1 June 2016 Volume 47, No. 6 Doyon,Limited Doyon Operations Manager Named Volunteer of the Year Doyon, Limited Operations Manager Jamie Marunde, of Northway Alaska, has been named a 2016 First Lady Volunteer of the Year Award recipient. More than 90 Alaskans from around the state were nominated for the awards, and Marunde was one of 13 recipients. Winners were honored during a luncheon at the Governor s House on May 4. The volunteer work that Alaskans do, day in and day out, often goes unheralded. These are not the kind of people who wait for things to change, wish for conditions to be different, or get involved simply seeking recognition, said First Lady Donna Walker. Highlighting the commitment and character of these fine Alaskans shows our appreciation for their sacrifices and encourages others to help build up their communities through giving of their time and talents. Marunde, s passion for volunteering started at a young age. In high school, she ran the youth center and community youth newspaper. In college, she volunteered as president of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) dorms and was an original member of the group that founded the existing UAA recycling and sustainability programs. Marunde has served as a role model for young people in her village by living a healthy lifestyle, being committed to her culture and language, and pursuing a higher education. She received an AA degree while still in high school and has since obtained her BA and MBA. Jamie Marunde (center) with Alaska Gov. Bill Walker and First Lady Donna Walker at the Volunteer of the Year Award reception. For the past few years, Marunde has been actively involved in traditional land use issues, and is currently developing a traditional land use plan for the Upper Tanana area. continued on page 2 2 Message to Shareholders 3 Shareholder of the Year 3 Stock Will Cash Prizes 4 Doyon Foundation Language Grants 5 DRFS Camp Orie 5 Military Appreciation Book 6 In the Community 6 Address Updates 6 Golf Classic 7 Class of Shareholder Spotlight Nominations 8 Calendar 8 Condolences doyon.com Doyon, Limited

2 Board of Directors Walter Wally Carlo Chair PJ Simon, Jr. Vice Chair Miranda Wright Treasurer Christopher Simon Secretary Jennifer Fate Erica Frankson Jerry Isaac Georgianna Lincoln Esther M. McCarty Victor Nicholas Brian Ridley Sonta Roach Orie G. Williams President & CEO Aaron M. Schutt Communications Doyon, Limited 1 Doyon Place, Suite 300 Fairbanks, Alaska Message to Shareholders Dear Shareholders, Alaska s economy continues to be the headline in the news cycles. Despite the grim reality of oil prices throughout Doyon s fiscal year 2016, our financial performance has been relatively strong in the first two quarters. However, due to lower levels of activity on the North Slope, we expect the last two quarters of the fiscal year to be weaker. Regardless of the outlook, we expect to finish our fiscal year 2016 with financial performance second in company history only to Shareholder employment for fiscal year 2016 also is not as strong as it was in We have had fewer shareholder employees on the North Slope due to significantly less work for several of our oil field services companies. However, we ve been able to keep a large number of people working while other North Slope contractors have had large layoffs. There are bright prospects on the horizon for Doyon. We will drill a well, Toghotthele #1, in the Nenana Basin this summer. The experts tell us that the new well has a one in two chance of finding a commercial natural gas resource and a one in four chance for oil. If Toghotthele #1 finds a commercial resource, the estimate for recoverable oil is 70 million barrels, and 200 billion cubic feet for natural gas, which could mean plenty of gas for Fairbanks. This past winter, we completed two new miles of road and the drilling pad for the well. We also moved Camp Orie, formerly Camp Denali, to the site located outside of Nenana. Very soon, the Arctic Fox drill rig will be barged across the Nenana River to the drill pad. We expect to begin drilling in the month of June, so keep your fingers crossed. Finally, in May, we celebrated the many Doyon shareholders who graduated from high school or college this year. I want to personally congratulate them for their hard work and dedication, and I look forward to their continued success. I had the privilege of speaking at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) commencement ceremony. I was able to see our second Chief, Trimble Gilbert, and the Hannah Paul Solomon Shareholder of the Year recipient, Elizabeth Fleagle, receive honorary doctorates from UAF. Both are well deserving of the recognition. Thank you for your continued support of Doyon and its employees. Sincerely, Aaron M. Schutt President and CEO Phone Fax Toll-Free Follow us on social media for up-to-date Doyon, Limited news and events. Volunteer of the Year continued from page 1 Marunde is also working with her mother to build and distribute Upper Tanana Athabascan language books to schools and communities in her region. Through the commitment of her time and resources, Marunde has given the community of Northway and her region a voice on critical issues facing the state. First Lady Volunteer of the Year Awards recognize Alaskans who have displayed an extraordinary personal commitment to volunteer service, and have made a major impact on their community or state. June 2016 First Lady Bella Hammond began the annual recognition in Doyon is thrilled that Jamie has been recognized by Gov. Walker and the First Lady as a Volunteer of the Year, said Doyon COO Julie Morman. Her commitment to traditional Athabascan values, her quiet tenacity in representing her village, and her willingness to be a role model for the younger generation in education and cultural values is tremendous. Jamie is a true leader and a great asset to Doyon.

