The program will begin in January This program is a follow up on a 3-D seismic program completed in late 2014 covering a portion of the central Nenana basin, and the recent announcement of new exploration drilling planned there for summer Crews will begin mobilizing in early January 2016 for this 160-mile program, which will continue into April The effort is part of Doyon s long-term exploration program in this 1,200-square-mile frontier basin in Interior Alaska, located west of Fairbanks and parallel to the Parks Highway, rail, electrical transmission lines and the planned natural gas pipeline route from the North Slope to Cook Inlet. 7 Shareholder News Subsidiary News: Doyon Utilities Tanya Kaquatosh Leads Regulatory Affairs Department This year, Doyon Utilities (DU) celebrates its seventh anniversary of providing regulated utility services to military customers throughout Alaska at Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely and Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER). DU is committed to providing safe, reliable and healthy utility services to the installations it serves. In doing so, DU continually looks for opportunities to better serve its customers through improved organizational operations and efficiencies. Utilizing its existing workforce to the best of its abilities and strengths is key to this effort. Recently DU established an internal regulatory affairs department. This was done to facilitate the regulatory relationship between customers and the utility as well as to promote an alignment of interests as the company moves forward. Dan Gavora, president and CEO of Doyon Utilities, had only to look internally to the finance department to select the perfect candidate, Tanya Kaquatosh, for this critically important position. I was very pleased that we were able to fill this position internally, Gavora said. Tanya s educational background, prior work history as well as her determination to succeed made selecting her an easy choice. I am very confident in her ability to excel in this new and tremendously important role. Kaquatosh will lead the new department as the director of regulatory affairs. Daniel Heckman, the regulatory affairs associate, will continue to provide support to regulatory affairs, in addition to assuming contract compliance responsibilities. Kaquatosh is a seasoned professional with utility accounting and business operations experience. She holds a bachelor s degree in economics from Stanford University and an MBA from Arizona State University. She is also a graduate of the 2014 Doyon Leadership Training program. Since June 2012, Kaquatosh has worked as a financial specialist at DU in the finance department. Prior to DU, she worked at Doyon, Limited Tanya Kaquatosh as the executive assistant to the president/ceo for over four years. Kaquatosh grew up in Interior Alaska and is active in the community. Currently, she serves on the Alaska Native Education Parent Advisory Committee as vice-chair and volunteers for educational programming in the school district. She is the daughter of Barbara Beatus and the late Norman Beatus of Hughes. Her maternal grandparents are Johnson Moses and the late Bertha Moses of Allakaket, and her paternal grandparents are Henry and Sophie Beatus of Hughes. Her siblings are Jody Moses, Joyce Oldman, Jessica Wilson and Cherise Beatus. Kaquatosh resides in Fairbanks with her husband, Steve, and their daughter, Skye. Art contest winners continued from page 1 the holiday theme, highlighted Native values, and creatively incorporated the Doyon logo. The selection committee described her depiction of the aurora borealis over the mountains as especially beautiful. The third-place winner, Kaylon Madros, age 15, of Nulato, Alaska, won a gift card for her drawing of a Christmas tree surrounded by high mountains and the rising sun. Her piece stood out due to its strikingly bright colors, abstract lines and incredible detail. The holiday card/calendars featuring Schick s artwork will arrive in shareholder mailboxes in early December, so be sure to keep an eye out for yours. Also, watch Doyon s social media channels for postings of all the entries as the holidays approach. Again, Doyon thanks all the young shareholders who participated in the holiday artwork contest and looks forward to seeing more wonderful pieces of work in the 2016 holiday artwork contest! His parents are Curt Kokrine, Sr. and Beverly Kokrine. His grandparents are Billy and Flora Demoski from Tanana, Alaska and the late Franklin Simon and Lillian Simon from Huslia, Alaska. He carries the name David after Flora s brother of Crossjacket, Alaska, who was a song composer and singer. Kokrine has a passion for racing and doesn t limit himself to just foot races. He has raced the Junior North American dog race in the last several years with dogs from his uncle Marvin Kokrine. Earlier this spring Kokrine placed second in the Junior North American Races. I love it. It was always fun. It kind of soothes the soul, Kokrine said. My grandfathers did that a lot. They always dog mushed and did hard work. It takes hard work to run the dogs. Thanks to my Uncle Marvin. Kokrine has been on the Effie Kokrine Charter School cross country running team for the past two years. When Kokrine was a freshman, the school had enough runners to place first in the regional race. This fall, however, there were only three runners on the team but this small group of dedicated runners was not discouraged by their limited team size. It changed. We had a full team. Now we have three runners, said Kokrine, who ran in the Alaska state meet this fall. Running is fun. Competing is fun actually. I didn t want my school to miss. I was representing Effie. I have a pair of snowshoes to train in all winter. Through his hard work and dedication to the sport, Kokrine received an invitation to represent Alaska on the Pacific Conference Cross Country Team at the 16th annual track David Kokrine will represent Alaska in the DownUnder Games in Australia in summer and field meet at the DownUnder games in Australia next summer. During the event, 300 high school athletes from across the world will compete at the event, each an ambassador for their state. This shows us that perseverance can give us opportunities that we never imagined, said Kokrine s mom, Beverly. Kokrine said he is excited to go to Australia and he is hoping the weather will be cool, since it will be Australia s winter. His family is helping him prepare for the trip of a lifetime in June For information on ways to support Kokrine, please Beverly Kokrine at bevkokrine@gmail.com. Christmas for Kids continued from page 6 personally chosen for each child based on age and gender. Once the shopping is done, the gifts are wrapped by volunteers and sent to the various communities. Last year, gifts for the communities of Koyukuk, Shageluk, Nikolai, Kaltag, Huslia, Hughes and Holy Cross were provided, with the help of many community and business donations, including freight services. Gifts were also given to children in the Fairbanks Native Association (FNA) GRAF Adolescent Treatment Facility, and FNA Women and Children s Center. 9 Shareholder News HR/Shareholder Outreach Update: Get Up, Move, Do Something with Daaga Awards Doyon in the Community Doyon, Limited was involved with several important community events in November. KRFF Fundraiser Proposals due January 8 Get up, move, do something! This is the meaning of the Athabascan word Daaga and the spirit of the Doyon, Limited Daaga Awards, which provide annual grants to programs and projects that promote healthy, clean and sober Alaska Native communities. Proposals for the 2016 Daaga Awards will be accepted until the deadline of Friday, January 8, 2016 by 5 p.m. Applications are available at Since 1990, the Daaga Awards have provided more than $220,000 in funding to Interior Native individuals and organizations to help promote drug- and alcohol-free communities and programs. The proposed projects should support the values of the Daaga Awards, including contribution to the healing that lies within the local people, utilize the strength of traditional values, and encourage programs that integrate spiritual, social and economic needs of the communities. The number of awards are limited, and proposals may be granted up to $3,000 per funding period. The awarded amount is dependent on the number of proposals received and the need of the program as described in the application and supporting materials. Applicants may not always receive the full $3,000. For this reason, Daaga should be considered supplemental funding and not be the only support sought when funding a program. For more information, please contact shareholder outreach at (toll-free), (in Fairbanks) or malamuted@doyon.com. Doyon Sr. VP of Administration Geri Simon and VP of Communications Charlene Ostbloom were live on the air at the KRFF studio for two hours on November 5.
