob Elliot, one of the four original owners of the club. Hassan s main responsibility was working on the air structure that housed the tennis courts. 21 years later, Hassan is retired from United but continues to work at WSC. He is still part time, working Mondays and Tuesdays, and he is still keeping the air structures and other facilities in order. He loves what he does, because he has a gift that allows me to take almost anything apart and put it back together. That s a gift many of us wish for, certainly. Hassan has seen many changes at the club during his tenure but points to the tennis department as the most obvious one. It has gotten bigger and better. The four original tennis courts have multiplied into 14 tennis courts. Upgraded clay courts have been installed and the original air structure has been moved and improved. A tennis player as well as a craftsman, Hassan appreciates these upgrades and plays regularly at the club. Hassan has many memories of WSC, but his favorite is wearing a WSC shirt in Maui at a farmer s market and attracting the attention of two vacationers who were also from Wheaton another original owner, Ray Benson and his wife. Hassan often wears his WSC wardrobe: I ve always been proud to work here. Why does he stay? He answered without hesitation: I like the people I work for. NANCY ALLEN I ve always seen Nancy around the club, as we joined the same year. Although I ve never known her personally I ve always been impressed by her ready smile and calm demeanor. Nancy was hired as a Personal Trainer in 1997, and remains a Personal Trainer to this day. When she started personal training she worked part time. After three months, she was promoted to Fitness Supervisor and began working full-time. Those were busy years she was still doing personal training as well as her supervisory role and she had two children to boot. After five years, she stepped down from the administration part of her job for part time hours once again. This arrangement seems to be working well. The part-time, flexible hours involved in personal training are perfect for Nancy s life with two busy teenagers. She loves personal training and is excited about the growth she s seen in the department. Personal training is booming, as is group training. Nancy is especially impressed with the amounts of young athletes who come in for personal training. Whether they want to improve their vertical for volleyball or their upper body strength to make the basketball team, they re committed to improving their skills on their own time. One of Nancy s favorite things about her job is the Midwest Indoor Tri-Classic Series (MITCS) that WSC hosts each year. She s been involved in registration and coordination of this ever-growing event since 1998, and she loves greeting returning athletes year after year. I have a strange knack for remembering people, she admits. Why does she stay? She s impressed with the way the club has changed to keep up with the industry. She also loves the people, her clients and her coworkers. I feel very blessed to be working here.

Summer drop-off is $15 per child (children after 2nd child are free) with maximum of 3 hours for day for this service. Service will be available Monday-Friday beginning June 16.
