1 There s No I in Team Our PYP inquiry into how groups collaborate led us to further examine our own structure within the Gingko Group. We started our chat by asking the group Are we a team? Isla Frankie Charlie Levi R Lachlan Hunter Hero Hero ScarleP Yes, because we re in a bigger class and we can do tricky stuff. We work as a team because we have morning tea together and sit on the mat together. We all do the same things - like siesta and ea@ng lunch and morning tea together. We stay together and don t leave the person. So [when] you work together to build something, you don t need to run away from your partner. Just stay in your team. You help each other - like you do teamwork. If it keeps falling over you just need someone to help you. If you have three partners and you re playing in the blocks and someone doesn t want to play with you that s not a team. And that s a bit hurlul. Working as a team is you can t open heavy doors and you ask someone to help you and they help you and you say thank you. What would you do if they said no? Sad and len out. Maybe just get some other people? You have to stay together and if someone doesn t want to play with you, you can just ask someone else. Do we have a leader? Charlie Yes, a captain. To make sure the rest of the group is doing a good job. Hugo The Captain is so responsible because he has to do all of the things. All he has to do things all of They have to work in a team every day because teachers have to be at the front. Teagan I like being at the front of the line because I can see everyone. Frankie Because then you can see a lot at the front because you like being in front. ScarleP Because you can see where you are. It makes you feel good, basically you can see that way and that way. Why do you like being the captain? Oscar That means I can ring the bell and collect the books because it makes me get happy. Lachlan Yes I like to pick up the name tags at cause some people hided the name tags [laughs]. Hero I like collec@ng the name tags cause some people that are my friends hide the name tags. It s fun and it makes me happy. Gwen Yes because I get to collect the books and choose someone to open the door. Levi M When I m the captain I love choosing a s@cker. Frankie Why don t the teachers get a turn at captain? Miss Keir Well we are sort of the co-captains, we help the Captain. 2 Happy Birthday Levi! I m 5! I got four Lego sets, a Lightning McQueen Lego and a dinosaur Lego and a boat Lego and a lava truck and the volcano shoots out lava and the truck actually drills it. There s a blue clear diamond in the lava. My party was all about, the themed thing, Hot Wheels! And I got some Hot Wheels cars from my Dad, a lot of them, he gave me like a hundred or a thousand! We had pizza and cake and fruit. Dear Levi, Happy Birthday! We re so glad your day was filled with much fun and excitement, not to men@on a visit from the police! Wishing you a wonderful birthday. 3 Police Academy On Monday police officers Jo and Luke visited the ELC to meet with the Gingko Group Hugo: Oscar: Charlie: Lachlan: Frankie: What do police do? Policemen help everyone when there s bad guys and you put them in jail. You work on the computers and you have walkie-talkies. You save people. How about you launch a police boat? The police have boats, cars, dogs, helicopters. We have dogs that have really good smell. Do you have dogs with perfume? No, but they can smell things really well. Jordan: Why do police have guns? To protect us and to protect you. Officer Luke: We only use it in a really, really bad situa@on. The role of the police is to protect life and property. Levi R: You work with the fire engine. Levi M: What s your favourite thing about being a policeman? Helping people. Levi R: Do you have police boats? Officer Luke: Yes, they operate out of Williamstown. This is the equipment we walk around in every day. We have guns, our spray which is like a liple squirter, a baton, handcuffs. levi R: Do you have glasses? Officer Luke: Yes, but just to make us look cool.

4 Excitedly our cauliflowers were ready for harvest this week so we put them to good use Home-Grown Cauliflower Soup 2 cauliflowers 1 leek 1 litre chicken stock Cream Roughly chop cauliflower and leek. Heat chicken stock to boiling, add cauliflower and leek and cook unfl sog and tender. Puree and add cream. Enjoy!

5 Happy Birthday Levi! I m 5! My Mummy bought all of the decoraions and the toys and the party bags so when someone s going home from my party I give them a party bag. I m having a Lightning McQueen Party at Jump Centre. That morning when it was my birthday I got a big set of Lightning McQueen and the police car. Last night I had sushi and a Lightning McQueen cake and McQueen s winning the race! Dear Levi Happy Birthday! Wishing you the most wonderful year as a big 5 year old.