4 Doyon, Limited Foundation Awards $50,000 in Language Revitalization Grants Doyon Foundation will award $50,000 in language revitalization grants this spring as part of its Our Language grant program. The Foundation received 17 proposals and, after careful review and evaluation by the selection committee, nine proposals have been fully or partially funded. Koyukuk: Four community elders will instruct a class for adult language learners, with the aim to speak in full sentences. The adults will be immersed in the language, and will themselves become instructors by passing the language they learn on to young people. The 10 ancestral languages of the Doyon region are all severely to critically endangered, and the Our Language grant program was developed to support the revitalization of these languages. Doyon, Limited originally established the language grant program in The Foundation s language revitalization program now administers the program. We are deeply grateful for Doyon, Limited s support of both the Our Language grant program, as well as our language revitalization program, said Doris Miller, Foundation executive director. The 2016 Our Language grants will help to fund the following efforts: Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC): ANHC will offer eight language immersion sessions in Koyukon and Gwich in. Experienced instructors will work with eight apprentices. The goal of these sessions is to develop a cohort of new language instructors. Anvik: Deg Xinag Digitization Project. The Anvik Tribal Council will promote language revitalization by digitizing Deg Xinag language recordings collected over 40-plus years. These recordings represent stories, language lessons, history, knowledge and culture from elders that have passed on. These items will be converted into digital-format DVDs and MP4s to reach younger generations. Eagle: This project involves working with fluent speakers to integrate language into key cultural activities, including hunting, fishing, sewing, drum and canoe making, with a goal to provide context and greater meaning for learners. Eagle is incorporating this project into a larger initiative supported by CIRI Foundation s Journey to What Matters, which focuses on revitalizing traditional arts and crafts. Huslia: Denaakk e Hustlers Project. In Huslia this summer, youth workers will develop basic Denaakk e lessons with instructor Susan Paskvan. Young people will collect lessons and other materials from elders and share them with other language-learners by posting online. We live in a changing world and we have to bridge the gap between elders and youth. This project is one way that we can bring young and old together around language, wrote Tribal Administrator Shandara Swatling. Nenana: This project will integrate language learning into summer camp activities. Language topics will include familial terms, greetings, names for different plants, animals, days of the week, tools and materials. Students will also learn Athabascan songs and dances. The lessons will be shared using the Where Are Your Keys method, and documented for future learners. Nikolai: Denak i Nots whtolnich. This project will gather elders together to speak Denak i, and document the stories, songs, knowledge and insights they share. Northway: This project will support weekly language instruction and materials for grades K-5 at the Walter Northway School. Instructor Lorraine Titus will teach language through songs and dances of the Northway Tribe. This project is just a part of the bigger effort to support continued teaching of the Northway language, said Tribal Administrator Nichol Rallo. Rampart: The communities of Rampart and Tanana will collaborate on a language course at the Rampart Community Hall. The goal is for learners to be able to introduce themselves in Denaakk e, and learn common greetings and traditional place names. Each learner will also make a book of nouns and verbs. Learners will be able to use the content in different combinations to create new and complete sentences. Each of the projects also include plans to document language through the use of audio and video recordings. Watch the Foundation website, and Facebook page, for updates on the projects as they progress. It is encouraging to see the range of proposals and the various activities planned to revitalize ancestral languages across the region, said Allan Hayton, Foundation language revitalization program director. Doyon Foundation commends everyone for their commitment to the future of our languages, and encourages continued planning, and creative thinking for how we will continue our languages into the future. For more information on the grants or Doyon Foundation s language revitalization program, please visit or contact Allan Hayton, Doyon Foundation language revitalization program director, at haytona@doyon.com or June 2016

5 Shareholder News Subsidiary Update: DRFS Moves Camp Orie to Nenana Doyon Remote Facilities & Services (DRFS), LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Doyon, Limited, recently moved a brand new camp from Fairbanks to Nenana in preparation for a drilling project in the Nenana Basin this summer. Doyon Camp Orie, named in honor of Doyon s former president and current board member, Orie G. Williams of Nenana, was moved to its new location in March Newly constructed in early 2016, Doyon Camp Orie will make Nenana its first operating location. DRFS began with just one camp in 2012, Doyon Camp Sackett on 12-Acre Pad near Oliktok Point in Kuparuk. Today, Doyon Camp Orie makes the eighth camp in the DRFS fleet. The move from Fairbanks to Nenana began on March 17 and ended with all units in Nenana on March 19. The camp consists of 21 skid-mounted units, ranging from x32 to x60. All together, the camp consists of 23 double occupancy rooms, 16 single occupancy rooms, office and conference space, a recreational exercise room, and residential and commercial utilities. Doyon Camp Orie will serve as a temporary home to the crews for the Toghotthele #1 project, an oil and gas exploration effort in the Nenana Basin. We are all very excited to have Doyon Camp Orie on the Toghotthele #1 project this summer season, said Mariah Pitka-Jenkins, DRFS senior vice president and general manager. Aerial shot of Camp Orie at the Nenana pad. Doyon Camp Orie is our most efficient, modern camp with a list of amenities you wouldn t typically find in a remote mobile facility. The creativity and innovation that went into the design and build of Doyon Camp Orie was a huge success. A lot of time and planning goes into moving the units over the ice in the winter months and our team did an amazing job with the safe and timely mobilization of Doyon Camp Orie.
